NCERT Granted Deemed University Status Under Distinct Category by Education Ministry
- Ministry of Education, on the advice of University Grants Commission, has granted “deemed to be university” status (under a distinct category) to the National Council of Educational Research and Training.
- The approval followed evaluation by a UGC Expert Committee, and NCERT has been directed to start research, doctoral (PhD), and innovative academic programmes.
- Established in 1961, NCERT is an autonomous body that focuses on school education reforms, research, and development of textbooks and academic resources.
7 Railway Stations Shifted to South Coast Railway Zone in Visakhapatnam
- Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu informed that 7 railway stations have been transferred from the East Coast Railway Zone to the South Coast Railway Zone headquartered in Visakhapatnam.
- These stations are located between Ichchapuram and Palasa under the Khurda Division, improving administrative alignment in the region.
Deendayal Port Reclaims Top Spot Among India’s Major Ports with Record Cargo Handling in FY 2025–26
- Deendayal Port Authority has regained the top position among India’s major ports in FY 2025–26 by handling a record 160.11 million tonnes (MT) of cargo.
- It surpassed Paradip Port Authority, which handled 156.45 MT, and registered a 7% growth over FY 2024–25.
- Located on the Gulf of Kutch in Gujarat, the port (formerly Kandla Port Trust) is one of India’s oldest and most strategically important ports.
Telangana Launches Bhu Bharati Portal, Replaces Dharani for Land Records Management
- Government of Telangana has launched the Bhu Bharati portal, an integrated land record management system aimed at simplifying land registration and related services.
- The new portal replaces the earlier Dharani portal, improving transparency and efficiency in land record management.

- Bharti Airtel has crossed 650 million global subscribers, becoming the 2nd largest telecom operator globally by mobile user base (as per GSMA Intelligence).
- The company operates across India and Africa, with over 368 million users in India and 179 million users across 14 African countries, under the leadership of Sunil Bharti Mittal.
- Globally, telecom rankings are largely dominated by Chinese firms, with China Mobile leading with 1+ billion subscribers, while Airtel now holds the second position worldwide.
Thailand to Host IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings 2026 After 35 Years in Bangkok
- Thailand will host the IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings from 12–18 October 2026 in Bangkok at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center.
- The country is returning as host after 35 years, having last hosted the meetings in 1991.

IRDAI Retains LIC, New India Assurance & GIC as D-SIIs for FY 2025–26
- Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India has identified LIC, New India Assurance, and GIC as Domestic Systemically Important Insurers (D-SIIs) for FY 2025–26.
- The D-SII list remains unchanged compared to the previous financial year.
- D-SIIs are insurers with large size, high market importance, and strong domestic & global interconnectedness.
- Their failure could disrupt the financial system; hence, their continuous functioning is crucial for economic stability and insurance services availability.
RBI Approves Emirates NBD to Acquire Up to 74% Stake in RBL Bank, Paving Way for Foreign Bank Status
- Reserve Bank of India has approved Emirates National Bank of Dubai to acquire up to 74% stake in RBL Bank, potentially converting it into a foreign bank.
- The approval (granted on April 1, 2026, valid for one year) requires ENBD to hold at least 51% shareholding, while its voting rights are capped at 26% under the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.
- ENBD, the second-largest bank in UAE, had earlier (Oct 2025) proposed acquiring a 60% stake for ₹26,853 crore, marking a major foreign investment in India’s banking sector.
UPI Hits 22.64 Billion Transactions in March 2026
- Unified Payments Interface recorded 64 billion transactions in March 2026, reflecting strong growth in digital payments.
- Data shared by the National Payments Corporation of India showed an increase from 20.39 billion transactions in February to 22.64 billion in March 2026.
- Total transaction value rose to ₹29.53 lakh crore in March, up from ₹26.84 lakh crore in February, indicating higher economic activity.
- The average daily transactions reached 730 million, with an average daily value of ₹95,243 crore in March 2026.

- GE Aerospace delivered the 6th F404-IN20 engine to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the Tejas LCA MK1A.
- The delivery took place in the United States, and the engine will be transported to India.
- This is part of a 2021 deal under which GE Aerospace will supply 99 F404-IN20 engines to HAL.

INS Sunayna Flagged Off from Mumbai for IOS SAGAR Mission with 16-Nation Participation
- The Indian Navy flagged off INS Sunayna as part of the IOS SAGAR mission from Mumbai amid tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.
- The vessel carries Indian Navy personnel along with representatives from 16 foreign countries, highlighting international maritime cooperation.
- The mission will include port calls at Colombo, Phuket, Jakarta, Singapore, Chittagong, Yangon, and Male, before concluding at Kochi.
- The ship was flagged off by Sanjay Seth in the presence of Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi at the Naval Dockyard.
India’s Defence Exports Hit Record ₹38,424 Crore in FY26 with 62.66% Surge
- India’s defence exports reached a record ₹38,424 crore in FY 2025–26, marking a 62.66% increase from ₹23,622 crore in the previous year, as per the Ministry of Defence.
- Both sectors contributed significantly, with DPSUs accounting for 54.84% and the private sector contributing 45.16% of total exports.
- Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) saw a 151% surge in exports, while the private sector grew by 14%, reflecting strong and sustained growth in India’s defence industry.
