Manipur came into picture again
- It has been three years since the military coup the government and usurped severe repression in order to suppress the demand of democracy or granting power to any ethnic groups in Myanmar. The situation in Myanmar still makes it a civil war prone country.
- Witnessing heavy bombing and displacement many citizens of Myanmar especially those from minorities have come to neighboring countries like India to seek refuge.
- To avoid the impact of the junta’s violent campaigns,many people from Myanmar headed to Mizoram and Manipur in India to take shelter.
- People from Myanmar to Mizoram have been treated favorably by the government but the situation in Manipur is not the same.
- The Manipur government has continuously blamed that those refugees are related to cross border drug trade.
- Even the Manipur government blamed the refugees fleeing Myanmar and the humanitarian policies of Mizoram for being the cause of the ethnic violence between kuki Zo community and Meitei community in Manipur last year.
- The Chief Minister of Manipur also stated that there are around 5457 illegal migrants in Manipur.
- As the consequences of the Manipur Government action on illegal migrants and poppy cultivation, Manipur has faced severe cruelty and loss.
- The approach of the government needs to be changed in order to treat the Conflict otherwise the situation will remain the same.
