• The Supreme Court also expressed the disappointment towards the government’s behavior on this issue and its negligible attitude towards the company by turning a blind eye when the Patanjali Ayurveda was trying to claim its medicine a panacea for COVID 19 and it was a supremacy of violations.
• The Government did nothing and did not try to inform the citizens of the country that Coronil (medicine by Patanjali Ayurveda) is not a cure for COVID 19. The company claimed that Coronil could cure the COVID 19.
• Patanjali Ayurveda also organized a press conference to promote Coronil medicine and the presence of the then Union health Minister Harsh Vardhan and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari increased the credibility of the claims.
• The Patanjali Ayurveda also published many more misleading advertisements claiming that their medicines and products could cure many non communicable diseases.
• In November 2023, the Supreme Court threatened Patanjali’s co-founder Baba Ramdev to impose a penalty of ₹1 cr for misleading advertisements.
• But nothing happened and Patanjali Ayurveda on the next day held a press conference to defend its products.
• Despite receiving heat from the Supreme Court, the company maintained its ongoing behavior, and in the aftermath the Supreme Court has issued the contempt notice against misleading advertisements.
• The government’s favoritism and allowing commercial interest over the health safety of citizens can be very dangerous and harmful for public health safety.
