  • The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall in Prakasam, Nellore, Chittoor, Annamayya, Tirupati, and YSR Kadapa districts for Wednesday.
  • Orange alerts were issued for Bapatla, Anantapur, and Sri Sathya Sai districts due to expected rainfall.
  • A well-marked low-pressure area over the central part of the south Bay of Bengal is moving west-northwestward and may develop into a depression within the next 12 hours.

India and the U.S. finalize a $3.5 billion agreement for the acquisition of 31 armed drones

  • India and the U.S. finalized a $3.5-billion deal for 31 MQ-9B armed high-altitude long endurance (HALE) remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS), through the U.S. Foreign Military Sales program.
  • The Defence Ministry has announced that a contract has been signed for the Tri-Service acquisition of 31 MQ-9B SkyGuardian/SeaGuardian High-Altitude Long-Endurance (HALE) systems.
  • Another contract was signed with General Atomics Global India Pvt Ltd for performance-based logistics, including maintenance, repair, and overhaul of these RPAS within India.
  • The deal includes 170 AGM-114R Hellfire missiles, 16 M36E9 Hellfire captive air training missiles, 310 GBU-39B/B laser Small Diameter Bombs (SDB), and 8 GBU-39B/B LSDB guided test vehicles with live fuses.
  • The Cabinet Committee on Security recently approved the procurement of 15 Sea Guardians for the Indian Navy and 16 Sky Guardians, split equally between the Indian Army and Air Force.
