Verb

A verb is a word that tells us what a person, animal or thing is doing. Verbs show action, so they are also called action words. Some verbs do not show action and indicate existence or state of being like appear, seem etc. Every sentence must have a verb.

क्रिया वह शब्द है जो यह बताता है की कर्ता (व्यक्ति, वस्तु या जानवर) क्या कर रहा है । जैसे – अभिनव सेब खा रहा है ( ‘खाना (Verb)’ क्रिया है जो बताती है कि अभिनव क्या कर रहा है) ।

Principal Verb- These are main verbs in a sentence. They can stand on their own. They are also called as lexical verbs. It is from the main verbs all other forms of verbs are derived…namely the infinitive, past, present and future tense. The main verb tells us about the action or state of the subject in a sentence.

ये एक वाक्य में मुख्य क्रिया हैं। वे अपने दम पर खड़े हो सकते हैं। उन्हें लेक्सिकल क्रिया भी कहा जाता है। यह मुख्य क्रियाओं से है क्रियाओं के अन्य सभी रूपों को व्युत्पन्न किया जाता है … अर्थात् असीम, भूत, वर्तमान और भविष्य काल। मुख्य क्रिया हमें एक वाक्य में विषय की क्रिया या स्थिति के बारे में बताती है।

Transitive verb- A transitive verb is a type of action verb that links the subject with the object (a person or a thing) of a sentence, which is receiving the action.

सकर्मक क्रिया एक प्रकार की क्रिया क्रिया है जो किसी वाक्य के Object (एक व्यक्ति या एक चीज) के साथ विषय को जोड़ती है, जो Action प्राप्त कर रही है।

Example- Ram is reading news paper. (राम समाचार पत्र पढ़ रहा है।)

Sita is going to market. (सीता बाजार जा रही है।)

Intransitive verb- Intransitive verbs which does not have any specific object on which the action being done:

असकर्मक क्रिया मे कर्म नही होता, कर्ता का काम का प्रभाव किसी दूसरे पे नही पङता, स्वयं पर पङता है उसे असकर्मक क्रिया कहते है।

Example- Raj is playing. (राज खेल रहा है।)

Abhinav is sleeping. (अभिनव सो रहा है।)

Auxiliary Verb/ Helping Verb- These are verbs which are used to form the tenses, moods and voices of the main or principal verbs.

Is, was, were, can could, might, have, has, should, would, could, couldn’t, did, didn’t, must, will shall….these are auxiliary verbs.

ये वे क्रियाएं हैं जो मुख्य या प्रमुख क्रियाओं के लिए तनाव, मूड और स्वर बनाने के लिए उपयोग की जाती हैं।

Example- She has fallen ill.

He was reading the book when I saw him.

  • V1: Present Form
  • V2: Past Form
  • V3: Past Participle Form
  • V4: ‘ing’ Form.
