Best Government Jobs in India with salary and post wise analysis

We all in India, try to get government jobs for assured career progression, good salary, job stability, job satisfaction etc.

The Indian government or the state government segregates the public employees into four groups (A/B/C/D) rankings and further, these groups are divided into various levels (1 to 20).

  • Group – A: Levels 15 – 20
  • Group – B (Gazetted/Non gazetted): Levels 6 – 9 (non-gazetted), Levels 10 – 14 (gazetted)
  • Group – C & D: Levels 1-5

♦Group A (Level 15-20)

People who get appointed into this group are officials and are employed at various managerial positions across governments which are one of the highest available jobs. These officials are appointed under the authority of the President of India.

  • Indian Armed Forces (IAF)
  • All India Services (AIS)
  • Scientists in the organisations like DRDO, ISRO, CSIR, BARC
  • Bureaucrats
  • Central India Civil Services (IAS, IRS, IPS, IFS, IRS, IRTS)

Salary: 56000 to 90000 (Depending upon the administration)

Note: The Salaries of employees can go as high as Rs 2,50,000 in this group.

♦Group – B (Gazetted Officers- Levels 10 – 14)

The authority of a Group – B gazetted officer is similar to that of a Group A officer. In order to start one’s career as a Group – B gazetted officer, one has to clear an exam of UPSC but most of these seats are filled through promotions. The officers in this group are appointed by the Department Heads of any government organisation.

  • Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO)
  • State Civil Services (SCS) etc.

Salary: 54000 to 82000 (Depending upon the administration)

Group – B (Non-Gazetted- Levels 6 – 9): The basic difference between the gazetted and non-gazetted employees of the government is that the former can authorise the issuance of official government stamps whereas, the latter cannot. The Gazetted officers have a more administrative role.

  • Public Sector Undertakings (PSU)
  • National Banks fall under category along with office supervisors, state inspectors, office executives
  • State police officers etc.
  • RBI Grade B

Salary: 3800 to 60000 (Depending upon the administration)

♦Group C

This is the largest government employee or staff at the ground level. There are mostly supportive and non-supervisory jobs.  These employees in the government sector can be promoted to higher levels.

  • Staff Selection Commission (SSC)
  • Bank PO/ Clerk
  • Section Heads
  •  Head clerks
  •  Stenographers
  •  Tax assistants
  •  Typists
  • Telephone operators
  • And individuals holding similar positions in the Armed forces.

Salary: 18000 to 45000 (Depending upon the administration)

♦Group D

This is the bottom of the government job employees in India.

  • Driver (Officer’s Driver)
  •  Peon
  •  Cleaner
  •  Mali
  • Guard
  • Barber
  •  Cook etc.

Salary: 14000 to 28000(Depending upon the administration)
