Iran allows India and four other countries to pass through the Strait of Hormuz

  • Abbas Araghchi said that India and four other “friendly countries” are allowed to move their ships through the Strait of Hormuz. He also stressed that Iran has control (sovereignty) over this very important water route, which connects the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman.
  • He also thanked India and Sri Lanka for their important help after an Iranian ship, IRIS Dena, was destroyed in a U.S. attack in the Indian Ocean during the ongoing conflict. He clearly said that no talks are happening with the United States right now.
  • Araghchi said that China, Russia, India, Iraq, and Pakistan are the countries allowed to pass through the strait.
  • He explained that the Strait of Hormuz lies within the waters of Iran and Oman, and again said that Iran has control over it. He also added that after the war ends, new rules for ships passing through the strait will be introduced.
  • Talking about the IRIS Dena incident, he said the attack was unfair and done without any warning. He again thanked India and Sri Lanka for helping move two other ships to safe places.
  • The Iranian warship IRIS Dena was attacked and sunk by a U.S. Navy submarine on March 4, near the coast of Sri Lanka in the Indian Ocean. It was returning after exercises in Visakhapatnam. At least 87 sailors lost their lives in the attack.
  • Two other Iranian ships, IRIS Lavan and IRIS Bushehr, which were also in the region for exercises, have now reached safe ports in Kochi and Trincomalee (Sri Lanka).
  • The Strait of Hormuz, which earlier had more than 100 ships passing every day, has now seen a huge drop in traffic to just a few ships daily because of the conflict.
  • At least four Indian ships — Jag Vasant, Pine Gas, Shivalik, and Nanda Devi — have successfully passed through the strait since the war between the U.S.-Israel and Iran started on February 28.
  • Araghchi, who earlier worked as Iran’s main negotiator with the U.S., again strongly said that there are no talks happening with the United States.
  • He said that the U.S. has been sending messages through other countries, and Iran has only replied with its own views. He described this as just an exchange of messages, not proper talks.
  • He clearly said that Iran’s focus right now is to fight and defend itself, not to negotiate.
  • Donald Trump, who recently delayed a possible attack on Iran’s power systems, said that the U.S. is in talks with Iran.
  • Ishaq Dar said that indirect talks are happening between the U.S. and Iran through messages sent by Pakistan.
  • He also said that the S. has shared 15 points, and Iran is currently thinking over them. Countries like Turkiye and Egypt are also helping in this process.
  • Trump warned that Iran should take talks seriously soon, otherwise the situation could become very serious and difficult to control.
  • Reports from U.S. media say that the Pentagon is sending more troops to West Asia, getting ready for a possible ground attack on Iran.

India has enough oil and LPG supply for now, says government

  • The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) said that India has enough LPG (cooking gas) for one month already arranged through imports, and more supplies are being ordered regularly.
  • The Ministry also said that India is now less dependent on LPG imports, because production inside the country has increased a lot.
  • Talking about crude oil, the government said that Indian companies have already secured oil for the next 60 days, and there are extra reserves stored for another 60 days.
  • This means that India has around 74 days of total fuel supply (crude oil, petrol, and diesel) available right now.
  • The Ministry assured that people will get uninterrupted fuel supply for nearly two months, no matter what is happening globally. It also said that oil for the next two months has already been arranged.
  • The government said that India is fully safe in terms of energy supply for the coming months, and because of this, extra emergency reserves are not very important at the moment.
  • It again made it clear that there is no shortage of LPG in the country. It also said that domestic LPG production has increased a lot, especially after earlier government steps.
  • Refineries in India have increased their production by 40%, and now produce about 50,000 tonnes daily, which meets more than 60% of India’s total LPG need.
  • On the import side, around 800,000 tonnes of LPG is on the way to India from countries like the United States, Russia, Australia, and others.
  • The government confirmed that one full month of LPG supply is already secured, and more is being arranged continuously.
  • Earlier, Vikas Kaushal, Managing Director of Hindustan Petroleum, said that LPG demand has increased by more than 15% in the last two days, but also assured that supply systems are strong and petrol pumps have enough stock.

14 people die after bus catches fire in Andhra Pradesh

  • 14 people died after a private bus caught fire following a collision with a lorry near Rayavaram in Andhra Pradesh’s Markapuram district early Thursday morning.
  • Among the dead were a 5-month-old baby and six women, and 28 people were injured, out of which five are in very serious condition.
  • The bus, run by Harikrishna Travels, was going from Nirmal (Telangana) to Vinjamur (Andhra Pradesh) with 42 passengers.

  • Officials said that the bus moved into the opposite lane and crashed into the lorry, and further details will come after investigation.
  • Initial tests showed that the driver had not consumed alcohol.
  • Fire officials said that the fire became very intense because of fuel in the lorry and the bus’s battery system, which may have caught fire due to a short circuit.
  • They also said that inflammable materials inside the bus made the fire spread quickly.
  • Rescue teams broke the windows and saved as many people as possible, according to local police officer Subbarao.
  • The bodies were taken to hospitals within an hour, and DNA tests are being done to identify them. The bodies are expected to be returned to families by Friday.
  • The State government announced ₹5 lakh compensation for families of the dead and ₹2 lakh for the injured.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed sadness and announced ₹2 lakh for the families of those who died and ₹50,000 for the injured.

  • To stop such accidents in the future, the Home Minister said that check posts will be set up at 13 inter-state entry points to inspect buses carefully.
