♦DST rolls out integrated geospatial platform “Sahyog”

• The Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, has rolled out an Integrated Geospatial Platform known as “SAHYOG”.
• Benefit: This integrated geospatial platform aims to help in decision making during the present COVID-19 outbreak and support with area-specific strategies in order to handle the socio-economic impact in the recovery phase. The mobile application SAHYOG will also complement the “AAROGYA-SETU” mobile application for Contact tracing, Public awareness, and Self-assessment objectives.

♦Jim Corbett becomes India’s first quarantine facility for animals

• India’s oldest National Park Jim Corbett, situated in Uttarakhand’s Paurhi Garhwal region, has built isolation wards for animals.
• K. Tiwari, Warden, Jim Corbett National Park, said, “At least 10 quarantine centres are being prepared within the premises to contain animals. We are also holding talks on converting the cages built for wild animals into a quarantine facility.”

♦DRDO develops kiosk for Covid-19 sample collection

• The Defence Research and Development Laboratory, Hyderabad has added another product to the portfolio of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) to combat the coronavirus by developing the ‘COVID-19 Sample Collection Kiosk’ (COVSACK).
• The COVSACK is a kiosk through which healthcare workers can take coronavirus samples from suspected infected patients.

♦Economic growth may fall to 1.1% in FY21, says SBI report

• India’s GDP growth may slide to 1.1 per cent in the current financial year, on account of the impact of coronavirus outbreak on the economy, a research report by SBI.
• The economic growth rate during 2019-20 is estimated to come down to 4.1 per cent from 5 per cent projected by several agencies before the outbreak of deadly virus.
• According to the SBI Ecowrap report, the extension of the lockdown would result in economic loss of Rs 21.1 trillion or 6 per cent of the nominal Gross Value Added (GVA).

♦BSNL, SBI partner to launch UPI-based payment platform Bharat InstaPay

• State-owned BSNL in partnership with State Bank of India launched a UPI-based payment platform, Bharat InstaPay.
• According to BSNL officials, the new payment facility developed by the company will enable its partners, especially prepaid sellers, to buy service immediately for sale.
• “This digital payment platform is an initiative of BSNL powered by SBI, which shall enable all types of channel partners of BSNL for doing all their payment transactions digitally on a 24-by-7 basis,” BSNL said in a statement.

♦Ajay Mahajan appointed MD & CEO of Care Ratings

• CARE Ratings on 15^th April announce Ajay Mahajan has been appointed as Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of the company for five years commencing from April 15, 2020.
• The Board of Directors of the credit rating agency, at its meeting on 15^th April, made the appointment, based on the recommendation of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee of the Board.
• About Ajay Mahajan: Mahajan started his career with Bank of America in 1990 and went on to become MD & Country Head of Global Markets Group.

• Digital payments major Paytm on 15^th April announce it has named Vineet Arora as the managing director and chief executive officer of Paytm General Insurance
• The appointment, which is subject to regulatory approvals, is a step for Paytm to further its journey into the insurance sector with an immediate focus on General Insurance.
