India, Malaysia Ink Agreements to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

Two held after Haryana swing collapse; injured to receive ₹1 lakh compensation
- A day after an on-duty police Inspector died and 12 others were injured in an accident at the Surajkund fair in Faridabad, Haryana Police arrested two people on Sunday. One of those arrested is the owner of the company that installed the giant swing.
- Police said that six injured persons, including four who were admitted to the Civil Hospital, have now been discharged.
- A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to conduct a detailed and complete investigation into the incident.
- The accident took place on Saturday evening when one end of the ‘Top Spin’ swing, which was carrying more than two dozen people, suddenly came loose and crashed to the ground.
- The deceased Inspector, Jagdish Prasad, aged 58, was due to retire in March.
- He suffered serious injuries when the other end of the swing fell on him as he rushed forward to help rescue injured people.
- Jagdish Prasad was cremated on Sunday in his native village in Uttar Pradesh with full state honours.
- The two arrested persons were identified as Mohammad Shakir, the owner of Himachal Fun Care Company, and his employee, Nitesh.
- Police said that the role of other people linked to the incident is still being investigated.
- A case has been registered under several sections of the law, including culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
- The SIT set up to investigate the case is a three-member team led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime).
- Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced that a permanent government job would be given to a family member of the deceased Inspector.

- Lawyer Thanya Nathan C. is set to create history in Kerala by becoming the first visually challenged woman judge in the State.
- Nathan, who is completely blind, secured the first rank in the merit list of persons with benchmark disabilities in the recent judicial service examination held for the selection of Civil Judges (Junior Division) in the Kerala Judicial Service.
- Joyson Sajan, a candidate with cerebral palsy, secured the second rank in the same category.
- A historic judgment delivered in 2025 by a Supreme Court Bench consisting of Justices J.B. Pardiwala and R. Mahadevan played an important role in this achievement.
- The judgment clearly stated that visually impaired candidates cannot be considered “not suitable” for judicial service and that they have the right to take part in the selection process for judicial posts.
- This Supreme Court decision opened the doors for Ms. Nathan to enter the judiciary.
- Judicial sources said that this is probably the first time a visually challenged candidate has passed the judicial service examination in Kerala.
