The Mangrove Alliance for Climate (MAC) at the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt India has joined the Mangrove Alliance for Climate (MAC) at the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties at Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt.

India is among the first five countries to join the MAC, including Australia, Japan, Spain, and Sri Lanka.

PM Kisan Samman Sammelan 2022 New Delhi Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the PM Kisan Samman Sammelan 2022 at Indian Agricultural Research Institute in New Delhi.

The first-ever meet of DLSAs is being organized by National Legal Services Authority.

There is a total of 676 DLSAs in the country & in the meeting, they will discuss the ways to bring homogeneity and synchronization across DLSAs.

 

Chabahar Day conference Mumbai Union Minister Sarbanand Sonowal has inaugurated the Chabahar Day conference.

Objective – To mark the Chabahar Link to International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) Connecting Central Asian Markets.

National Security Strategies Conference New Delhi Amit Shah has inaugurated a two-day National Security Strategies (NSS) Conference in New Delhi.

Objective – ‘To ensure a safe and secure nation by strengthening all aspects of the national security mechanism.’

The Conference is being attended by 600 officers from across the country, physically and virtually.

4th India-Philippines Strategic Dialogue Manila In this both the countries discussed Defence and Security Cooperation & also exchanged views on Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)-related matters.
44th National Conference of Labour Ministers and Secretaries of all states and Union Territories Andhra Pradesh PM Narendra Modi addressed the 44th National Conference of Labour Ministers and Secretaries of all states and UT via video conferencing.

The two-day conference is being organized by the Union Ministry of Labour & Employment at TirupAati, Andhra Pradesh.

Accordingly, the 44th session of the National Labour Conference has been named Vision Shramev Jayate @2047.

65th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference Canada An Indian Parliamentary delegation led by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will be attending the 65th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPA) at Halifax in Canada.

Permanent Indus Commission conference New Delhi The purpose of the meeting is to discuss over the issue of advance flood information and the annual report of the Permanent Commission of Indus Waters (PCIW).

Also, discussed about the 1,000 MW Pakal Dul under Article IX of the Indus Waters Treaty, 48 MW Lower Kalnai and 624 MW Kiru project hydropower projects being built by India on the west-flowing rivers.

National Education Ministers’ Conference Gujarat Gujarat is the state which is to host the two-day national Education Ministers Conference.

This meeting will be attended by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan with other UT and State ministers.

This meeting will focus on the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020 with digital projects like National Digital Education Architecture and the National Educational Technology Forum, among others.

‘ASEAN-India Foreign Ministers’ meeting India India will host Special ASEAN-India Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (SAIFMM) on the 16th and 17th June to mark the 30th anniversary of its relations with the 10-nation grouping.

It will be the first meeting hosted by India in New Delhi and will be accompanied by 12th Edition of Delhi Dialogue.

It will be attended by External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and ASEAN’s Ministers. S Jaishankar and his Singaporean counterpart Vivian Balakrishnan will co-chair the meeting.

Ninth Summit of the Americas 2022 Los Angeles, United States The Ninth Summit of the Americas 2022 was held from June 6 to June 10, 2022. Theme of Summit:  “Building a Sustainable, Resilient, and Equitable Future”.

Summit of the Americas 2022 was skipped by the President of Mexico, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador. The president of Honduras, Xiomara Castro, also boycotted the summit. Similarly, the President of Bolivia, President of Guatemala, Prime Minister of Saint Vincent did not attend the summit.

12th WTO Ministerial conference Geneva, Switzerland The 12th WTO Ministerial Conference took place on 12-15 June 2022.

The Conference will be co-hosted by Kazakhstan and chaired by Mr Timur Suleimenov, Deputy Chief of Staff of Kazakhstan’s President.

Indian delegation will be led by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal. India is a founding member of the WTO since 1 January 1995 and a member of GATT since 8 July 1948.

First national conference of chief secretaries Himachal Pradesh PM Narendra Modi will chair the first national conference of chief secretaries at Dharamshala to prepare a common development agenda for higher economic growth, ahead of the Governing Council Meeting of NITI Aayog later in the year.

Three themes have been identified for detailed deliberations in the conference: implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP), urban governance, and crop diversification and achieving self-sufficiency in oilseeds, pulses and other agri-commodities. 

8th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians Egypt The 8th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians has been started in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt to address climate change.

The two-day conference is being jointly organized by the House of Representatives and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

Nagaland’s first woman elected as Member of Parliament to Rajya Sabha, S. Phangon Konyak is representing India at the Conference.

