 ‘Vocabulary’

  1. Puissant (adj.)

Meaning: Having great power or influence. (सशक्त)

Synonyms: powerful, influential, significant

Antonyms: little, impotent, weak

Sentence: One of the nation’s most respected and puissant advocates for the rights of minorities.

  1. Truculent (adj.)

Meaning: Feeling or displaying eagerness to fight. (चिड़चिड़े)

Synonyms: aggressive, militant, hostile

Antonyms: peaceable, peaceful, nonaggressive

Sentence: This was particularly obnoxious to the truculent Arista.

  1. Sybarite (noun)

Meaning: A person whose life is devoted to luxury and sensual pleasures. (आत्म-भोगी)

Synonyms: hedonist, sensualist, voluptuary

Antonyms: ascetic, killjoy, straight arrow

Sentence: The prince was remembered as a self-indulgent sybarite, not as a statesman or warrior.

  1. Gripes (noun)

Meaning: To express dissatisfaction, pain, or resentment usually tiresomely. (शिकायत)

Synonyms: screams, complains, whines

Antonyms: delights, rejoices, endures

Sentence: Bring all your gripes to the boss.

  1. Connive (verb)

Meaning: To engage in a secret plan to accomplish evil or unlawful ends. (शामिल होना)

Synonyms: plot, scheme, conspire

Sentence: Would the brother connive at it?

  1. Virtuoso (adj.)

Meaning: Accomplished with trained ability. (गुणी)

Synonyms: skillful., expert, masterful

Antonyms: amateur, artless, crude

Sentence: He was gaining a reputation as a remarkable virtuoso.

  1. Artifact (noun)

Meaning: An object made by humans and surviving from an earlier time period. (कलाकृति।)

Synonyms: fossil, antiquities, relic

Sentence: Any spherically shaped artifact.

  1. Crypt (noun)

Meaning: An underground burial chamber. (तहखाना)

Synonyms: tomb, vault, mausoleum

Sentence: The old church’s crypt is the final resting place for the president and his beloved wife.

  1. Pseudo (adj.)

Meaning: Lacking in natural or spontaneous quality. (छद्म)

Synonyms: mock, fake, false

Antonyms: genuine, real, natural

Sentence: Her care for the poor is completely pseudo.

  1. Shaky (adj.)

Meaning: Marked by or given to small uncontrollable bodily movements. (कंपायमान)

Synonyms: shaking, trembly, trembling

Antonyms: stable, steady, controlled

Sentence: The old man’s hands were so shaky that I was afraid he’d drop the glass.
