Agritech Innovation Hub Launched in Meerut to Boost Smart Farming

- Date & Venue: On July 8, 2025, Union Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan and Minister of State for Skill Development & Education Shri Jayant Chaudhary opened the Uttar Pradesh Agritech Innovation Hub and Agritech Startup & Technology Showcase at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture & Technology (SVPUAT) in Meerut.

Vision & Support for Technology in Agriculture
- Developed Villages, Prosperous Farmers: Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that India’s growth is not complete without making its villages and farmers strong. He called the new Agritech Hub a “very meaningful and historic step” for rural development.
- Budgetary Provisions: Minister Pradhan shared that the latest Union Budget has planned to create special centres (called “Centres of Excellence”) to bring in new technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and data tools to directly support farmers.
- Prime Minister’s Push: Shri Pradhan thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his continued support in bringing modern technology into farming, especially to benefit rural and small farmers.

IIT Ropar’s Role & MoU
- Centre of Excellence for AI: IIT Ropar will lead efforts to use AI in farming and is a main partner of the Innovation Hub.
- MoU Signed: An official agreement (MoU) was signed between IIT Ropar and SVPUAT to work together on agritech research and education.
- Funding & Infrastructure: IIT Ropar is giving around ₹75 lakh worth of modern equipment, including smart sensors, automated farming systems, and cloud computers from its advanced tech lab.
