The biggest day of Indian Railways with redevelopment of Rs.24,470 crore

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has recently laid the foundation stone for the redevelopment of 508 railway stations in the country.

The cost behind redevelopment project for stations is estimated at a cost of Rs 24,470 crore. The main aim of redevelopment project is to increase passenger capacity, improve employment generation, and act as city centers.

State wise stations:

According to the ministry of railways, there are more than 500 stations are spread across 27 states and union territories, including 55 each in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, 49 in Bihar, 44 in Maharashtra, 37 in West Bengal, 34 in Madhya Pradesh, 32 in Assam, 25 in Odisha, 22 in Punjab, 21 each in Gujarat and Telangana, 20 in Jharkhand, 18 each in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, 15 in Haryana and 13 in Karnataka, among others.

Benefits of redevelopment:

The redevelopment will furnish modern passenger amenities along with assuring well-designed traffic circulation, inter-modal integration and signage for the guidance of passengers.

As per the Ministry of Railways, the design of the station buildings will be planned by local culture, heritage and architecture.

Railway stations are the heart of cities across the country. That’s why it’s important that railway stations are modernized and the area is utilized in an optimum manner.

Amrit Bharat Station Scheme:

The redevelopment is planned under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.

Amrit Bharat Station scheme had been conceptualized earlier this year with a target to modernize over 1,300 stations.

Union minister of railways Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that they have an aspiration for render every citizen world class rail services and “dignity of travel”.

Comparison with developed nations:

In some last years, India has made more rail tracks than the entire rail networks of countries like South Korea, New Zealand, and Australia in the previous year alone.

With official information received, locomotive production has raised by nine times and LHB coach production has increased by five times in last decade.

Green Initiative by Indian Railways:

Central Government has an aim to achieve a target of 100 percent electric trains by the end of current financial year.

It means all trains in India will be in operation in few years.
