  1. Infamy (noun)

Meaning: the state of being well known for some bad quality or deed. (बदनामी)

Synonyms: disgrace, shame, ignominy

Antonyms: respect, honor, esteem

Sentence: Traitors are held in infamy.

  1. Cunning (adj.)

Meaning: having or showing skill in achieving one’s ends by deceit or evasion. (चालाकी)

Synonyms: wily, devious, guileful

Antonyms: sincerity, ingenuousness

Sentence: He’s a cunning old fox.

  1. Letup (noun)

Meaning: a usually gradual decrease in the pace or level of activity of something (कम होना)

Synonyms: slowdown, decline, deceleration

Antonyms: acceleration, quickening, hastening

Sentence: The downpour continued for hours without letup.

  1. Fob (verb)

Meaning: deceitfully attempt to satisfy someone by making excuses or giving them something inferior. (धोखा देना)

Synonyms: deceive, trick, deter

Sentence: Don’t try to fob me off with excuses.

  1. Feisty (adj.)

Meaning: feeling or displaying eagerness to fight (आक्रामक)

Synonyms: aggressive, militant, hostile

Antonyms: peaceful, peaceable, nonaggressive

Sentence: At 66, he was as feisty as ever.

  1. Overkill (noun)

Meaning: the state or an instance of going beyond what is usual, proper, or needed (अति करना)

Synonyms: surplus, excess, overflow

Antonyms: deficiency, deficit, insufficiency

Sentence: That’s enough, anymore just overkill.

  1. Ephemeral (adj.)

Meaning: lasting for a very short time. (अल्पकालिक)

Synonyms: brief, short, little

Antonyms: eternal, lasting, enduring

Sentence: Fashion is by nature ephemeral.

  1. Contravention (noun)

Meaning: a failure to uphold the requirements of law, duty, or obligation (उल्लंघन)

Synonyms: violation, breach, offence

Antonyms: observance, respecting, upholding

Sentence: Sending the troops was a contravention of the treaty.

  1. Vertiginous (adj.)

Meaning: having or causing a whirling sensation; liable to failing (चक्कर आना)

Synonyms: giddy, dizzy, woozy

Antonyms: steady, stable, clearheaded

Sentence: 3-D effect is likely to leave some audience members feeling vertiginous.

  1. Congruity (noun)

Meaning: a point which two or more things share in common (समानता)

Synonyms: similarity, resemblance, commonality

Antonyms: difference, discrepancy, dissimilarity

Sentence: The book alleges certain congruities between several political assassinations that were thought to be unrelated.
