Powerful blast in capital leaves at least 9 dead

  • A strong explosion in a slow-moving car near Delhi’s Red Fort killed at least nine people and injured more than 20 others on Monday. The blast caused a big alert across the country, and many agencies have started investigating it.
  • The car was found to be registered under a person who was caught in Gurugram, Haryana. Police have started checking if the blast has any connection with terror groups or criminal networks.
  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that every possible reason behind the blast is being checked. He confirmed that the explosion happened around 7 p.m., which damaged many vehicles nearby and injured several people walking on the road.
  • Shah also said that CCTV footage from nearby areas is being checked. He added that all agencies are working together seriously and that more details will be shared after the investigation.
  • Later, Shah visited Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital to meet the injured people. He said that experts from FSL (Forensic Science Lab) and NSG (National Security Guard) are testing samples from the site and that no reason is being ruled out yet.
  • The blast was so powerful that many bodies were burnt beyond recognition. People said they heard the loud sound of the explosion from as far as three kilometres away in central Delhi.
  • Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha said that a slow-moving car stopped near a red light outside the Red Fort at 6:52 p.m. when the explosion happened, badly damaging other vehicles nearby.
  • He confirmed that all major agencies, including the Forensic Science team and the National Investigation Agency (NIA), were at the scene collecting evidence and checking the strength of the explosion.
  • Senior officials said that the blast caused fires in many parked vehicles, which made the situation worse and increased the number of casualties. It also created panic among the people, leading to total chaos in the area.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief for the families of the victims on X (Twitter). He prayed for a quick recovery of the injured and said the Red Fort incident was deeply tragic.
  • Delhi Fire Services said that they got the first emergency call at 6:55 p.m. Their team reached quickly to control the fire and helped police and rescuers deal with the burnt cars and injured people.
  • A police source said that the person inside the car also died in the blast, but his identity was not yet known. By late Monday, only two of the nine people who died had been officially identified.
  • Eyewitness Mohsin Ali said that the explosion burnt several people standing near the Red Fort gate. He said thick smoke made it very hard to see, and rescuers had to use e-rickshaws to carry injured people away.

2,900 kg of explosive material seized, 7 held as terror module uncovered in J&K

  • Jammu and Kashmir Police have broken up a big terror network that was working across many States and even with foreign links. They arrested seven people and seized 2,900 kg of materials used to make bombs in the past 15 days, officials said on Monday.
  • Police in Srinagar said the group was linked to the terror outfits Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind. The network showed that local radicals were working closely with handlers sitting across the border.
  • The investigation also found a “white-collar” terror network — educated people like professionals and students who were secretly helping the terrorists. They were in online contact with people in Pakistan and other countries.
  • Among those arrested are two doctors — Muzammil Ahmad Ganaie, also called Musaib, from Koil Pulwama, and Dr. Adeel from Wanpora Kulgam. Both were allegedly involved in planning terror attacks.
  • The others caught are Arif Nisar Dar, Yasir-ul-Ashraf, and Maqsood Ahmad Dar from Nowgam, Srinagar; Zameer Ahmad Ahanger, also called Mutlasha, from Ganderbal; and Irfan Ahmad, a maulvi (priest) from Shopian.
  • Ganaie, who is 32 years old, was working as a teacher at Al Falah University in Faridabad, Haryana, and was living near Delhi before being arrested. He was caught through a joint operation by J&K and Haryana Police.
  • Faridabad Police Commissioner Satender Kumar Gupta said that Ganaie was arrested ten days ago from a rented house, where police found bomb-making chemicals and weapon parts.
  • The police recovered 350 kg of explosive material, believed to be ammonium nitrate, kept in eight big and four small suitcases. They also found an assault rifle, 20 timers, batteries, and heavy metal parts.
  • Adeel was caught in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, which shows that the terror network was spread across several States.
  • The investigation began after Jaish posters were seen in Bunpora, Nowgam, on October 19. These posters contained threats and hate messages against Indian security forces.
  • A Central government official said that recruitment of these operatives and planning for attacks had been going on for nearly two years, showing how deep and long-running the network was.
  • Among the items seized were common materials like urea, which can also be used to make explosives, according to an officer involved in the case.
  • A fake pamphlet found in Srinagar led police to Irfan Ahmad, the imam from Shopian. His questioning helped police catch the six others in the group.
  • Police said human intelligence — people giving information on the ground — was very useful in catching Irfan Ahmad. More arrests and recoveries are expected as the operation continues.
  • The Urdu pamphlet had told locals not to help security forces and not to allow soldiers to sit in their shops or homes.
  • The overall operation helped police capture major members of the group and recover a huge stock of arms, ammunition, and explosives, officials confirmed.
  • Police have filed a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and other laws related to criminal conspiracy, threats to India’s sovereignty, and waging war against the nation under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

