A unique student identity card known as the Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR) was demanded for last some time. The central government has introduced the initiative under the ‘One Nation, One Student ID’ program to implement ‘APAAR’. This initiative is comes from the 2020 National Education Policy.

Impact of APAAR:

Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR) is a specialized identification system that is designed for all students in India. Every student will able to receive a lifelong APAAR ID which is streamlining the process of tracking academic progress from pre-primary education to higher education for students, schools, and government authorities.

APAAR will also provide a platform for Digilocker, a digital platform, for enabling students to securely store essential documents and achievements, including exam results and report cards.

This digital storage facilitates will be accessible easily. It proves invaluable for pursuing higher education or seeking employment opportunities in the future.

The purpose of introducing APAAR:

The aim of introducing ‘APAAR’ is to simplify the educational process and reduce the burden of carrying physical documents for students.

It introduced under the National Education Policy 2020 by the Education Ministry.

Advantages of APAAR:

APAAR might be beneficial to minimize instances of fraud and duplicate educational certificates by offering a single, trusted point of reference for educational institutions.

There is a system of depositing credits into the system to certifying bodies that issue certificates and only those will be authorized to deposit credits into the system

This system will ensure the authenticity of the data.

Challenges about APAAR:

After the initiating the initiative by the education ministry, some discussions (concerns) regarding the APPAR ID have aroused.

Several parents and students have expressed their concerns about sharing their Aadhar details, fearing that their personal information might be leaked to external parties.