First Physical Joint Consultative Commission Meeting India & Bangladesh India & Bangladesh have the first Physical Joint Consultative Commission Meeting in New Delhi.

The meeting has co-chaired by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and his Bangladeshi counterpart AK Abdul Momen.

It will review the entire meeting of bilateral relations, including cooperation in the wake of Covid19, border security, trade and investment, connectivity, energy, water resources, development partnership and regional-multilateral issues.

 

14th BRICS Summit Beijing China’s President Xi Jinping will host the 14th BRICS Summit in Beijing on June 23.

Theme: Foster High Quality BRICS Partnership, Usher in a New Era for Global Development.

Semicon India Conference 2022 Bengaluru PM Narendra Modi inaugurated 1st Semicon India Conference 2022 at Bengaluru, aiming to visualize as the launchpad to start India’s ambition of becoming the global semiconductor hub and nurturing the chip design and manufacturing ecosystem.

The government also formed an advisory committee for Semicon India to drive Rs 72,000-crore project.

Theme: ‘Catalyzing India’s Semiconductor Ecosystem’.

Swasthya Chintan Shivir- Health Summit Kevadiya, Gujarat Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya has inaugurated a three-day Swasthya Chintan Shivir (Health Summit) at Kevadiya in Gujarat.

This summit was organized as a part of the 14th Convention of the Central Council of Health and Family Welfare (CCHFW).

Conference of Cluster-Based Business Organizations (CBBOs) Jaipur Union Minister, Kailash Choudhary has inaugurated Conference of Cluster-Based Business Organizations (CBBOs) and Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) under Scheme of Formation and Promotion of 10,000 FPOs at Birla Auditorium in Jaipur.

The government of India had formulated a new Scheme titled ‘Formation and Promotion of 10,000 Farmer Produce Organizations (FPOs)’ which was formally launched by the Prime Minister of India on 29.02.2020 at Chitrakoot (Uttar Pradesh) with a budgetary provision of Rs. 6865 crores.

COP15 summit on combating desertification Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire The 15th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP15) of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) was held from 9th May to 20th May 2022.

COP 15 took place in Abidjan, a city in Cote d’Ivoire. Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav represented India at COP 15 summit.

Drought, land restoration, land rights, gender equality, and youth empowerment are the focus areas of COP 15.

Theme of COP 15: Land. Life. Legacy: From scarcity to prosperity.

2nd Global COVID-19 Virtual Summit co-hosted by the United States, Belize, Germany, Indonesia, and Senegal. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has participated in the Second Global COVID-19 Virtual Summit on the invitation of the President of the USA, Joseph R. Biden.

Theme of the summit: Preventing Pandemic Fatigue and Prioritizing Preparedness.

Intersolar Europe 2022 Munich, Germany Bhagwant Khuba, Minister of State, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy delivered a keynote address at the investment promotion event on “India’s Solar Energy Market” at Intersolar Europe 2022 held at Messe München exhibition centre, Munich, Germany.

The event was organized by the Indo-German Energy Forum (IGEF). Intersolar Europe 2022, the world’s leading exhibition for the solar industry, took place from 11th May to 13th May 2022. 

“SCO’s Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure” anti-terror meet Hosted by India India hosted the meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s (SCO’s)-Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS) in New Delhi from May 16th to 19th.

The Security Advisers of the National Security Councils of India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Pakistan and Uzbekistan participated in the meeting.

India has taken the chairmanship of the Council of Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure of SCO last year for a period of one year.

7th annual meeting of Board of Governors of NDB hosted and chaired by India in virtual mode Finance Minister and India’s Governor for the New Development Bank (NDB) Nirmala Sitharaman chaired the 7th Annual Meeting of Board of Governors of NDB through video-conferencing in New Delhi.

Due to ongoing pandemic, this Annual Meeting of NDB which was hosted and chaired by India this year was organized in virtual mode.

Theme 2022: “NDB: Optimising Development Impact”.

BRICS Foreign Ministers Meeting hosted by China External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on May 19, 2022, participated in a virtual meeting of the BRICS Foreign Ministers.

The BRICS Ministers of Foreign Affairs meeting was hosted by China on 19th May 2022 via video conference. Since, the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, this is the first meeting of BRICS Foreign Ministers.

This meeting was hosted by Wang Yi, China’s State Councilor and Foreign Minister.

In January 2022, the BRICS Chairmanship was handed over to China by India.

Theme of BRICS 2022: ‘Foster High-Quality BRICS Partnership Usher in a New Era for Global Development’

North East Research Conclave 2022 IIT-Guwahati Union Minister for Education and Skill Development Dharmendra Pradhan launched the North East Research Conclave (NERC) 2022 at IIT Guwahati.

