‘Vocabulary’
- Enervate (verb)
Meaning: cause (someone) to feel drained of energy or vitality; weaken. (कमज़ोर)
Synonyms: exhaust, tire, fatigue
Antonyms: strengthen, fortify, energize
Sentence: The hot sun enervated her to the point of collapse.
- Prim (adj.)
Meaning: stiffly formal and respectable; feeling or showing disapproval of anything regarded as improper. (नैतिक)
Synonyms: puritanical, proper, moral
Antonyms: permissive, improper, indecent
Sentence: A very prim and proper matron was in charge of the girls’ dorm.
- Vaunt (verb)
Meaning: boast about or praise (something), especially excessively. (अपनी बड़ाई करना)
Synonyms: boast, brag, pride
Antonyms: belittle, underrate
Sentence: Even the noblest of fellows have been known to vaunt a bit.
- Unscathed (adj.)
Meaning: without suffering any injury, damage, or harm. (अहानिकर)
Synonyms: unharmed, unhurt, uninjured
Antonyms: damaged, injured, hurt
Sentence: He escaped unscathed from the accident.
- Hale and Hearty (adj.)
Meaning: (of a person, especially an elderly one) strong and healthy. (चुस्त और तंदुरुस्त)
Synonyms: healthy, well, fit
Antonyms: ill, feeble, sick
Sentence: She was still hale and hearty in her nineties.
- Hanker (verb)
Meaning: feel a strong desire for or to do something. (लालायित होना)
Synonyms: yearn, crave, desire
Antonyms: abhor, abominate, despise
Sentence: What did you hanker after most when you were in prison?
- Startling (adj.)
Meaning: very surprising, astonishing, or remarkable. (चौंकाने)
Synonyms: surprising, astonishing, amazing
Antonyms: unsurprising, common, usual
Sentence: Her technical accomplishment on the piano is startling.
- Sedentary (adj.)
Meaning: (of a person) tending to spend much time seated; somewhat inactive. (निष्क्रिय)
Synonyms: dormant, immobile, inanimate
Antonyms: active, mobile, busy
Sentence: They led a sedentary life after retirement, spending their days in front of the television.
- Autonomous (adj.)
Meaning: (of a country or region) having the freedom to govern itself or control its own affairs. (स्वायत्तशासी)
Synonyms: independent, self-governed, self-governing
Antonyms: dependent, non-self-governing, subject, unfree
Sentence: They proudly declared themselves part of a new autonomous province.
- Moratorium (noun)
Meaning: a temporary prohibition of an activity. (रोक)
Synonyms: stop, ban,
Antonyms: continuance, continuation
Sentence: The debt was to be subject to a five-year moratorium.
