PM Modi Chairs 10th NITI Aayog Governing Council Meeting
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the 10th Governing Council Meeting of NITI Aayog at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, with the theme “Viksit Rajya for Viksit Bharat @2047”, attended by CMs and LGs from 24 States and 7 UTs.

Govt Plans to Integrate Mission LiFE into National Climate Action Plan to Boost Sustainable Lifestyles

- Saudi Arabia launched TOURISE, a global platform aimed at creating a strong partnership between public and private sectors to shape the future of tourism over the next 50 years, announced by Minister of Tourism Ahmed Al-Khateeb.
- The platform, designed for year-round collaboration and anchored by a high-profile global advisory board, will hold its inaugural TOURISE Summit in Riyadh from November 11 to 13, featuring the TOURISE Awards.
- TOURISE seeks to combine innovation and experience, capital and creativity, to deliver practical and lasting solutions, with support from global tourism leaders including the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC).

RBI Fines Union Bank ₹63.6 Lakh, Lendbox ₹40 Lakh for Regulatory Violations

- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) imposed fines on Union Bank of India and Transactree Technologies Pvt Ltd for violating regulatory norms.
- Union Bank was fined ₹60 lakh for not transferring eligible funds to the Depositor Education and Awareness Fund and for collecting collateral on small agricultural loans, against RBI guidelines.
- Transactree Technologies Pvt Ltd was fined ₹40 lakh for non-compliance with P2P lending rules, including improper fund routing and lack of transparency with borrowers; RBI clarified these penalties relate only to regulatory lapses, not the validity of customer agreements.
RBI Forms New Payments Regulatory Board with Government Nominees, Replaces BPSS
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has notified the formation of a six-member Payments Regulatory Board (PRB), replacing the earlier five-member Board for Regulation and Supervision of Payment and Settlement Systems (BPSS); the new board includes three central government nominees for the first time.
- The PRB will be headed by the RBI Governor and will also include the Deputy Governor in charge of payment systems, one RBI-nominated official, and the three government-nominated members, all functioning as ex officio members.
- As per the ‘Payments Regulatory Board Regulations, 2025’, the PRB will meet at least twice a year and may also invite experts from fields like IT, law, and payment systems, with the Principal Legal Adviser of RBI as a permanent invitee.
- The move comes after prolonged debate over the control of payment system regulation, with the RBI earlier objecting to the idea of an external regulator, insisting that the PRB should remain within RBI and be headed by the Governor, maintaining RBI’s autonomy.
ZikZuk Gets RBI Nod to Launch Prepaid Wallets and Cards
- ZikZuk Receives In-Principle Approval from RBI for Issuance of Prepaid Payment Instruments (PPIs).
- ZikZuk, a Hyderabad-based fintech startup, has received in-principle authorisation from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to issue Prepaid Payment Instruments (PPI), marking its entry into India’s competitive digital payments ecosystem.
- With this approval, ZikZuk can now offer prepaid wallets and cards, enabling users to perform a variety of cashless transactions, including bill payments, online shopping, and in-store purchases, as well as UPI payments via third-party apps like Google Pay and Cred.

- Star Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra has clinched the silver medal at the 2025 Janusz Kusociński Memorial meet in Chorzów, Poland.
- The two-time Olympic medallist recorded a throw of 84.14 metres in challenging conditions on his sixth and final attempt. This marked his 22nd consecutive top-two finish since 2021.
- Germany’s Julian Weber won the Gold with a throw of 86.12 metres, while Anderson Peters of Grenada secured third place with a throw of 83.24 metres.
- Chopra’s next appearance will be at the Ostrava Golden Spike meeting in the Czech Republic on June 24.

26 May – International Day of the Markhor
- International Day of the Markhor is observed every year on 24th May to raise awareness about the conservation of the Markhor, the national animal of Pakistan and one of the world’s rarest wild goat species.
- The Markhor is found in the mountainous regions of Central and South Asia, including Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, and Tajikistan, and is listed as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List.
- The UN General Assembly proclaimed 24 May the International Day of the Markhor, A/RES/78/278, and we celebrated it for the first time in 2024.