It was held between 20th and 22nd May 2022 jointly with the Science, Technology, and Climate Change Department and the Department of Education, Government of Assam at the IIT Guwahati campus.

The inauguration of the conclave was followed by the signing of a MoU between IIT Guwahati and the Government of Assam to establish ‘The Assam Advanced Health Innovation Institute (AAHII).

World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Annual Meeting Davos, Switzerland Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will lead Indian delegation at World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland from May 22 to 26.

The annual meet of the WEF, a Geneva-based international organisation working towards an array of global issues, will take place in a physical form for the first time since January 2020.

Theme: “Working Together, Restoring Trust”

75th World Health Assembly Geneva, Switzerland 75th edition of World Health Assembly is being held in Geneva, Switzerland from 22nd to 28th May 2022. This is the first in-person Health Assembly since the COVID-19 pandemic began.

Minister of Health Mansukh Mandaviya addressed at the 75th World Health Assembly in Geneva. He emphasized the need of creating a robust global supply chain to provide fair access to vaccines and medicines.

Theme of this year’s health assembly: “Health for peace, peace for health”.

QUAD Leaders’ Summit 2022 held in Tokyo, Japan The 2022 Quad summit started in Tokyo, Japan on 24th May 2022. The leaders of the Quad countries (Australia, India, Japan, and the United States) will participate.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, US President Joe Biden, Japan PM Fumio Kishida, and newly-elected Australian PM Antony Albanese participated in the Summit. This is the second in-person Quad Summit.

QUAD Fellowship was launched at the Summit. It is a first-of-its-kind scholarship program that aims to promote people-to-people linkages between the four members of Quad.

First-ever National Women Legislators Conference Thiruvananthapuram The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated the National Women Legislators’ Conference-2022 in Thiruvananthapuram on May 26, 2022. The Conference is being hosted by the Kerala Legislative Assembly as part of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’.
7th BRICS Culture Ministers’ Meeting hosted by the People’s Republic of China Minister of State for Culture and External Affairs Smt Meenakshi Lekhi attended the 7th BRICS Culture Ministers’ Meeting via video conference, which was hosted by the People’s Republic of China and attended by all BRICS Member Nations.

The Ministers approved the BRICS Action Plan 2022-2026, which aims to expand cultural cooperation and execute the 2015 BRICS Cultural Cooperation Agreement.

3rd Global Organic Expo 2022 New Delhi 3rd Global Organic Expo 2022 is poised to be a major platform for Organic Producers, Aggregators, Processors, Value Chain Integrators, and the Industry Partners by offering Global level conference, with an apt theme “Profitability for Humanity”. 3rd Global Organic Expo 2022 is organized by ShesPro and managed by iCONEX.

4th edition of India Boat & Marine Show (IBMS) Bolgatty Palace in Kochi in Kerala IBMS is India’s only and most influential Boat and Marine industry related exhibition. The event is organised by Kochi-based Cruz Expo.

The focus of the IBMS expo 2022 was the requirements for MSME in the marine and boating sector.

20th Meeting of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) Pakke tiger reserve in Arunachal Pradesh The 20th NTCA was chaired by Union Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change Bhupender Yadav. The first-ever NTCA meeting was held in Arunachal Pradesh, outside of the National Capital.

The NTCA has released a Forest Fire Audit Protocol for Tiger Reserves, which will assist tiger reserve managers in assessing their fire preparation and managing forest fires throughout their whole life cycle.

20th India-France Joint Staff talks Paris The 20th edition of the India-France Joint Staff talks focused on new initiatives within the framework of the existing bilateral defence cooperation mechanism, as well as improving current defence engagements.

The two-day talks took place in a nice, warm, and courteous setting in Paris. The 20th edition of Joint Talks between India and France ended with the goal of actively enhancing defence cooperation.

4th US-India 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue Washington DC Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken and Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III welcomed Ministers of Defense Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Dr S. Jaishankar to Washington, D.C. for the fourth US-India 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue.

 

1st Incredible India International Conference Mumbai Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways and AYUSH, has announced the First Conference of Incredible India International Cruise Conference 2022 will be held on May 14-15, 2022 organised by the Mumbai Port Authority.

He also launched the event website www. iiicc2022. in, logo and mascot named ‘Captain Cruzo’. The iconic sea-cruise terminal coming up at BPX Indira Dock Mumbai International Cruise Terminal is expected to be commissioned by 2024.

