The name “Remal”:
We all know the names given to cyclones in the Indian ocean region are decided through a naming system. The name Remal was suggested by Oman and the meaning of Remal is sand in Arabic.
India Meteorological Department gives names to cyclones after consulting the 12 countries which come under the region.
Impacts so far:
The cyclone Remal has affected West Bengal the most. It has killed around 6 people, injured more than 100 people,toppled 356 electricity poles, demolished 2500 households, and caused other casualties like cancellation of flights.
Around 50,000 people were evacuated from the sundarban regions.
If we talk about Telangana, it has killed 13 people so far. Northeast areas are also affected by the cyclone. Heavy rail fall, landslides and collapse of buildings occurred in Mizoram where 30 people died.

Some areas around the country are most affected by the cyclone. These areas are as follow:
- West Bengal
- Bangladesh
- Northeast India
Preparation:
The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for some areas around the country. These states are Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura and Mizoram.
