India, Cuba signed an MoU on digital public infrastructure collaboration
- The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has signed an MoU with the Ministry of Communications of the Republic of Cuba on Cooperation in the field of Sharing Successful Digital Solutions Implemented at Population Scale for Digital Transformation in New Delhi.
- The MoU intends to promote digital transformation through capacity-building programs, exchange of best practices, and other collaborative activities to mutually benefit the digital ecosystems of both countries.
- India to assist Cuba in adopting Digital Public Infrastructure, fostering development partnerships for enhanced collaboration.

Ladakh organized Mamani Festival
- In Ladakh, the annual Ethnic Mamani Festival was organized at Historical Styangkung Village and Chiktan Shagaran.
- The Steyangkung village is around 500 years old and still well-preserved till now and is being developed as one of the well-maintained heritage villages in Ladakh.
- The history of the celebration of the Mamani Festival in Ladakh goes back to the ancient tradition of giving food to departed family members.
- During Mamani, people would exchange food with their relatives and neighbours and worship a variety of spirits (Lha). These Festivals have helped in the revival of more than 35 Cuisines of Kargil Ladakh.
- The Mamani Festival is organized by Himalayan Cultural Heritage Foundation (HCHF) and the Ladakh Tourism Department.
JP Nadda launches ‘Gaon Chalo Abhiyaan’ in Delhi
- BJP President JP Nadda has launched the ‘Gaon Chalo Abhiyaan’ in Delhi, a nationwide campaign to connect with rural and urban communities.
- The program Is scheduled from February 4th to 11 February.
- Under the Gaon Chalo Abhiyaan, BJP workers aim to reach seven lakh villages and urban booths, disseminating the achievements of the Modi government.
- Over 30 lakh party workers will participate in the Abhiyaan.
G Kishan Reddy inaugurates National Skill Training Institute in Hyderabad
- Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy has inaugurated the National Skill Training Institute in Hyderabad, Telangana.
- Constructed for 19.90 crore rupees in 4 acres of area, the institute offers both short-term and long-term skilling courses to women in various sectors.
- Reddy said that the empowerment of women has been a major priority for the Central Government. He said the Government has launched numerous schemes dedicated to empowering women across India. He recalled the initiatives like Beti Bachao Beti Padhav and PM Ujjwala.
Sarbananda Sonowal laid foundation stone for Ayush Diksha Centre in Odisha
- Union minister of Ayush and ports, shipping and waterways Sarbananda Sonowal has laid the foundation stone for Ayush Diksha, a first-of-its-kind centre for the development of human resources for Ayush professionals.
- This state-of-the-art centre will be developed within the campus of Central Ayurveda Research Institute, Bhubaneswar.
- The Ayush Diksha centre is being built with a budget of Rs 30 crore. It will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities including two auditoriums, 40 modern rooms with all amenities, suites for VIPs, dedicated space for a natural library, discussion rooms, modular kitchen, dining lounge, among other amenities.
- The Ayush Diksha Centre will enable the Ayush professionals to hone their skills and upscale their dexterity in providing world-class patient care services to the people of the country.
- The institution will offer training programmes for Ayush professionals, especially those from Ayurveda, as it aims to collaborate with national institutes of prominence for capacity development, strengthening human resources, facilitating research and development, achieving self-sustainability with an objective to generate revenue.
Hardeep S Puri launches first pilot project to make jet fuel from alcohol
- The first pilot technology project to make jet fuel from alcohol was inaugurated by Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri in Pune.
- This project will produce sustainable biological aviation fuel or SAF.
- This pilot project has been set up in the research and development department of Praj Udyog Group in Pirangut Industrial Estate near Pune.
- The flight from Pune to Delhi was completed last year using bioaviation fuel made from alcohol. At that time, Puri welcomed the flight at the Delhi airport.
- This biofuel production industry will have a huge scope in the future as even if at least one percent of the total aviation fuel used in India is blended with this sustainable bio aviation fuel, at least 14 crore litres of biofuel will be needed every year.
Jagannath Temple Hosts ‘Gole Mela’ Festival in Udhampur
- In Jammu and Kashmir, a Popular Festival known as ‘Gole Mela’ has been organized at Jagannath temple in Udhampur.
- A large number of devotees assembled and paid obeisance at Jagannath temple. Various of stalls were established at the venue of the festival.
- Gole Mela is organized twice every year. Devotees believe that from today the night time starts decreasing and day time starts increasing day by day.
- Moreover, two ancient temples are dedicated to Lord Jagannatha across India. One is situated in Puri, Orissa, and other in Udhampur District of Jammu and Kashmir.
Mansukh Mandaviya laid foundation stone for cancer hospital in Rajkot
- Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel laid the foundation stone of Khodaldham Trust Cancer Hospital in Rajkot.
- The Shree Khodaldham Trust (SKT), an organization for the Leuva Patel community, will build a hospital and a cancer research center in Amreli village in Padadhari taluka of Rajkot.
- Earlier, PM Modi, while virtually addressing the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the hospital, said that 30 new cancer hospitals were developed in the state in the last nine years.
- Gujarat has made unprecedented progress in the field of health in the last 20 years. Today, Gujarat is becoming a big medical hub in India. Till 2002, there were only 11 medical colleges in Gujarat, and their number has increased to 40 currently.
- In 20 years, the number of MBBS seats has increased five times, and the number of PG seats has increased three times. The central government has built around 1.5 lakh ‘Ayushman Arogya Mandirs’.
- These Mandirs focus on the early detection of cancer and other life-threatening diseases. The early detection of cancer helps doctors treat it.

