India’s first vertical wind tunnel inaugurated for Indian Army
A state-of-the-art wind tunnel, a first-of-its-kind in the Indian Army, that offers a controlled environment to enable military trainees to enhance their skills by simulating real-life free fall conditions, has been inaugurated at a training school in Himachal Pradesh.
Indian Army’s first Vertical Wind Tunnel (VWT) has been inaugurated virtually by Army Chief Gen Manoj Pande.
The wind tunnel at the Special Forces Training School (SFTS) at Bakloh is set to refine the Combat Free Fall (CFF) skills of armed forces personnel.
The vertical wind tunnel makes a column of air at specific velocities, orchestrating different CFF conditions. The system will bid a controlled environment; enable trainees to enhance their skills by simulating real-life freefall conditions.
Benefits of VWT:
The VWT’s integration into the CFF training curriculum at SFTS (Special Forces Training School) gets forth numerous pay-offs. The system feigns varied free fall scenarios which is crucial in assessing individual reactions to numerous situations in an airborne operating environment.
It prevents potential instability in the air and even it assists during parachute deployment to trainees to get used to free-fall conditions.
The VWT is not only give advantages for beginners but also an exceptional resource for delivering advanced training to seasoned free-fallers and CFF instructors.
Installation of the first VWT is the commitment to the current fly given to modernising the training infrastructure in the Indian Army.
