Argentina to buy Tejas fighter jets
Argentina talked with India for procurement of fourth-generation fighter aircraft Tejas Mark-1A and LCH Prachanda with a Rs.8675 crore deal.
Defence Minister of Argentina, Jorge Tayna held a bilateral meeting with Defence Minister of India Rajnath Singh. Both the leaders discussed ways to strengthen defence and cooperation with a deal of a Rs 8675 crore for acquiring India’s fourth-generation fighter aircraft Tejas Mark-1A and LCH Prachanda.
The South American nation is already in interest for the indigenous light combat aircraft Tejas to add in the Argentine Air Force by 2022. Argentina has already taken its eye on different types of helicopters manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).
Light Combat Aircraft- Tejas
In 2003, the LCA was officially named “Tejas”.
Tejas is the smallest and lightest supersonic combat aircraft in its class.
The Tejas is a single-engine multirole combat aircraft which has a tailless, compound delta wing design with “relaxed static stability” for enhanced maneuverability and agility.
The Tejas is a multi-role combat aircraft and its flexibility permits it to carry out Interception, air-to-surface and anti-shipping roles in a single mission.
Actual deal:
Argentina is informed that they want 12 light combat aircraft and they also received letters of intent from China and HAL.
The actual deal was to acquire a Chinese JF-17 vs. Tejas contest, but Indian company HAL has acted fast on this matter.
50 systems and sub-systems of the Tejas, are supplied by UK firms, will have to be replaced by HAL.

Demand of Tejas aircraft:
The indigenous Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas is demanding as the first choice of many countries such as Malaysia, Argentina, Australia, Egypt, America, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
To compete the Chinese JF-17, Malaysia made its mind to buy the Tejas MK-1A for its fighter jet programme.
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited intended to give the aircraft to the RFI from the Royal Malaysian Air Force. It would be HAL’s the first export order for Tejas.
