India-Ethiopia: Agreements signed on visa facilitation & leather technology

  • India and Ethiopia have signed two agreements on February 20, 2021. These agreements are related to visa facilitation and leather technology.
  • Both the countries had useful and productive discussions on several of bilateral and regional issues. The ministers also agreed to expand the bilateral agenda with respect to the economy, defence, S&T, digital and cultural cooperation.

IOC signs pact with Greenstat Norway for hydrogen fuel

  • National hydrogen mission to accelerate plans to generate the carbon-free fuel from renewables, state-owned Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) on 19th Feb signed a pact with Greenstat Norway for setting up a Centre of Excellence on Hydrogen.
  • In the Union Budget for 2021-22, the government pledged to focus on generating hydrogen from green power sources as well as build more diverse and efficient energy infrastructure.
  • Aims: “This association aims to develop a Centre of Excellence on Hydrogen (CoE-H) including CCUS and Fuel Cells by IndianOil and M/s Greenstat for clean energy in cooperation with Indo-Norwegian Hydrogen Cluster companies/organizations”.
  • The CoE-H will facilitate the transfer and sharing of technology, know-how and experience through the green hydrogen value chain and other relevant technologies including hydrogen storage and fuel cells.

♦Hyderabad Recognised as ‘2020 Tree City of the World’

  • Telangana’s capital, Hyderabad has been recognized as a 2020 Tree City of World, by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the Arbor Day Foundation, for its commitment to growing and maintaining urban forests.
  • Hyderabad is the only city from India to have been recognized as a Tree City, to date.

Indian and Indonesian navies conduct "PASSEX" exercise in Arabian sea

  • The Indian and Indonesian navies carried out a military exercise in the Arabian sea on 18th Feb to enhance operational interoperability and overall 11 cooperation. Indian naval ship INS Talwar and Indonesian Navy’s multirole corvette KRI Bung Tomo were part of the exercise.
  • Enhancing Interoperability & strengthening Bilateral Maritime Cooperation Indian Navy and Indonesian Navy’s conducted Passage Exercise (PASSEX) in the Arabian Sea.

♦L&T delivers 100th K9 Vajra howitzer to Indian Army

L&T delivers 100th K9 Vajra howitzer to Indian Army

  • Army Chief Gen Manoj Naravane on 18th Feb flagged off the 100th K9 Vajra tracked self-propelled howitzer built by Larsen & Toubro (L&T) at its armoured system complex at Hazira in Gujarat.
  • L&T had completed the delivery of all the howitzers under the contract awarded in May 2017 ahead of schedule.
  • Note About K9 Vajra programme: “The K9 Vajra programme involved the delivery of 100 howitzers with associated engineering support package covering spares, system documentation and training. It also involves maintenance transfer of technology to an army base workshop to support the howitzers throughout their operational life cycle.

♦India successfully test-fires Helina, Dhruvastra anti-tank guided missiles

  • Defence Research and Development Organisation has successfully carried out joint user trials of indigenously developed Helina and Dhruvastra Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (ATGM) from the Advanced Light Helicopter at the Pokhran deserts in Rajasthan.
  • Dveloped indigenously by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The Helina and Dhruvastra are the third generation, “Lock-on-Before-Launch (LOBL)” fire and forget ATGMs that can engage targets both indirect hit mode as well as top attack mode.

Indian Navy Ship Pralaya Participates in NAVDEX 21 and IDEX 21

  • Indian Naval Ship (INS) Pralaya arrived at Abu Dhabi, UAE to participate in the NAVDEX 21 (Naval Defence Exhibition) and IDEX 21 (International Defence Exhibition), scheduled from 20 to 25 February 2021. INS Mysore (an indigenously built guided missile destroyer deployed in the Persian Gulf) is also participating in the exhibition.
  • IDEX and NAVDEX, and the International Defence Conference are organised by the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC), in cooperation with the Ministry of Defense and the General Command of the UAE Armed Forces.
  • Note About Exhibitions: The exhibitions showcase the latest technologies and innovation in the global defence sector, support the growth of UAE’s defence industry, and forge new relationships between major international companies.

  • The day aims to raise awareness about these unique mammals and speed up conservation efforts. Pangolin numbers are rapidly declining in Asia and Africa.

  • International Mother Language Day is celebrated annually on 21 February worldwide to aware of the diversity of the language and its variety. This day promotes the awareness of language and cultural diversity across the world. On 17 November, 1999, it was first announced by UNESCO.