In the final phase today, Bihar voters will cast their votes in 122 constituencies

  • The second and last round of voting for the Bihar Assembly elections will be held on Tuesday across 122 constituencies in about 20 districts. A total of 1,302 candidates are contesting, and polling will also take place in Jharkhand’s Ghatshila.
  • According to the Election Commission, polling will happen at 45,399 booths across Bihar — 5,326 in towns and 40,073 in villages — for this final phase.
  • More than half of the total voters, about 2.28 crore, are aged between 30 and 60 years. Around 7.69 lakh voters are between 18 and 19 years old, and 1.75 crore are women.
  • In the first round, which was held on November 6 in 121 constituencies across 18 districts, Bihar saw its highest-ever voter turnout at 64.66%, setting a new record.
  • This last phase covers areas in Magadh, Mithilanchal, Seemanchal, Shahabad, and Tirhut regions — showing how widespread the voting is across Bihar.
  • Out of the 122 seats, 101 are general, 19 are reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC), and two for Scheduled Tribes (ST), as per Election Commission data.
  • In the 2020 election, the NDA did not perform well in Magadh and Shahabad regions, winning only eight of the 48 seats there, which makes this year’s contest tougher.
  • Back in 2020, NDA won 66 seats and the Grand Alliance (Mahagathbandhan) won 49. This time, there are friendly fights between alliance partners in 11 constituencies.
  • In this round, BJP is contesting 53 seats, JD(U) 44, LJP (Ram Vilas) 15, HAM(S) six, and RLM four — this is how seats are divided within the NDA.
  • On the other side, the Grand Alliance has RJD contesting 71 seats, Congress 37, CPI(ML)-Liberation six, CPI five, and VIP eight, making 127 INDIA bloc candidates in 122 constituencies.
  • This last phase is especially important for HAM(S) leader Jitan Ram Manjhi and RLM leader Upendra Kushwaha, as their family members are contesting in key seats.
  • Snehlata Kushwaha is contesting from Sasaram, Deepa Kumari from Imamganj, and her mother Jyoti Devi from Barachatti — showing strong family involvement for both Kushwaha and Manjhi.
  • Bihar Congress president Rajesh Ram’s political future will also be decided now, as he is contesting from Kutumba in Aurangabad district.
  • The Seemanchal region is very important for Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM, which has fielded 12 of its 28 candidates there, including state president Akhtarul Iman from Amour.
  • AIMIM had won five seats in the last election, and this round will decide if it can repeat or improve that performance.
  • Other key candidates include LJP (RV) president Raju Tiwari from Govindganj, HAM(S) state president Anil Kumar from Tikari, and former Speaker Uday Narayan Choudhary.
  • Former Deputy Chief Minister Tarkeshwar Prasad is also contesting, making this round very high-profile, with several big political names in the fray.
  • The results of 12 Ministers in Nitish Kumar’s government will also depend on this round of voting, making it an important day politically.
  • Important among these ministers are Energy Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav from Supaul, Industry Minister Nitish Mishra from Jhanjharpur, and Transport Minister Sheela Mandal from Phulparas.
