PM Narendra Modi suddenly addressed the nation on 25 December, 2021 and made some big announcements. The summary of his speech and announcements are important to be marked which are as follows:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announced for a “precaution dose” instead of “booster dose” for healthcare and frontline workers as well as co-morbid seniors and vaccination for teenagers between 15-18 years of age. It will strengthen the confidence of people and decrease their anxiety.
Why ‘precaution dose’ instead of ‘booster dose’?
- India had also graphed a separate way with the announcement of prime minister a “precaution dose” for frontline workers, healthcare workers and senior citizens with co-morbidities instead of calling it a “booster dose” as the third dose is termed world-wide.
- As per the government’s explanation the purpose behind precaution dose is that the dose is being proposed as a matter of ample precaution with a view that Indians already have hybrid immunity.
Need of precaution dose:
- The ‘precaution dose’ would be given to those who had got their second dose of vaccine nearly 6-8 months ago. The source said that by analyze India’s vaccine journey, it is hoping that this ‘precaution’ dose could be offered to other age-groups too.
- This (precaution dose) will strengthen confidence and physics of healthcare and frontline workers. The PM has also cautioned the public on new concern of corona variant ‘Omicron’. PM Modi also said that public should be not in panic but all the precautions must be followed to safe in this pandemic environment.
Youngsters of 15-18 age groups to get vaccine and this will aid education,” a government source said after Bharat Biotech also got Emergency Use Authorisation (EUA) for giving Covaxin to children between 12 and 18 years of age. There is a demand to begin vaccination for children as schools and colleges opening.
Current update about vaccination:
‘CoWIN’ is the India’s COVID-19 vaccine delivery tech platform. Now CoWIN will assume the school IDs of children eligible for vaccination. Government is starting this system January 3, 2022 as per the top executive RS Sharma. He also said that the system will be able to configure changes easily if the government decides to mix vaccines for a proposed booster dose.
Born in 2007 or before, citizen would be allowed to get vaccines. AS children aged between the ages of 15-18 do not have voter ID cards and many of them may not have Aadhaar too, so they will allowing school certificates and ID cards. Currently there are 9 eligible documents to register on CoWIN, Government is going to add school ID cards to this system soon.
RS Sharma is the CEO of the National Authority and chairperson of the empowered committee for CoWIN. He is also the former chief of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the semi-government body tasked with rolling out the national identity project, Aadhaar.
This step of CoWIN to bring school ID cards as an identity document comes days after Prime Minister Modi revealed significant additions to India’s vaccination plan amidst the Omicron variant scare.
Dates for new policy:
Healthcare, frontline workers and senior citizens aged above 60 with comorbidities will be entitled to receive a third precautionary dose of vaccine from January 10th, 2022.
Children aged 15-18 will be eligible to receive a jab starting January 3, 2022.
