For a banking aspirant it becomes necessary to read editorials for vocabulary. In this article we are going to discuss the points of today’s editorials with practice questions and important vocabs.

Climate crisis and gender neutrality

  • Women and girls are more vulnerable to climate crises and experience higher health risks. As per a report by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), women and children around the world are 14 times more likely to face the adverse effects of the climate crisis(death) than men.
  • There are some factors which contribute to the higher health risks to women due to climate crisis such as poverty, existing roles, responsibilities and cultural norms.
  • The Supreme Court of India has stated that to be free from the adverse effects of climate change is a right of people, however the right to clean the environment is already a fundamental right.
  • Climate crisis factors related to Agriculture that impacts women more than men are food insecurity, nutritional deficiency, domestic work burden, worse health, intimate partner violence, income uncertainties, impact on their mental and physical Wellbeing and prevalence of girl child marriages.
  • According to the NFHS 5 data, more than half of the number of women and children living in Indian districts which are vulnerable to hydromet disasters(around 75%) were at high risk as compared to men.
  • Climate crisis factors related to extreme climate events hamper women and children’s health. Some impacts are increasing the risk of pattern birth, eclampsia, respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, diseases due to pollution.
  • The government of India needs to take action to reduce the impact of prolonged heat on priority groups as per risks based.
  • Some effective solution to make the situation light are such as heat waves warnings, time change for the outdoor workers and school,cooling room in health institutions, public drinking water facilities, immediate treatments, development of a local plan to improve water access at village level, prioritization of actions, building the capability of panchayats and comprehensive and equitable approach.
