♦Ek Mask-Anek Zindagi’ drive begins in MP
- Madhya Pradesh Urban Development and Housing Minister Bhupendra Singh on 1st August launched the ‘Ek Mask – Anek Zindagi’ campaign via videoconferencing from his residence and flagged off promotional chariots of numerous urban bodies.

♦IOCL To Invest Rs 13,805 Cr To Set Up New Plant In Odisha
- Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) will invest Rs 13,805 crore to set up a plant in Odisha’s Paradip to manufacture raw materials for the textile sector.
- The project is expected to be completed by 2024.The project will generate approximately five million man-days of employment over the three-year plant construction period.
- The petrochemicals complex will have a PX production capacity of 800,000 tonne per annum, which would be the feedstock for the manufacturing of PTA. The capacity of PTA production would be 1 200,000 tonne per annum.

♦Nitin Gadkari inaugurated upstream carriageway of Mahatma Gandhi bridge in Bihar
- Road, Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari inaugurated the upstream carriageway of Mahatma Gandhi bridge over river Ganga in Bihar through video conference.
- Over 5.5 kilometres long, the four lane bridge lies on NH-19 between Patna and Hajipur.
♦NASA Astronauts returns safely after successful Demo-2 mission
- Two US astronauts, Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley, returned from the International Space Station (ISS) on 2 August 2020. The Crew Dragon was designed and operated by Space-X. It is being used for this flight test can stay in orbit about 110 days.
- NASA’s SpaceX Demo-2 test flight was the first crewed flight to launch from the US since 2011. The Demo-2 mission is part of NASA’s Commercial Crew Program.
- About CCP: The Commercial Crew Program of NASA has worked with several American aerospace industry companies with an aim to facilitate the development of US human spaceflight systems since 2010.

♦GST collections stand at Rs 87,422 crore in July
- The gross GST revenue collected in the month of July this year is Rs. 87, 422 crore of which CGST is Rs. 16, 147 crore, SGST is Rs. 21, 418 crore and IGST is Rs. 42, 592 crore.
- The revenues for the last month were higher than the current month.

♦HP appoints Ketan Patel as India MD
- Computer electronics major HP has appointed Ketan Patel as the Managing Director of the ‘Greater India’ region and he will be responsible for India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
- Patel replaces Vinay Awasthi who is moving to a new role as Head of Print Operations for Supply Chain.

♦Lewis Hamilton won British Grand Prix 2020
- Lewis Hamilton won a dramatic British Grand Prix at Silverstone despite suffering a burst tyre during the final lap. The British driver limped across the line for a memorable victory ahead of Max Verstappen after a remarkable finish to the race saw both dominant Mercedes cars suffer punctures.

♦World Breastfeeding Week 2020 – August 1 to 7
- World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated annually in the first week of August (from 1st of August to 7th of August) around 120 countries in the World. The day is celebrated to encourage breastfeeding and improve the babies’ health around the world.
- Theme 2020: “Support Breast feeding for a healthier planet”.
♦Sanskrit Diwas 2020
- Considered to be one of the oldest languages in the world, Sanskrit has a day dedicated to its celebration. Every year, Sanskrit Diwas, also known as ‘Vishvasamskritadinam’ is celebrated around this time of the year.
- According to the Hindu calendar, it is celebrated on the poornima (full moon) of the ‘Shravana‘ month. The day promotes the revival of this ancient Indian language. This year, it is being celebrated August 3.

♦Sahitya Akademi Awardee Sa. Kandasamy passed away
- Famous Tamil writer and documentary filmmaker Sa Kandasamy passed away in a private hospital here on 31st July due to heart attack. He was 81.