- Union Cabinet Minister Kiren Rijiju has inaugurated the Young Scientist Conference at India International Science Festival 2023 in Faridabad, Haryana.
- He emphasized the pivotal role of the Young Scientist Conference (YSC) in providing a platform for nurturing aspiring researchers in the realm of frontier sciences.
- The Young Scientist Conference serves as a vibrant platform, bringing together young postgraduates, research scholars, postdocs, academicians, scientists, entrepreneurs, and innovators under the age of 45.
- Participants are drawn from diverse backgrounds, including R&D laboratories, academic institutions, and industries. The conference aims to facilitate the exchange of experiences, ideas, and discussions that contribute to the country’s scientific vision.
Pralhad Joshi inaugurated State Mining Minister’s Conference in Bhopal
- Union Minister of Mines, Coal, and Parliamentary Affairs Pralhad Joshi has inaugurated the 2nd State Mining Ministers’ Conference in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.
- This 2nd Conference of State Mining Ministers provides opportunities to discuss & deliberate issues pertaining to the mining sector paving way to implement the reforms done in the mining sector.
- The focal point of the conference is to develop strategies and increase the effectiveness of the new policy reforms brought out by the Union Government.
PM Modi inaugurated the Ayodhya Ram Mandir
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, marking a momentous occasion in India’s history.
- The inauguration involved the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ (consecration) ceremony of the Ram Lalla idol, a pivotal event that symbolizes the infusion of life into the idol.
- The event, attended by over 7,000 dignitaries, was not just a religious ceremony but also a cultural milestone for India.
- The Ram Lalla idol, crafted by renowned sculptor Arun Yogiraj from Karnataka, is a 51-inch black-coloured depiction of Lord Ram as a five-year-old child.

- The temple is 76 metres (250 ft) wide, 120 metres (380 ft) long and 49 metres (161 ft) high.
- The temple complex will be the world’s third largest Hindu temple.
- It is designed in the Gurjara-Chaulukya style of Nagara style architecture, a type of Hindu temple architecture
- Main Deity – Ram Lalla Virajman, the infant form of Rama, an avatar of Vishnu, is the presiding deity of the temple.
- Ram Lalla’s dress was stitched by tailors Bhagwat Prasad and Shankar Lal.
- Architect of the Temple – Sompura Family Ram Mandir. Sompura comes from a long line of temple architects and is the 15th generation of the family, hailing from Ahmedabad.

IREDA, Indian Overseas Bank ink pact to co-finance renewable energy projects
- State-owned Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) has partnered with the Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) to co-finance renewable energy projects in India.
- The agreement was signed in the presence of IREDA CMD Pradip Kumar Das and IOB MD and CEO Ajay Kumar Srivastava in the national capital.
- The partnership aims to streamline loan syndication and underwriting processes, management of Trust and Retention Account (TRA) for IREDA borrowers, and work towards fixed interest rates over a 3-4-year period for IREDA borrowings.
- This collaboration builds upon IREDA’s successful partnerships with other prominent financial institutions, including Bank of Baroda, Bank of India, Union Bank of India, India Infrastructure Finance Company Limited, and Bank of Maharashtra.
- IREDA, under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, is a non-banking financial institution engaged in promoting, developing, and extending financial assistance for setting up projects related to new and renewable sources of energy and energy efficiency/conservation.

