DPIIT Signs MoU with Ather Energy to Boost EV Manufacturing and Empower Startup Ecosystem

  • The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) signed an MoU with Ather Energy to boost clean mobility and EV manufacturing under the Build in Bharat initiative.
  • The collaboration will offer strategic mentorship, infrastructure support, and launch innovation programs like the Bharat Startup Grand Challenge for deep-tech startups in the EV sector.
  • The partnership also includes co-hosted talent development efforts, participation in startup events like Startup Mahakumbh, and on-ground exposure visits for startups.

CCI Approves Renault Group’s Acquisition of Stake in Renault Nissan Automotive India from Nissan

  • The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has approved the proposed acquisition of shareholding in Renault Nissan Automotive India Private Limited by Renault Group B.V. and its nominee Renault S.A.S., from Nissan Motor Company Ltd. and Nissan Overseas Investments B.V.
  • The acquisition includes equity shares and zero-coupon non-convertible redeemable preference shares, marking a restructuring move within the Renault-Nissan alliance in India.
  • Renault Group B.V. and Renault S.A.S., the acquirers, are engaged globally in the design, manufacture, and trading of vehicles and mobility services, and are both ultimately controlled by Renault S.A., forming a key part of the Renault Group.

Remona Evette Pereira Enters Golden Book of World Records with 170-Hour Bharatanatyam Performance

  • Remona Evette Pereira, a BA student from St. Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru, entered the Golden Book of World Records by performing Bharatanatyam non-stop for 170 hours.
  • The performance followed a strict format, allowing a 15-minute break every three hours, and began with a prayer to Lord Ganesha and concluded with a ballet and prayer to Goddess Durga, showcasing grace, expression, and classical discipline throughout.

Kaziranga Tiger Reserve Records Third-Highest Tiger Density in India with 148 Tigers in 2024

  • Kaziranga Tiger Reserve (KTR) has recorded the third-highest tiger density in India (18.65 tigers per 100 sq. km), following Bandipur (19.83) and Corbett (19.56), according to a 2024 report released on Global Tiger Day by Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma.
  • The 2024 tiger count in KTR stands at 148, a rise from 104 in 2022, with significant contributions from the first-ever sampling in Biswanath Wildlife Division, which reported 27 tigers.
  • Between Dec 2023 and April 2024, a 103-day camera trap survey captured over 4,000 tiger images, identifying 83 females, 55 males, and 10 unidentified gender tigers, using the spatially explicit capture-recapture method for accuracy.
  • Habitat expansion, including the addition of 200 sq. km (with 12.82 sq. km of encroachment-free land), under the Burhachapori-Laokhowa sanctuaries, enabled increased movement, breeding, and dispersal, playing a key role in tiger population growth.

Maharashtra to Observe August 7 as Sustainable Agriculture Day Honouring Dr. M.S. Swaminathan

  • The Maharashtra government has declared August 7 to be observed annually as “Sustainable Agriculture Day” in honor of Dr. M. S. Swaminathan’s birth centenary, recognizing his pivotal role in India’s Green Revolution.
  • Swaminathan’s breakthrough research in wheat and rice productivity significantly contributed to India’s food self-sufficiency and economic stability, earning him the Bharat Ratna in 2024 and international recognition.
  • To preserve his legacy, Dr. M.S. Swaminathan Bio-Happiness Centres will be established across all agricultural universities in Maharashtra.

Türkiye Unveils 970-kg GAZAP Bomb

  • Türkiye has developed its most powerful non-nuclear weapon yet — the 970-kg GAZAP bomb, designed to disperse 10.16 fragment explosions per meter for maximum destruction.
  • The GAZAP bomb was created by the National Defense Ministry’s R&D center and can be deployed from F-16 fighter jets.
  • Türkiye also unveiled the NEB-2 Ghost, a next-generation bunker-buster bomb, during the IDEF 2025 defense fair in Istanbul.

Statue of Maharshi Valmiki Unveiled in Italy Under ICCR’s Global Ramayana Initiative

  • A statue of Maharshi Valmiki, the Sanskrit author of the Ramayana, was unveiled in Camporotondo, Italy, by Indian Ambassador Vani Rao and Mayor Massimiliano Micucci, as part of a cultural outreach by the Indian government.
  • The event was organized under the ICCR’s “Connecting the World through Ramayana” initiative, with participation from the Deputy Chief of Mission Amararam Gurjar and members of the Indian diaspora, including the Balmiki community.

Unclaimed deposits with banks stand at Rs 67,003 cr, SBI and ICICI top list: Govt in Parliament

  • As of June 30, 2025, unclaimed bank deposits in India totaled ₹67,003 crore, with public sector banks accounting for ₹58,330.26 crore and private sector banks holding ₹8,673.72 crore, as per RBI data shared in Parliament.
  • State Bank of India (SBI) topped the list of public sector banks with the highest unclaimed deposits at ₹19,329.92 crore, while ICICI Bank led private lenders with ₹2,063.45 crore in unclaimed funds.
  • The government clarified that it has no plans to introduce Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) for Virtual Digital Assets (VDAs), and the RBI has issued warnings regarding the financial and legal risks associated with cryptocurrencies.

IMF Upgrades India’s Growth Forecast to 6.4% for 2025 and 2026

  • IMF has revised India’s GDP growth forecast upward to 6.4% for both 2025 and 2026, citing a more favourable external environment compared to its April 2025 estimates of 6.2% and 6.3% respectively.
  • India retains its title as the world’s fastest-growing major economy, with financial year-based projections at 6.7% for 2025 and 6.4% for 2026.
  • Global growth is also expected to improve, with IMF raising the world economic outlook to 3.0% for 2025 and 3.1% for 2026, while China is projected at 4.8% and 4.2%, and the US at 1.9% and 2.

DRDO Successfully Conducts Two Consecutive Flight‑Tests of Indigenous Pralay Missile

  • DRDO successfully conducted two consecutive flight-tests of the Pralay missile, from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island, Odisha, as part of User Evaluation Trials to validate its full range capability.
  • Pralay is an indigenously developed quasi-ballistic missile powered by solid propellant and equipped with advanced guidance and navigation systems, capable of carrying multiple warhead types against varied targets.
  • The missile system was developed by Research Centre Imarat with collaboration from several DRDO labs and partners like Bharat Dynamics Limited, Bharat Electronics Limited, other industries, and MSMEs; the trials were also witnessed by Indian Army, Air Force, and industry representatives.

Tejaswin Shankar Sets New National Decathlon Record with 7,826 Points at Poland Meet

  • Tejaswin Shankar, 26, set a new national decathlon record for India by scoring 7,826 points and finishing fourth at the Wieslaw Czapiewski Memorial 2025 in Poland, surpassing his previous best of 7,666 points from the 2022 Asian Games.
  • The event was won by Czech athlete Ondrej Kopecky, who set a meet record with 8,254 points, followed by Vilem Strasky (Czechia) and Risto Lillemets (Estonia) in second and third positions respectively.

Oscar Piastri Wins 2025 Belgian Grand Prix

  • Oscar Piastri clinched his sixth win of the 2025 season by winning the Belgian Grand Prix, outperforming his McLaren teammate Lando Norris in a rain-delayed race.
  • Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc secured third place, while Max Verstappen (Red Bull) and George Russell (Mercedes) completed the top five finishers.

  • The day was established in 2010 at the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit, where 13 tiger-range countries committed to doubling the global tiger population by 2022 under the TX2 goal.
  • The day aims to spread awareness about the declining tiger population and the urgent need for their conservation.