21st World Congress of Accountants 2022 India Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) will host 21st World Congress of Accountants (WCOA) for the first time in 118 years. The event will be held from November 18 to 21 after outbidding France. The event will be held at Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. The theme for 2022 would be `Building Trust Enabling Sustainability’.
India’s 1st Global Ayush Investment and Innovation Summit 2022 Gandhinagar, Gujarat Government of India & Ministry of AYUSH organised its first Global Ayush Investment and Innovation Summit (GAIIS) 2022 held at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar, Gujarat from 20 April 2022 to 22 April 2022.

The summit witnessed Letter of Intents (LoIs) worth more than Rs 9000 crore. The summit was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The event witnessed participation of industry leaders, academicians, and scholars to promote traditional medicines, and systems. Ministry of Ayush has received LoI from 28 companies to invest Rs. 6000 crores

5th BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) Summit hosted in virtual mode by Sri Lanka Narendra Modi participated in and addressed the 5th BIMSTEC Summit hosted in virtual mode by Sri Lanka, the chair of BIMSTEC from September 2018 to March 2022.

2022 marks the 25th year of the establishment of BIMSTEC. At the conclusion of the Summit, Thailand took over as chair nation of BIMSTEC.

G20 Heads of State and Government Summit 2022 Bali, Indonesia G20 Bali Summit 2022 is the 17th meeting of G20 Heads of State and Government Summit which is scheduled to take place in Bali, Indonesia from November 15-16, 2022 under the Presidency of Indonesia with the overall theme of “Recover Together Recover Stronger”.

India will assume the G20 presidency on December 1, 2022 from Indonesia, and will convene the G20 Leaders Summit for the first time in India in 2023.

19th India-US Military Cooperation Group Meeting Agra, Uttar Pradesh The discussion was co-chaired by Chief of Integrated Defence Staff to the Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee (CISC) Air Marshal BR Krishna from Indian side and his US counterpart Stephen D Sklenka.

According to the Defence Ministry, the India-US military cooperation group was established to advance defence collaboration between the two nations through regular meetings at the strategic and operational levels between the Headquarters of the Integrated Defence Staff and the US Indo-Pacific Command.

The India-US MCG is a forum set up to advance defence cooperation between the two nations by frequent strategic and operational consultations involving Headquarters, the Integrated Defence Staff, and the US Indo-Pacific Command.

Fifth session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-5.2) held in hybrid form in Nairobi, Kenya held on February 28 – March 2, 2022 on the theme ‘Strengthening Actions for Nature to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals’. It was held in Nairobi, Kenya.

UNEA-5.2 was followed by a Special Session of the UNEA, UNEP@50, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the creation of UNEP in 1972. It was also held online and in person in Nairobi on March 3-4, 2022 under the overall theme of ‘Strengthening UNEP for the implementation of the environmental dimension of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development’.

Heads of State, Ministers of environment and other representatives from 175 nations endorsed a historic resolution titled ‘End Plastic Pollution: Towards an internationally legally binding instrument’ to end plastic pollution and forge an international legally binding agreement by 2024. Special Session UNEP@50 was attended by Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav.

2022 Mobile World Congress Barcelona, Spain The Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA) has organised the 2022 Mobile World Congress (MWC), which took place in Barcelona, Spain from 28 February to 3 March.

The MWC-22 focused on increasing the global connectivity of the 5G network and economic recovery.

Global Mobile Economy Report expects 5G connections globally to reach 1 billion in 2022 by 5G adoption. Increase in the 5G network connection will increase the global GDP by 5% up to $5 trillion in 2025.

Global telecom industry to invest $600 billion till 2025 in the global mobile industry’s capital expenditure (CAPEX) and 85% of it will be spent on 5G.

India Global Forum (IGF) annual summit Bengaluru The summit will bring together eminent faces of tech-driven disruption and those who have joined the unicorn club along with Union ministers, policymakers, and global business leaders.

This comes as the first-of-its-kind confluence, particularly after the incentives announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the budget. The theme of the summit is ‘The New India Inc.’

Meeting of G7 agriculture ministers Hosted by Germany Germany government has announced that it will host a virtual meeting of agriculture ministers from the G7 countries to discuss the impact of the Russia-Ukraine conflict on world food security.

The German Minister of Agriculture and Food, Cem Özdemir, said that the meeting would also focus on how to stabilize food markets. Germany holds the rotating presidency of the Group of Seven most-advanced economies this year.

36th International Geological Congress New Delhi It will be held virtually from 20th to 22nd March 2022. It is also known as the Olympics of Geosciences.