BoB launches new ‘bob 360’ deposit scheme
- An Indian public sector bank, Bank of Baroda launched its new ‘bob-360 deposit scheme’.
- The scheme pays out an annual interest rate of 7.60 percent.
- In this, general fixed deposit account holders will receive interest of up to 7.10 percent, while senior citizens will receive 7.60 percent interest.
- “bob-360” is an excellent opportunity for depositors who are looking for higher interest rates and assured returns for a shorter time period.
- According to the bank, new as well as existing customers can benefit from the scheme at any Bank of Baroda branch across India, both online and offline method.

LIC launches Jeevan Dhara II plan
- Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has launched a new saving and annuity plan Jeevan Dhara II.
- The minimum age of entry into the Jeevan Dhara II policy is 20 years and the maximum age of entry into the policy can be 80/70/65 years minus the deferment period, depending upon the annuity option chosen.
- The annuity is guaranteed from inception and 11 annuity options are available to prospective policyholders.
- The non-participating plan provides life cover during deferment period and offers higher annuity rate at higher age. Loan facility shall be available during or after the deferment period under annuity options with return of premium/ purchase price.

Arevalo sworn in as Guatemala’s president
- Anti-corruption crusader Bernardo Arevalo was sworn in as Guatemala’s president.
- Guatemala’s attorney general, an ally of Giammattei, has made several attempts to hinder Arevalo’s transition to the presidency, including trying to strip Arevalo and his vice president of legal immunity, attempting to suspend his Semilla party and annul the election.
- Arevalo won August elections by a landslide and about 9 hours after his inauguration was scheduled to start, he took the oath as president, replacing conservative politician Alejandro Giammattei whose government has been engulfed in corruption scandals. Giammattei skipped the ceremony.

Tata Group to continue as IPL title sponsor until 2028
- Tata Group will pay Rs 2,500 crore, the highest-ever sponsorship amount in the history of the Indian Premier League, as it won the title sponsorship rights of IPL, which has become a decacorn and is the richest cricket league in the world.
- Tata has won the rights for five years. The TATA Group earlier held the title sponsorship rights for the IPL in 2022 and 2023, paying Rs 670 crore for the two-year rights.
- Tata is also the title sponsor of the Women’s Premier League, the largest women’s T20 league globally.
- Tata retained title sponsorship rights from 2024 to 2028 by matching Aditya Birla Group’s (ABG) bid, sources had told ET earlier. Aditya Birla Group and Tata Sons were the only companies in contention for the title sponsorship rights of IPL.
- According to the tender released on December 2023, the BCCI set the base price for the five-year rights at Rs 1750 crore, translating to Rs 350 crore per year for 74 matches.
- IPL has attained decacorn status, witnessing a remarkable 28% surge in its combined brand value to reach $10.7 billion, as reported by Brand Finance. Furthermore, the overall brand value of the IPL system has experienced an impressive 433% increase since its inception in 2008.
- DLF, Pepsi, Vivo, and Dream11 have previously held these rights, with the annual value increasing from Rs 40 crore, paid by DLF for 2008–12, to Rs 440 crore per year, as offered by Vivo for 2018–19.

Tripura, Manipur, and Meghalaya celebrate 52nd Statehood Day
- Three northeastern states– Tripura, Meghalaya, and Manipur– on 21 January celebrated their 52nd Statehood Day.
- With the introduction of the North-East Area (Re-organisation) Act 1971, Tripura, Manipur, and Meghalaya attained statehood on January 21, 1972.
- At the time of independence, the North East comprised the Assam plains, hill districts, and North Eastern Frontier Tracts (NEFT) of the North-Eastern border. Manipur and Tripura states were granted Union Territory status in 1949. Nagaland achieved statehood on December 1, 1963.

- Parakram Diwas is observed every year on 23 January to mark the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, a prominent figure in India’s freedom struggle.
- This day is celebrated to honour his indomitable spirit and invaluable contribution to India’s independence.
