Candidates must possess one of the following qualifications to be eligible:
  • For Head Constable (Radio Operator):
    • Passed Intermediate or 12th Standard or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics from a recognised Board or University with an aggregate of 60% marks in PCM subjects.
    • OR
    • Matriculation or equivalent from a recognized Board AND a two-year Industrial Training Institute (ITI)Certificate in Radio and Television, Electronics Engineering, Computer Operator & Programming Assistant, Data Preparation & Computer Software, General Electronics Engineering, or Data Entry Operator.
  • For Head Constable (Radio Mechanic):
    • Passed Intermediate or 12th Standard or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics from a recognised Board or University with an aggregate of 60% marks in PCM subjects.
    • OR
    • Matriculation or equivalent from a recognized Board AND a two-year Industrial Training Institute (ITI)Certificate in Radio and Television, General Electronics, Computer Operator & Programming Assistant, Data Preparation & Computer Software, Electrician, Fitter, Information Technology and Electronics System Maintenance, Communication Equipment Maintenance, Computer Hardware, Network Technician, Mechatronics, or Data Entry Operator.

Age Limit (as on 23.09.2025)

The age limit for candidates is as follows:

  • General/UR: 18 to 25 years
  • OBC: 18 to 28 years
  • SC/ST: 18 to 30 years

Age relaxation is applicable for Ex-Servicemen and other specified categories as per government rules.

BSF Head Constable Salary and Benefits:

A career as a BSF Head Constable offers a highly competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package, making it a financially attractive profession. The salary structure is based on the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC), which ensures a handsome in-hand income. The post of Head Constable (RO/RM) falls under Pay Level-4 of the Pay Matrix, with a pay scale of ₹25,500 – ₹81,100.

SC/ST, BSF Departmental candidates, Ex-Servicemen and Compassionate Appointment or Female No Examination Fee
However, ₹ 50/- plus taxes = ₹ 59/- will be charged from every candidate as “Service Charge” by the CSC

BSF Head Constable Selection Process:

The selection process for the BSF Head Constable Recruitment 2025 is a multi-stage procedure designed to select the most capable and physically fit candidates. It is divided into three phases.

Phase 1: Physical Standard Test (PST) & Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

This is the initial screening stage. Candidates’ physical measurements (height, chest) will be checked as per the standards. Those who qualify will proceed to the PET, which includes running, long jump, and high jump to test physical endurance.

Phase 2: Computer Based Test (CBT)

Candidates who clear Phase 1 will be called for a written examination. This test is crucial as the merit list is primarily based on the scores obtained here.

  • Mode: Computer Based Test (Objective Type with MCQs)
  • Total Questions: 100
  • Total Marks: 200
  • Duration: 2 Hours
  • Subjects: Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, and English & GK.
  • Negative Marking: 0.25 marks will be deducted for each incorrect answer.

Phase 3: Document Verification, Skill Test & Medical Examination

  • Document Verification: All original documents of the candidates will be verified.
  • Skill Test (for HC RO only): This includes a Dictation Test (50 marks) and a Paragraph Reading Test (qualifying nature) to assess English writing and pronunciation skills.
  • Detailed Medical Examination (DME): A thorough medical check-up will be conducted to ensure candidates are medically fit as per BSF standards.
