Oxford’s Bodleian Libraries Launch UK Tour of ‘Shikshapatri’ on 200th Anniversary

  • The Bodleian Libraries at the University of Oxford have launched a nationwide UK tour of the Shikshapatri to mark its 200th anniversary.
  • The Shikshapatri is one of the most significant and rare Hindu scriptures. Shikshapatri, which means a letter of teachings, was composed in 1826 at Vadtal in Gujarat by Sahajanand Swami.
  • Organised in collaboration with leaders of the Swaminarayan faith, the tour will showcase the manuscript in major temples, offering thousands the chance to view the sacred text that emphasises ethical living and spiritual guidance.
  • Written on what is described as the fifth day of the bright half of the month,” the manuscript contains 212 Sanskrit verses summarising key teachings from Hindu scriptures.

Uttar Pradesh Launches ‘Safe Mobility Program’ to Empower Women and Ensure Safe Transport

  • The Uttar Pradesh Government has launched the ‘Safe Mobility Program’ to promote women empowerment and create employment opportunities.
  • The scheme trains women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to become e-rickshaw drivers, ensuring safer and more accessible transport for women and girls.
  • Around 1,000 e-rickshaws will be provided and operated exclusively by female drivers, targeting safe travel for school-going girls and working women.

Odisha Launches ‘Mukhyamantri Annapurna Yojana’ to Strengthen Food Security

  • The Odisha Government has launched the Mukhyamantri Annapurna Yojana (MAPY) to strengthen food security for over 10 million vulnerable families.
  • Under the scheme, beneficiaries covered by the National Food Security Act (NFSA) and the State Food Security Scheme will receive an additional 5 kg of free rice per person per month, increasing total allocation to 10 kg.
  • The scheme, approved under Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, will be implemented from 2026–27 and is one of the largest state-funded expansions of the Public Distribution System (PDS) in India.

IRDAI Grants R1 Approval to M Pallonji Group for New General Insurance Venture

  • Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India has granted R1 approval to the M Pallonji Group for launching a new general insurance venture in partnership with Federal Bank and Divya Sehgal.
  • The proposed venture will have a 51% stake held by M Pallonji Group, with additional funding support from Federal Bank and family offices, and will be promoted by Mehli Mistry and Pheroze Mistry.
  • Under IRDAI’s approval process, R1 stage assesses business plan, capital commitment, and governance structure, followed by R2 (capital readiness) and R3 (final approval).
  • The company is expected to start operations with an initial capital of around ₹200 crore, amid growing competition in the sector with new entrants like Kiwi General Insurance entering the market.

RBI Cancels Licence of Shirpur Merchants’ Co-operative Bank Over Financial Weakness

  • Reserve Bank of India has cancelled the licence of Shirpur Merchants’ Co-operative Bank due to inadequate capital and poor earning prospects, effective April 6, 2026.
  • The bank has ceased all banking operations, and authorities have been directed to initiate its winding up and appoint a liquidator.
  • Depositors are eligible to receive up to ₹5 lakh as insurance cover from Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation.
  • Around 99.7% of depositors are expected to get their full deposits back under the DICGC insurance scheme.
