Cabinet Approved Ambitious IndiaAI Mission

To move forward in achieving the ambitious vision of Making AI in India and Making AI Work for India, the cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has recently approved a national level IndiaAI Mission. The total outlay of IndiaAI Mission is around Rs.10,371.92 crore. The IndiaAI Mission will be implemented by the IndiaAI’ Independent Business Division (IBD) under Digital India Corporation (DIC).

Aim of IndiaAI Mission:

The aim of the IndiaAI Mission is to establish a profound AI ecosystem promoting Artificial Intelligence Development, AI technologies and AI Innovation through conducting strategic programmes, policies and further encouraging partnership among various private and public sectors to boost the overall AI ecosystem in India.

The IndiaAI Mission will drive the AI ecosystem in India through various methods and strategies including democratizing computing access, improving data quality, developing indigenous AI capabilities, attracting top AI talent, enabling industry collaboration, providing startup risk capital, ensuring socially impactful AI projects and bolstering ethical AI and other ambitious objectives.

Features of IndiaAI Mission:

• IndiaAI Compute capacity- it will build AI compute infrastructure of around 1000 and more Graphics Processing Units (GPUs), and these units will be developed through public private partnership model.
• IndiaAI Innovation Centre- it will monitor the development as well as deployment of the indigenous Large Multimodal Models (LMMs) and domain-specific foundational models especially in critical sectors.
• IndiaAI Datasets platform- it will provide seamless access to non-personal datasets to Indian Startups and Researchers.
• IndiaAI Application Development Initiative- it will encourage the Artificial Intelligence based application in critical sectors including Central Ministries, State Departments, and other institutions.
• IndiaAI FutureSkills – it will promote courses and programs in the AI ecosystem such as undergraduate, masters-level, and Ph.D. programs. It will also set up AI Labs in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.
• IndiaAI Startup Financing- it will support and promote AI Startups and provide them seamless funding to further Development.
• Safe & Trusted AI- it will promote the implementation of Responsible AI projects and indigenous tools and frameworks.
