‘Vocabulary’
- Hinterland (noun)
Meaning: the often uncharted areas beyond a coastal district or a river’s banks. (आंतरिक इलाके)
Synonyms: the middle of nowhere, the backwoods, the wilds
Sentence: Early settlers were driven from the coastal areas into the hinterland.
- Lofty (adj.)
Meaning: of imposing height. (बुलंद)
Synonyms: tall, high, giant
Antonyms: low-lying, short, squat
Sentence: The lofty walls of the castle seemed impregnable.
- Imminent (adj.)
Meaning: about to happen. (करीब)
Synonyms: close, near, approaching
Antonyms: distant, far-off, remote
Sentence: They were in imminent danger of being swept away.
- Influx (noun)
Meaning: an arrival or entry of large numbers of people or things. (तांता)
Synonyms: inundation, inrush, rush
Antonyms: outflow, outpouring
Sentence: A massive influx of tourists come here every day.
- Embolden (verb)
Meaning: give (someone) the courage or confidence to do something or to behave in a certain way. (प्रोत्साहित करना)
Synonyms: give courage, make brave, encourage
Antonyms: daunt, discourage, dishearten
Sentence: His poor showing in his first swim meet just emboldened him to train even harder.
- Allegiance (noun)
Meaning: loyalty or commitment of a subordinate to a superior or of an individual to a group or cause. (निष्ठा)
Synonyms: loyalty, faithfulness, fidelity
Antonyms: disloyalty, faithlessness, falseness
Sentence: Those wishing to receive citizenship must swear allegiance to the republic.
- Abscond (verb)
Meaning: leave hurriedly and secretly, typically to avoid detection of or arrest for an unlawful action such as theft. (फ़रार होना)
Synonyms: run away, escape, bolt
Antonyms: abide, dwell, return
Sentence: She absconded with the remaining thousand dollars.
- Dangle (verb)
Meaning: hang or swing loosely. (लटकना)
Synonyms: hang (down), droop, sag
Sentence: His attempts to dangle babies on his knee had proved disastrous.
- Famished (adj.)
Meaning: feeling a desire or need for food (भूखों मरना)
Synonyms: empty, hungry, peckish
Antonyms: engorged, glutted, gorged

- Loathe (verb)
Meaning: feel intense dislike or disgust for. (घृणा करना)
Synonyms: hate, detest, abhor
Antonyms: love, desire, like
Sentence: She loathed him on sight.
