The government announced the appointment of Lt. Gen. Upendra Dwivedi as next Army Chief
The government has recently decided the appointment of Lt. Gen. Upendra Dwivedi as the next Army Chief of India took over from Gen. Manoj Pande on June 30.
Lt. Gen. Upendra Dwivedi currently is serving as the vice Chief of the Army staff. He will serve the country as the next Army Chief with effect from 30th June 2024.
The term of Manoj Pande was about to end on 31st May but has been given to one month extension till 30th June 2024.

- Gen. Upendra Dwivedi was born on 1st July 1964.
- On 15th December 1984, he was commissioned into the Jammu & Kashmir Rifles infantry of the Army.
- One of the interesting facts about him is that he is also an alumnus of the Sainik School, Rewa.
- He has experience of leading 18 Jammu & Kashmir Rifles Regiment and 26 Sector Assam Rifles Brigade.
- He also served as Inspector General of Assam Rifles (East).

- General Manoj Pande is the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of the Indian Army and is going to be Retired on 30th june 2024.
- He was born on May 6, 1962, in Nagpur, Maharashtra, India.
- He is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy (NDA), Pune, and the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun.
- Prior to becoming the Chief of Army Staff, he served as the Vice Chief of Army Staff
- He also served as Commanded the Andaman and Nicobar Command (the only tri-service command of the Indian Armed Forces).
- He also held the position of General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) Eastern Command.
