‘Vocabulary’
- Syllable (noun)
Meaning: the smallest amount or part imaginable (छोटा भाग)
Synonyms: little, damn, bit
Sentence: you’re not making a syllable of sense
- Grumpy (adj.)
Meaning: bad-tempered and irritable. (चिड़चिड़ा)
Synonyms: irritable, grouchy, fiery
Antonyms: friendly, affable, gregarious
Sentence: Don’t be so grumpy and cynical about it.
- Stingy (adj.)
Meaning: unwilling to give or spend; ungenerous. (कंजूस)
Synonyms: miserly, parsimonious, niggardly
Antonyms: generous, munificent
Sentence: She’s too stingy to give money to charity.
- Cull (noun)
Meaning: something separated from a group or lot for not being as good as the others (अस्वीकार)
Synonyms: discard, reject, throwaway
Antonyms: accepted, validation
Sentence: The unbruised apples will be packed in bags, and the culls will be used for cider.
- Hauling (verb)
Meaning: (of a person) pull or drag with effort or force. (ढोना)
Synonyms: pulling, dragging, towing
Sentence: He hauled his bike out of the shed.
- Duress (noun)
Meaning: threats, violence, constraints, or other action brought to bear on someone to do something against their will or better judgment. (दबाव)
Synonyms: coercion, compulsion, enforcement
Antonyms: agreement, consent, approval
Sentence: He signed the confession under duress.
- Heeded (verb)
Meaning: pay attention to; take notice of. (मान ली)
Synonyms: followed, noted, obeyed
Antonyms: ignored, disregarded, dismissed
Sentence: If he had only heeded my warnings, none of this would have happened.
- Eulogize (verb)
Meaning: praise highly in speech or writing. (स्तुति करना)
Synonyms: praise, hail, laud
Antonyms: dishonor, mortify, shame
Sentence: Critics everywhere have eulogized her new novel.
- Wayward (adj.)
Meaning: difficult to control or predict because of unusual or perverse behavior. (स्वच्छंद)
Synonyms: willful, self-willed, headstrong
Antonyms: obedient, docile, amiable
Sentence: This wayward tendency is a great drawback.
- Uproot (verb)
Meaning: to draw out by force or with effort (जड़ से उखाड़ना)
Synonyms: withdraw, remove, extract
Antonyms: install, insert implant
Sentence: We must uproot our bad habits.
