 ‘Vocabulary’

  1. Fickle (adj.)

Meaning: Likely to change frequently, suddenly, or unexpectedly. (चंचल)

Synonyms: volatile, unpredictable, changeful

Antonyms: constant, certain, stable

Sentence: A fickle friendship that was on and off over the years

  1. Erratic (adj.)

Meaning: Lacking a definite plan, purpose, or pattern. (अनियमित)

Synonyms: random, scattered, arbitrary

Antonyms: regular, systematic, regular

Sentence: So far, your effort to land a summer job has been very erratic

  1. Methodical (adj.)

Meaning: Following a set method, arrangement, or pattern. (व्यवस्थित)

Synonyms: systematic, structured, systematized

Antonyms: haphazard, disorganized, unsystematic

Sentence: A methodical study plan that includes a list of points to memorize.

  1. Thud (verb)

Meaning: To come into usually forceful contact with something. (टकराना)

Synonyms: bump, bang, slam

Antonyms: miss, skirt

Sentence: The snowball thudded against the side of my car.

  1. Smack (verb)

Meaning: Strike (someone or something), typically with the palm of the hand and as a punishment. (थप्पड़ मारना)

Synonyms: slap, hit, strike

Sentence: I think it’s wrong to smack children.

  1. Affix (verb)

Meaning: To cause (something) to hold to another. (चिपकाना)

Synonyms: attach, tie, glue

Antonyms: detach, undo, unfasten

Sentence: Complete the form and affix four tokens to its back.

  1. Repugnant (adj.)

Meaning: Causing intense displeasure, disgust, or resentment. (प्रतिकूल)

Synonyms: awful, disgusting, ugly

Antonyms: acceptable, innocuous, desirable

Sentence: I find his political ideas totally repugnant.

  1. Agony (noun)

Meaning: A situation or state that causes great suffering and unhappiness. (व्यथा)

Synonyms: nightmare, misery, torture

Antonyms: heaven, joy, pleasure

Sentence: Mother kissed his agony away.

  1. Torrid (adj.)

Meaning: Having a notably high temperature. (तेज़ धूप)

Synonyms: searing, boiling, hot

Antonyms: cold, frigid, glacial

Sentence: She was sitting on the rocks in the torrid sun.

  1. Rollick (verb)

Meaning: To engage in activity for amusement. (मौज उड़ाना)

Synonyms: play, frolic, entertain

Antonyms: work, slave, struggle

Sentence: An educator who realized that children need to rollick as well as to study and learn.