It is a joint endeavour of Ministry of Mines, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Indian National Science Academy and Science Academies of Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka. They are held quadrennial under the International Union of Geological Congress (IUGS).

2nd India-Australia Virtual Summit Virtual mode Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Australian counterpart Scott Morrison held 2nd India-Australia Virtual Summit.

The summit reviewed the multi-faceted relationship between the two countries and exchanged views on regional and global developments. The first virtual summit held on 4th of June in 2020.

73rd Annual National Conference of Indian Psychiatric Society (ANCIPS) Visakhapatnam Experts from various parts of India and a few from abroad are participating in the three-day conference held at Vizag Conventions at Madhurawada. The last national conference was held 37 years ago in Visakhapatnam.

The focus areas would be on drug and alcohol abuse in society, stress among students and growing incidence of suicides, depression and anxiety, old-age problems and dementia. The national conference, being hosted jointly by IPS, A.P. State branch, Government Hospital Mental Care and Visakha Psychiatric Society, will be inaugurated by Justice P. Laxmana Reddy, Lokayukta of Andhra Pradesh.

5th BIMSTEC Summit hosted by Sri Lanka Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will attend the 5th BIMSTEC Summit on 30 March 2022. The Summit Meeting will be hosted by Sri Lanka virtually, the current BIMSTEC chair. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will also visit Sri Lanka from March 28 to March 30 where he will attend the meeting of the BIMSTEC Foreign Ministers.

NITI Aayog’s Fintech Open Summit Virtual mode NITI Aayog, in collaboration with PhonePe, AWS and EY has organized a three-week virtual summit, titled ‘Fintech Open’ to showcase importance of fintech industry. The summit will be held from 7 to 28 February.

The summit was inaugurated by Union Minister for Railways, Communications, and Electronics and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw in the presence of NITI Aayog Vice-Chairman Dr Rajiv Kumar.

21st The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI)’s World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS) 2022 Virtual mode The annual flagship event held virtually from 16th – 18th February 2022.

24th Conference on e-Governance 2020-21 Hyderabad Union Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Jitendra Singh has inaugurated the 24th National Conference on e-Governance in Hyderabad, Telangana.

19th Meeting of National Tiger Conservation Authority 19th Meeting of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) was held under the chairmanship of the union minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change Bhupender Yadav.

Currently, there are 51 Tiger Reserves in India and more than 35 rivers originate from those areas which are crucial for water security.

The environment minister launched an action plan for the reintroduction, protection and conservation of 7 major big cats in India including the cheetah, which has become extinct in independent India. Under the action plan, 50 of these big cats will be introduced in the next 5 years in various parks.

He announced that 14 Tiger reserves across India have received accreditation of the global Conservation Assured Tiger Standards (CA|TS). He underlined the need to meetings of NTCA in the first week of April, August & December every year.

16th India Digital Summit 2022 Virtual mode Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, addressed the 16th edition of India Digital Summit, 2022 through a video conference.

The two-day virtual event was organised on January 11 and 12, 2022 by the Internet And Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) with the theme “Supercharging Startups”.

First BRICS Sherpas meeting of 2022 held under Chinese chairship held virtually on January 18-19 2022, with the members thanking India for its BRICS chairship in 2021.

China has taken on the rotating chairmanship of BRICS in 2022. BRICS is a grouping of five major emerging economies — Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.

15th BRICS Science Technology Innovation (STI) Steering Committee meeting   the Committee decided that India will host five events in 2022.

During the meeting, India handed over the chairmanship to China for 2022.

Sanjeev Kumar Varshney, Advisor and Head International Cooperation, Department of Science and Technology led the Indian delegation in 15th meeting of BRICS STI Steering Committee.

Out of 25 events that is to be conducted in 2022 by China, India will host five. The Department of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) is the main executing agency for the BRICS Startups Forum and creation of innovation Knowledge Hub.

First India-Central Asia Summit 2022 Virtual mode Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi hosted the 1st India-Central Asia Summit 2022 in a virtual format with the Presidents of 5 Central Asian Nations of KazakhstanKyrgyz RepublicTajikistanTurkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

This summit, also the first engagement of its kind between both sides at the level of leaders, coincided with the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between them.

It highlights India’s growing cooperation with Central Asian countries as a part of its ‘Extended Neighbourhood’.

The leaders reiterated their support for a peaceful, secure and stable Afghanistan. They also agreed to set up Joint Working Groups (JWG) at senior official level on Afghanistan.

18th G-20 summit (2023) India India will hold the G20 presidency from December 1, 2022, and will convene the G20 leaders’ summit in 2023 for the first time.

Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Minister has been appointed as India’s Sherpa for the G20 in 2023 (18th edition). A sherpa is a diplomat who undertakes preparatory work prior to a summit conference.

International Climate Summit 2020-21 India India is all set to host a key conference as part of the International Climate Summit (ICS) 2020-21 to build a dialogue for India’s transition to clean energy.

Director of CSIR, National Chemical Laboratory, Dr Ashish Lele has underlined the importance of the conference for the future mitigation strategies of climate change.

13th BRICS Summit 2021 India (virtual mode) Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, chaired the 13th BRICS Summit virtually on September 9, 2021.

The Summit was participated by all other BRICS Leaders namely, President of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro, President of Russia Vladimir Putin President of China Xi Jinping and President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa.

2+2’ Ministerial Dialogue between India & Australia New Delhi India will host the first-ever 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue with Australia in New Delhi.

Australian Foreign Minister Marise Payne and Defence Minister Peter Dutton from the Australian side will meet with External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of State Dushanbe, Tajikistan The 21st Meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of State was held in hybrid format on September 17, 2021, in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. The meeting was held under the Chairmanship of the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon.

The Indian delegation was led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who participated in the meeting via video-link and at Dushanbe, India was represented by External Affairs Minister, Dr S. Jaishankar.

76th session of the United Nations General Assembly New York Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on September 25, 2021.

He also attended his first in-person Quad summit, hosted by Joe Biden.

Theme for General Debate for year 2021 is “Building Resilience through hope to recover from Covid-19, rebuild sustainably, respond to the needs of the planet, respect the rights of people, and revitalise the United Nations”.

India-UK Consular Dialogue India (virtual mode) The government of India has hosted the first India-United Kingdom Consular Dialogue in the virtual medium.

Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, Devesh Uttam led the Indian delegation while the UK delegation was led by Jennifer Anderson. Both sides discussed the ways to strengthen people-to-people contacts as part of the India-UK 2030 roadmap.

28th ASEAN Regional Forum Ministerial Meeting Hosted by Brunei The Minister of State for External Affairs, Dr Rajkumar Ranjan Singh led India’s delegation to the 28th ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) Foreign Ministers Meeting. The Meeting was held under the Chairmanship of Brunei Darussalam.

The ARF Ministers adopted a Joint Statement on Promoting the Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) Agenda. India engages actively in ARF activities and initiatives on Maritime Security; Counter-Terrorism; Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs); Disaster Relief etc.

WEF’S Sustainable Development Impact Summit 2021 Geneva, Switzerland The World Economic Forum’s annual Sustainable Development Impact Summit will take place on September 20-23, 2021 in Geneva, Switzerland. The United Nations General Assembly, the summit convenes under the theme “Shaping an Equitable, Inclusive and Sustainable Recovery”.

Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) 2021 Hosted by New Zealand

New Zealand is the revolving host of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum. It is headquartered in Singapore.

Recently, New Zealand chaired an extraordinary meeting ahead of a formal meeting in November. US President Joe Biden, Russia’s Vladimir Putin, China’s Xi Jinping and other world leaders met virtually. They discussed on collective actions to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic and its economic impacts.

World Universities Summit 2021 O.P. Jindal Global University, Sonipat, Haryana The Vice President of India Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated and addressed the World Universities Summit as Chief Guest.

The Union Education and Skill Development Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan also addressed the summit. The Summit was organized by O.P. Jindal Global University, located at Sonipat, Haryana.

The theme of the summit was “Universities of the Future: Building Institutional Resilience, Social Responsibility and Community Impact”.

G20 Environment Ministers’ Meeting 2021 Hosted by Italy The G20 Environment Ministers’ Meeting 2021 is one of the ministerial meetings organized as part of the G20 Leaders’ Summit 2021, which will be hosted by Italy in October 2021.

The 2021 G20, under the Italian Presidency, will focus on three broad, interconnected pillars of action: People, Planet, Prosperity.

The G20 aims to take the lead in ensuring a swift international response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Central-South Asia conference 2021 Uzbekistan Uzbekistan has hosted a high-level International Conference titled “Central and South Asia: Regional Connectivity. Challenges and Opportunities” at Tashkent. The conference was an initiative of the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

BRICS Foreign Ministers meeting Virtual mode India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will chair a BRICS Foreign Ministers meeting virtually on June 1, 2021.

The leaders from Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa of the BRICS group will deliberate on the ways to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, global and regional issues of concern, sustainable development, and terrorism, mentioned a press release from External Affairs Ministry.

