75 new Vande Bharat trains to connect all parts of India

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on the occasion of 75th Independence Day and announced that 75 ‘Vande Bharat’ trains would connect different parts of the country in 75 weeks of the celebration of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.
• The 75 Vande Bharat trains will connect every corner of the country, in 75 weeks of the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’, which is being celebrated from March 12, 2021, upto August 15, 2023.

‘Nation First, Always First,’ theme of 75th Independence Day

• The theme of the 75th Independence Day this year is ‘Nation First, Always First’ to honour the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters for the nation.
• The celebration of “Azadika Amrit Mahotsav”(a festival to commemorate 75 years of Indian Independence), which began in Gujarat in March, will continue throughout the year, with a slew of programs to showcase India’s development, governance, technology, and reforms, in the last 75 years.

Rice under all scheme to be fortified by 2024

• While addressing the nation on 75th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced to provide fortified rice to poor under various schemes.
• This decision was taken in the view that, malnutrition and lack of essential nutrients among poor women and poor children is a major hurdle in their development. This, government will provide fortified rice with nutrition them.

Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel announces 4 new districts

• Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has announced the creation of four new districts and 18 new tehsils in the state. The four new districts are: Mohla Manpur, Sarangarh-Bilaigarh, Shakti, Manendragarh.
• Now, the total number of administrative districts in the state have reached 32.

Hakainde Hichilema as a Zambia’s new president

• Zambian opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema has been declared the winner of last week’s bitterly contested presidential election.
• Mr Hichilema defeated the incumbent, President Edgar Lungu, by a landslide – more than a million votes. It was Mr Hichilema’s sixth attempt at winning the presidency.

RBI cancels licence of Karnala Nagari Sahakari Bank, Panvel in Maharashtra

• The Reserve Bank has cancelled the licence of Karnala Nagari Sahakari Bank, Panvel in Maharashtra for not having adequate capital and being unable to pay its present depositors in full.
• The licence of the bank is cancelled as it does not have adequate capital and earning prospects, RBI said, adding that the lender has failed to comply with the requirements of various sections of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.

Harshit Raja becomes India’s 69th Chess Grandmaster

• The 20-year-old Chess player Harshit Raja from Pune, Maharashtra has become the 69th Grandmaster of India in Chess.
• He achieved the feat of becoming the GM at Biel Masters Open 2021 where he drew his game against Dennis Wagner to get his final GM norm with one round to spare.
