Railways Ministry and NTPC Host National Conference on Fly Ash Utilisation
- The Ministry of Railways and NTPC organized a National Conference on Fly Ash Utilisation and Transportation at the Power Management Institute, Noida.
- In 2024-25, India generated 340 million tonnes of fly ash, out of which 332.63 million tonnes were successfully utilized.
- Utilisation share: 32% in road & flyover construction, 27% in the cement industry, and 14% in bricks & tiles manufacturing.
- The Ministry highlighted eco-friendly transportation with freight concessions, aiming to promote sustainability, partnerships, and a roadmap for nationwide fly ash management.
Govt Forms Panels to Mark 150th Birth Anniversaries of Sardar Patel, Birsa Munda & Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s Centenary
- The government has constituted three high-level committees to commemorate the 150th birth anniversaries of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Birsa Munda, and the birth centenary of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, with PM Narendra Modi as chairman of all committees.
- Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (31 October 1875), known as the Iron Man of India, was instrumental in integrating 565 princely states into the Union of India and played a key role in the freedom struggle.
- Birsa Munda (15 November 1875), revered as Bhagwan by tribal communities, led the Ulgulan movement against British oppression, inspiring a tribal and national awakening.
- Atal Bihari Vajpayee (25 December 1924), a statesman, poet, and three-time Prime Minister, was conferred Bharat Ratna (2015); his birth anniversary is observed as Good Governance Day, and his tenure saw the Pokhran-II nuclear tests (1998).
Raksha Nikhil Khadse Inaugurates ‘Giving Wings to Dreams Conclave 2025’
- MoS for Youth Affairs & Sports Raksha Nikhil Khadse inaugurated the ‘Giving Wings to Dreams Conclave 2025’ in New Delhi, emphasising early exposure to sports science, adoption of PPP models, and greater private investment in sports.
- She highlighted the need for R&D in sports science, expansion to rural areas, training for coaches/teachers, indigenous production of sports equipment, and use of CSR funds for sports development.
- The conclave brought together stakeholders to discuss the future of India’s sports ecosystem, focusing on grassroots talent, startups, investment, manufacturing, and transparent governance.
India Maritime Week to Be Held in Mumbai from October 27 to 31
- India Maritime Week 2025 will be held in Mumbai from 27th to 31st October, with nearly 1 lakh delegates from 100+ countries participating to showcase progress in ports, shipping, and waterways.
- The event aims to attract ₹1 lakh crore investment opportunities, fostering dialogue on sustainability, innovation, and future-ready maritime policies, with participation from global and domestic leaders.
- During the previous edition, Chennai Port signed 30+ MoUs worth ₹8,000 crore; this year’s five-day event at the Bombay Exhibition Centre will feature policy, commerce, and technology discussions along with nationwide roadshows.
Arunachal govt launches ‘e-Bhavishya’ for timely pension disbursement
- The Arunachal Pradesh government has launched e-Bhavishya, a digital pension reform initiative to ensure transparent, speedy, and hassle-free disbursement of retirement benefits to government employees.
- The system guarantees delivery of the Pension Payment Order (PPO) on the day of retirement, eliminating long-standing delays.
- The reform introduces real-time digital updates for retired employees to track the status of their pension cases.

CISF launches its first all-women commando unit to boost gender parity
- The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has launched its first all-women commando unit to boost gender parity. Training is underway at the Regional Training Centre in Barwaha, Madhya Pradesh.
- 30 women personnel are undergoing an 8-week advanced course at the Centre. The programme includes physical fitness, weapons training, live-fire drills, rappelling, and survival exercises.
- These commandos will be deployed in Quick Reaction Teams and Special Task Forces at high-security sites. At least 100 women from Aviation Security Groups and sensitive units will be trained in the first phase.
- CISF aims to make this a regular part of its training and reach 10% women representation. Currently, women make up 8% of the force, with 2,400 more recruits expected next year.
PM Modi Inaugurated Hybrid Battery Electrode Production,
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated localised production of hybrid battery electrodes and flag off battery electric vehicle exports to 100 countries at Hansalpur near Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
- At Khodaldham Ground, Ahmedabad, Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development projects worth over ₹5,400 crore, emphasizing dignified living for all sections of society and easing the lives of the urban poor.

India, UN World Food Programme Sign Pact to Supply 200,000 MT Fortified Rice for Global Humanitarian Aid
- The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and the Government of India signed an agreement to supply up to 200,000 metric tonnes of fortified rice from FCI warehouses over the next five years for global humanitarian needs.
- The initiative aims to address food and nutritional requirements of vulnerable populations in crisis zones, with India contributing as an agricultural surplus nation under the principle of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (“the world is one family”).
- This collaboration follows discussions held at the February 2025 WFP Executive Board side event in Rome, marking India’s continued commitment to supporting food-insecure communities worldwide.

SEBI Approves LIC’s Reclassification as Public Shareholder in IDBI Bank Post Divestment
- SEBI has approved LIC’s reclassification as a public shareholder in IDBI Bank after completion of its strategic divestment, subject to specific conditions.
- LIC’s voting rights will be capped at 10%, with no control over the bank’s affairs, no board representation, and no special rights through agreements.
- As per RBI’s directive, LIC must reduce its residual shareholding in IDBI Bank to 15% or below within two years post-disinvestment, while the Centre and LIC currently hold 95% stake in the bank.)

Tata Digital Appoints Sajith Sivanandan as New CEO & MD from September 1, 2025
- Tata Digital has appointed Sajith Sivanandan, former President of Jio Mobile Digital Services, as its new CEO & MD effective September 1, 2025.
- His appointment follows the resignation of Naveen Tahilyani in May 2025, leaving the company without leadership for months.
- Sivanandan’s key challenge will be to strengthen Tata Digital’s position against Amazon, Flipkart, Zepto, Blinkit, and Instamart, while boosting employee morale.
RBI’s Rajiv Ranjan Appointed Vice President & Chief Risk Officer of NDB
- The New Development Bank (NDB), established by BRICS nations, has appointed RBI Executive Director Rajiv Ranjan as Vice President and Chief Risk Officer for a five-year term.
- Ranjan, a career central banker with 35+ years of experience, has been serving as a member of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) since May 2022 and will take charge in September.
- As former head of the Monetary Policy Department and secretary to the MPC, he contributed significantly to India’s monetary policy and liquidity management.

Mirabai Clinches Gold at Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships 2025
- Mirabai Chanu, India’s star weightlifter and Tokyo Olympics silver medallist, won the Gold medal at the 2025 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships held in Ahmedabad.
- She lifted a total of 193 kg (84 kg snatch + 109 kg clean & jerk), setting new Commonwealth Championship records in snatch, clean & jerk, and overall total in the women’s 48 kg category.
- This victory not only gave her the top podium finish but also ensured her direct qualification for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