47th G7 Summit 2021 UK This year’s summit was hosted by the UK. The last G-7 summit was in France in 2019, with last year’s event in the US canceled due to the pandemic. Indian Prime Minister addressed the 47th G7 Summit 2021 through video conferencing.

Earlier, the Finance Ministers from the G7 nations reached a landmark accord setting a Global Minimum Corporate Tax Rate (GMCTR). Apart from India, Australia and South Korea were also invited to participate in the proceedings of the summit as “guest countries”.

5th edition of VivaTech Paris Prime Minister, Narendra Modi virtually addressed the 5th edition of VivaTech. VivaTech is one of the largest digital and startup events of Europe, held in Paris every year since 2016.

PM Modi was invited as a Guest of Honour to deliver the keynote address at VivaTech 2021, which has been organised from 16-19 June 2021 in Paris. During his address, PM Modi invited the world to invest in India based on the five pillars: Talent, Market, Capital, Eco-system and, Culture of openness.

Summit on Financing of African Economies 2021 Paris, France Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan reiterated India’s commitment to build a more resilient and stronger Africa. He was delivering India’s message at the Summit on Financing African Economies hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron.
Global G 20 Summit Italy The Global G20 Health Summit was co-hosted by European Commission along with Italy as part of its G20 presidency amid the surge and spread of the coronavirus cases.

Summit noted, risk of more transmissible variants has increased with nine people losing their lives to Covid-19 per minute.

74th World Health Assembly Minister of Health & Family Welfare and Chairman of WHO Executive Board, Dr Harsh Vardhan, chaired 74th World Health Assembly in virtual mode on March 24, 2021.

According to Dr Harsh Vardhan, executive board has asked for further efforts which can ensure fair and equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines under COVAX Facility. Director-General of World Health Organisation, Dr Tedros, also participated in the event.

First Meeting of BRICS Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Hosted by India (Virtual mode) India hosted a Meeting of BRICS Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors virtually on April 6, 2021. The meeting was jointly Chaired by Union Minister for Finance & Corporate Affairs, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman and Governor, Reserve Bank of India, Shri. Shaktikanta Das. Participants included Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors of the BRICS countries.

As 2021 BRICS Chair, India’s approach is focused on strengthening intra-BRICS cooperation based on Continuity, Consolidation and Consensus.

6th Edition of Raisina Dialogue The Raisina Dialogue was recently organised by the Ministry of External Affairs and Observer Research Foundation.

It is an annual Geo-political event. It is named after Raisina Hill where the seat of Government of India is located. It is a conference on geoeconomics and Geopolitics. It was structured on the lines of Shangri-La-Dialogue. It was held for the first time in 2016.

PM Shri Narendra Modi participated in the “Leaders’ Summit on Climate”, hosted by the President of the U.S.A. Joe Biden.

The two-day conference has been organized virtually on 22-23 April 2021, which coincides with the fifth anniversary of the opening of the Paris Agreement on climate change for signature.

The theme of the summit: Our Collective Sprint to 2030.

‘2+2 ministerial dialogue’ between foreign, defence ministers   India and Russia announced the establishment of a new 2+2 dialogue at the foreign and defence minister level between the two countries.

So far, India has this mechanism with only three countries, United States, Japan, and Australia. But what is significant is Russia is the first non-Quad member country with which New Delhi will now have this mechanism.

7th annual summit of NATHEALTH Virtual mode Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Dr Harsh Vardhan, addressed the 7th annual summit of NATHEALTH in virtual mode on March 26, 2021. The summit focused on ‘Indian Health system expansion in post-COVID era’.

He noted that, “Health for All” is a top priority for current Government and to institutionalize the approach towards this goal, government has launched the “National Health Policy” in 2017.

9th Ministerial Conference of Heart of Asia Dushanbe, Tajikistan External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar reached Dushanbe on a three-day visit to Tajikistan. He attended the 9th Ministerial Conference of Heart of Asia – Istanbul Process on Afghanistan on March 30, 2021.

1st India-European Union High-Level Dialogue co-chaired by the Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal from India side and the European Union Executive Vice-President & Trade Commissioner Mr Valdis Dombrovskis, from the EU side.

This Dialogue was organised in line with the commitment made at the 15th India-EU Leader’s Summit held in July 2020.

World Sustainable Development Summit 2021 through video conferencing The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, inaugurated the Summit on 10th of February. It was held between 10th to 12th February 2021. This summit wass organised by the Energy and Resources Institute’s (TERI).

The World sustainable development summit will be organised under the theme– ‘Redefining Our Common Future: Safe and Secure Environment for All’.

