Anurag Singh Thakur, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting inaugurated the 20th meeting of Asia-Pacific Institute For Broadcasting Development (AIBD). It was also the 47th annual gathering of Asia-Pacific Institute For Broadcasting Development.

With Anurag Singh Thakur,there were some other ministers also present. The names of these ministers are such as Dr. L. Murugan, Shri Apurva Chandra, Ms Philomena Gnanapragasam. They were the main personalities of the meeting.

Shri Anurag Singh Thakur stated at the meeting that the main issue the mainstream media is facing nowadays is its own reputation for true news. The new age digital channels are not the important threat for mainstream media if it showcases true and trusted news.

COVID phase:

He also praised the efforts of the guests who took part in the meeting. Shri Anurag Singh Thakur also hosted the AIBD meetings in COVID period and did a great job to connect every member country with India. In these meetings the main topic was the impacts of COVID pandemic on the broadcasting and mainstream media.

During COVID pandemic, the work and effort of AIBD were not stopped and they continued providing training and launching programmes during lockdown. A total number of 34 programmes aimed at the enhancement of the mainstream media were started in the last year. 

Awards:

In the meeting of Asia-Pacific Institute For Broadcasting Development, Anurag Singh Thakur also presided over the broadcasting awards for the year of 2021 and 2022. Radio television Burnie got the appreciation award for 2022.

Khieu Khanharith, Minister of Information and Communication, Cambodia got the lifetime achievement award for 2021 and Shri Mayank Agarwal got the lifetime achievement award for the year of 2022. He is the CEO and president of AIBD.

What is AIBD?

The full form of AIBD is Asia-Pacific Institute For Broadcasting Development and it was established in 1977. It is an intergovernmental organization. The countries which come under the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific especially in the field of information and broadcasting.
