Government of India announced PM Vishwakarma Scheme

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced to launch the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Scheme during his Independence Day speech. Union Cabinet has approved the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Scheme with the budgetary allocation of ₹13,000 crore.

Purpose of the scheme:

The scheme is launched with an aim of giving loans on liberal terms to the local workers who drive majority of the rural economy and provide support to people with traditional skills.

During the launch of the scheme, Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that the scheme will benefit around 30 lakh craftsmen families.

The PM Vishwakarma Scheme is going to cover 18 traditional trades in the first instance.

The scheme will strengthen and nurture the ‘Guru-Shishya parampara’ or family-based practice of traditional skills by artisans and craftsmen working with their hands and tools.

Advantages of scheme:

Under this scheme carpenter, boat maker, blacksmith, locksmith, potter, goldsmith, barber, tailor, mason, garland maker etc. will be covered.

There will PM Vishwakarma certificate and ID card will be provided to artisans and craftspeople for recognition.

Features of the scheme:

Under the scheme a provisional credit support of up to ₹1 lakh and ₹2 lakh in first and second trance respectively will be availed with a concessional interest rate of 5%.

Under the scheme skill upgradation, incentive for toolkit as well as digital transactions and marketing support will be rendered.

The program of skilling will be taken place at both basic and advanced types and during the training participants will get a stipend of ₹500 per day.

Under the scheme up to ₹15,000 will be given to each beneficiary to buy modern tools.

The Vishwakarma scheme is integrated with domestic and global value chains with an aim of improving the quality and the reach of products and services of artisans and craftsmen.