2nd edition of International Conference on Gender Equality (ICGE II) Gender Park Campus in Kozhikode, Kerala inaugurated by the Kerala Chief Minister (CM) Pinarayi Vijayan. He also announced the functional launch of Gender Park Campus on February 14, 2021.

The focal theme is ‘Gender in Sustainable Entrepreneurship and Social Business: The Mediating Role of Empowerment’, seeking to throw light on the critical linkages between entrepreneurship, economic growth and poverty reduction.

Workshop on ‘COVID-19 Management: Experience, Good Practices and Way Forward’ Hosted online by India PM Modi addressed the Workshop with nearly 10 Neighboring Countries on February 18, 2021.

India hosted a Secretary-level virtual meeting on COVID-19 management with South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries.

SAARC nations, including Pakistan, participated in the workshop. Modi called for making a regional air ambulance agreement among neighbouring countries for “medical contingencies”.

2nd edition of the Maritime India Summit (MIS) virtual mode Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Maritime India Summit is being organised with the objective of pushing India to the forefront of the Global Maritime Sector. Recently, the Mumbai Port Trust signed MoUs worth ₹7,400 crores. As a part of this summit, ₹20,000 crore worth MoUs will be signed.

Global Climate Summit 2020 Co-hosted by UN and United Kingdom The United Kingdom and the United Nations are going to co-organise a global climate summit on December 12, 2020, to mark the fifth anniversary of the signing of the Paris Climate Agreement in 2015. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson will co-host the event.

fifth observer to Indian Ocean Commission India India was admitted to the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC: Commission de l’Océan Indien, COI) on 7th March as an observer after it applied last month to be considered for observer status.

The decision was taken at the meeting of the IOC Conference of ministers in Seychelles on 7th March making India the fifth observer. The other four observers China, Malta, European Union and International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF).

5th BIMSTEC Summit Colombo, Sri lanka BIMSTEC charter will be ready for adoption at its next biennial summit 2020 meeting scheduled to be held in Colombo this year (September).

This was informed by BIMSTEC Secretary General Mohammad Shahidu Islam during his meeting with Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa last evening.

10th Commonwealth Youth Parliament

 

Delhi The 10th Commonwealth Youth Parliament, a three day event, is to be hosted in Delhi, India by the Delhi assembly for the first time, on 25th November. On the first day of the event, Lok Sabha speaker, Om Birla attended the event as a chief guest. 47 participants from 24 commonwealth nations.

Purpose: Students in understanding the important and fundamental aspects of parliamentary democracy and enable them to connect with like-minded peers. The students will get the opportunity to experience the ‘real-life’ assembly/parliamentary functioning. The overall purpose of this event is to enlighten to the youth the importance of good governance for the growth of a nation and the world.

UNESCO General Conference Paris Union Minister of Human Resource and Development(MHRD) Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ addressed the 40th UNESCO General Conference in Paris held from November 12-27,2019. The G20 is made up of 19 countries and the EU. The 19 countries are Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the UK and the US.

JP Morgan International Council New Delhi PM met with the JP Morgan International Council in New Delhi on 22nd October. After 2007, this was the first time that the International Council met in India.

18th NAM Summit Baku, Azerbaijan The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit has been scheduled to be held between 25 October and 26 October 2019 in Baku, Azerbaijan. The 18th NAM summit 2019 will be preceded by Ministerial meetings and senior official meetings.

7th RCEP ministerial meeting Bangkok, Thailand from 8-10september 2019 Commerce & Industry and Railways minister Shri Piyush Goyal attended the 7th Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) meeting of the 10members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations(ASEAN) countries and its 6 Free Trade Agreement (FTA) partners in Bangkok, Thailand from September 8-10, 2019. Along with this meeting, he also attended the 16th ASEAN India Economic Ministers (AEM) meeting and the 7th East Asia Economic Ministers Summit held at the same place.
Convention on Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) Geneva, Switzerland The 22nd session of the United Nations (UN) Committee on Convention on Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) was held at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), Geneva, Switzerland from September 2-3, 2019. Indian delegation was led by Mrs. Shakuntala D. Gamlin, Secretary, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD).
South Asian Parliamentarian conference Srilanka at the Colombo United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) along with the parliament of Srilanka at the Colombo city conducted the two-day-long 2019 UNICEF South Asian Parliamentarian Conference on Children Rights Convention to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the convention of the rights of the child. This is the 3rd convention conducted by UNICEF with parliamentarians for children where the meeting aims to discuss the issues faced by children and on the challenges to improve the child right.
