PM Modi launches multiple projects in Haryana as tribute to Babasaheb Ambedkar

  • On the occasion of the birth anniversary of the Architect of the Constitution, Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, PM Narendra Modi dedicated a host of development projects to the people of Haryana.
  • He laid the foundation stone for the third unit of 800 MW at Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram Thermal Power Plant in Yamunanagar, which will be built at a cost of 8,469 crore rupees. Additionally, he laid the foundation stone for a GOBAR DHAN Plant in Yamunanagar worth 90 crore rupees and inaugurated the Rewari Bypass built at a cost of 1069 crore rupees.
  • PM also laid the foundation stone of the new terminal of Maharaja Agrasen Airport and flagged off the first flight for Ayodhya from the Airport.

Telangana Becomes First State to Implement SC Categorisation Act

  • Telangana becomes the first state in India to implement the Scheduled Caste (SC) Categorisation of Reservations Act 2025, aiming to ensure more equitable distribution of benefits among marginalized SC sub-groups.
  • The state government has issued a Government Order (GO) categorizing 56 SC communities into three groups, following the Governor’s consent and the Bill’s passage in the State Legislature.
  • The move, coinciding with Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s birth anniversary, is seen as a major step toward social justice, expected to influence policies on reservations in education, employment, and political representation.

AICTE forms expert committee to integrate AI across all academic streams

  • AICTE has constituted an expert committee, chaired by Anand Deshpande of Persistent Systems, to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Applied AI across diverse academic programs, including non-technical streams like BBA, BCA, and electrical engineering, aiming to provide foundational AI knowledge to all students regardless of discipline.
  • Declaring 2025 as the ‘Year of Artificial Intelligence’, AICTE has launched a nationwide initiative to bring AI education to over 14,000 colleges and 40 million students, which includes faculty development programs, AI awareness campaigns, and partnerships with leading tech firms.
  • Emphasizing faculty training and curriculum revision, AICTE is updating academic frameworks biennially to align with technological trends and address emerging challenges like AI-generated assignments, ensuring teachers are equipped to teach and evaluate in an AI-driven learning environment.

QNu Labs Unveils World’s First Quantum-Safe Platform ‘Q-Shield’ to Safeguard Critical Infrastructure

  • Startup QNu Labs launches world’s 1st unique platform Q-Shield empowering enterprises to protect critical infrastructure
  • QNu Labs, one of the startups selected by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) under the National Quantum Mission, has launched the world’s first unique platform, Q-Shield.
  • It empowers enterprises to protect their critical infrastructure. It also enables seamless cryptography management across any environment, including cloud, on-premises, or hybrid, on the occasion of World Quantum Day.
  • Q-Shield enables various services like Qosmos for key generation, QConnect for secured connectivity and QVerse for secured collaboration.
  • Selected under the National Quantum Mission and incubated at IIT Madras, QNu Labs is strengthening India’s position in global quantum cybersecurity innovation.

Crisil projects 6.5% GDP growth for India in FY26

  • Global credit rating agency Crisil projected India’s GDP to grow by 6.5% in fiscal 2026, while cautioning that US tariff hikes remain a significant downside risk to the forecast.
  • The agency notes improving economic indicators in the second half of FY25, including stronger output in capital goods, infrastructure, and construction sectors, along with positive signals from RBI surveys reflecting rising consumer confidence and demand in both urban and rural areas.

Ecuadorean President Noboa re-elected for second term

  • Incumbent Ecuadorean President Daniel Noboa has secured a second four-year term in the country’s presidential elections. He won 55.85 percent of the vote against his left-wing challenger, Luisa González.
  • The 37-year-old right-wing leader hailed his victory as historic and reaffirmed his commitment to continuing Ecuador’s war on drugs.
  • More than 13 million people were eligible to vote, which is mandatory for adults up to age of 65. It is options for people aged 16 and 17 and over 65. Failure to vote results in a $46 fine. Ecuador has one of the highest homicide rates in South America.

