FM Nirmala Sitharaman participates in 103rd Meeting of World Bank Development Committee Plenary

- Union Minister for Finance Nirmala Sitharaman participated in the 103rd Meeting of the Development Committee Plenary of World Bank through video conferencing.
- The items on the agenda included World Bank Group (WBG) and International Monetary Fund Support for Debt Relief Under the Common Framework and Beyond COVID-19 pandemic.

Tropical cyclone Seroja rips across 1000 kilometers stretch of Western Australia

- Tropical cyclone Seroja has ripped across a 1,000km stretch of Western Australia, leaving a trail of damage. The category three storm made landfall near the town of Kalbarri yesterday with windspeed of up to 170km/h.
- Residents reported smashed houses, fallen trees and downed power lines.

Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan trans-border trade center

- Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have launched the construction of an international center for trade and economic cooperation called “Central Asia”. The Central Asia Trade center has been launched on the borders of the two countries.
- The Center is to be constructed in an area of 400 hectares of land. It will have a capacity to accommodate 35,000 people and five thousand trucks. After completion, the center will become a large trade and industrial platform to implement joint projects of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
- After China and Russia, Kazakhstan is the third largest trade partner of Uzbekistan.
Appointment
President appoints Shri Sushil Chandra as the Chief Election Commissioner

- The President appointed Shri Sushil Chandra the senior-most Election Commissioner, as the Chief Election Commissioner in the Election Commission of India.
- Shri Sushil Chandra will assume the charge of office of the Chief Election Commissioner with effect from the 13th ApriI, 2021 vice Shri Sunil Arora consequent upon his demitting the Office of the Chief Election Commissioner on the 12th April, 2021.
- A notification in this regard has been issued by Legislative Department, Ministry of Law & Justice.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar wins ICC Players of the Month award in March
- India seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar on Tuesday won the ICC Player of the Month award for his superlative show in the recent limited over series against England in March.
- The 31-year-old Indian took six wickets with an economy rate of 4.65 in the three ODIs, while capturing four wickets with a fantastic economy rate of 6.38 in the five T20Is to emerge as the standout bowler on either side in the white ball series.

- Every year, the world celebrates April 12 as the International Day of Human Space Flight.
- The day celebrates the beginning of the space era for mankind, reaffirming the important contribution of space science and technology in achieving sustainable development goals and increasing the well-being of States and peoples, as well as ensuring the realization of their aspiration to maintain outer space for peaceful purposes.”
13 April – Jallianwala Bagh Massacre

- It took place on 13 April 1919 at Amritsar and is also known as the Amritsar massacre.
- On this day, British troops under the Command of Gen Dyer fired on a large crowd of unarmed Indians in Amritsar in Punjab of India. Several hundred peoples were killed and many hundreds were wounded. Read MORE………..
Obituary
Hockey Player Balbir Singh Junior Passed away
- Balbir Singh Junior, who was a member of the silver medal- winning 1958 Asian Games Indian hockey team passed Away at the age of 88.
- In 1962, he joined the Army as an emergency commissioned officer. He played for the Services hockey team in the national tournaments at Delhi. Singh retired as a Major in 1984 and later settled in Chandigarh.
