Cabinet Approved National Forensic Infrastructure Enhancement Scheme(N.F.l.E.S.)
The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has recently approved the National Forensic Infrastructure Enhancement Scheme (NFIES) with the total outlay of Rs. 2254.43 crore during the period from 2024-25 to 2028-29. The responsible Ministry for this scheme is the Ministry of Home Affairs. This is a central sector scheme.
Components of the scheme:
This scheme has three major components approved by the Union Cabinet. These three components are as follows….
- Establishment of Campuses of the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) in the country.
- Establishment of Central Forensic Science Laboratories in the country.
- Enhancement of existing infrastructure of the Delhi Campus of the NFSU.

The primary goal of NFIES is to enhance the forensic infrastructure, ensuring that law enforcement agencies have the necessary tools, equipment, and facilities to effectively collect, analyze, and utilize forensic evidence in criminal investigations.