First-ever all-women space tourist rocket successfully returns to Earth after a short flight

  • Blue Origin successfully launched its 11th human flight, NS-31, carrying an all-women crew including singer Katy Perry, marking the first all-women tourist spaceflight since Valentina Tereshkova’s solo mission in 1963.
  • The flight reached over 100 kilometers above Earth, crossing the Karman line, with the fully automated spacecraft completing a 10-minute sub-orbital journey before safely returning to Texas.
  • The crew included notable figures such as Gayle King, Kerianne Flynn, Aisha Bowe, Amanda Nguyen, and Lauren Sánchez, showcasing a diverse group of women from various professional backgrounds.
  • New Shepard, the launch vehicle used, is a fully reusable sub-orbital rocket developed by Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin, named in honor of astronaut Alan Shepard.

Mascot and logo of Khelo India Youth Games 2025 to be held in Bihar

  • Bihar will host the seventh edition of Khelo India Youth Games 2025 from 4th to 15th May. The games will be organised at various cities, including Patna, Gaya, Rajgir, Begusarai and Bhagalpur.
  • Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Union Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya unveiled the mascot and logo of Khelo India Youth Games 2025.
  • The mascot Khelo India will be “ Gajsimha” which symbolizes the power of elephant and heart of lion. The mascot has been derived from the archival heritage of Pala dynasty from Nalanda and Bodhgaya engraved on temples and their pillars.
  • The logo of KIYG 2025 has been inspired from the rich cultural heritage of Bihar and the colours orange and depicts enthusiasm and nature.
  • The games are expected to feature more than 8500 players and 10,000 delegates. Besides regular games of volleyball, football, basketball, boxing, kabaddi 18 different events of Athletics and Sepak Takraw will be held during the games. Around 27 disciplines of different sports indigenous games like Malkhamb will also be part of the KIYG games.

Magnus Carlsen clinches Freestyle Chess Grand Slam 2025

  • In Chess, world number one Magnus Carlsen of Norway clinched the Freestyle Chess Grand Slam 2025 in Paris, France. He defeated American Grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura with a 1.5-0.5 match victory.
  • With this, Carlsen won the 2 lakh US Dollars, followed by Nakamura, who won 1 lakh 40 thousand US Dollars. Moreover, Italian-American Fabiano Caruana crushed German Grandmaster Vincent Keymer in the battle of third place and took 1 lakh US Dollars, along with a spot in the Las Vegas Grand Slam.
  • Indian Grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi defeated Maxime Vacxhier-Lagrave of France by 1.5-0.5 points and bagged fifth spot with 50 thousand US Dollar prize money.

14 April – World Chagas Disease Day

  • World Chagas Disease Day is observed every year on 14 April to raise awareness about Chagas disease, a potentially life-threatening illness caused by the Trypanosoma cruzi parasite.
  • The disease is mostly found in Latin America, but cases have also been reported in other parts of the world due to global migration.
  • Theme 2025 – Prevent, Control, Care: Everyone’s role in Chagas disease
  • The first World Chagas Disease Day was celebrated in 2020, and the date commemorates April 14, 1909, when the disease was first diagnosed in a human by Brazilian doctor Carlos Chagas, after whom the disease is named.

Bajaj Auto non-executive director Madhur Bajaj passes away

  • Former Vice Chairman of Bajaj Auto, Madhur Bajaj, passed away at the age of 73.
  • Born on August 19, 1952, he also served as Chairman of Maharashtra Scooters and as a Director of Bajaj Electricals, Bajaj Finance, and other companies within the Bajaj Group.
  • Madhur Bajaj was the grandson of Jamnalal Bajaj, founder of the Bajaj Group, and cousin of the late Rahul Bajaj.

Padma Vibhushan Kathak pioneer Kumudini Lakhia passes away

  • Eminent Kathak exponent and choreographer Kumudini Lakhia passed away at the age of 95.
  • Lakhia was conferred with the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian award, on the Republic Day this year in recognition of her lifelong dedication to Kathak.
  • She was honored with Padma Vibhushan in 2025, Padma Bhushan in 2010, Padma Shri in 1987, Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1982, and Kalidasa Samman (2022-03) by the Madhya Pradesh government for her contribution to Kathak.

Former Malaysian PM Abdullah Ahmad Badawi dies at 85

  • Former Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi passed away at the age of 85.
  • Abdullah, Malaysia’s fifth leader, served from 2003 to 2009, when he was pressured to resign to take responsibility for the governing coalition’s dismal results in national elections.
