Akash Air gets Air Operator Certificate from DCGA

  • Billionaire investor Rakesh Juhunjhunwala-owned Akasa Air has been cleared for take-off.
  • The no-frills airline received its air operator certificate (AOC) from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The airline will start its operations from the end of July.
  • Akasa Air, whose airline code is QP, received its first 737 MAX on June 21. The airline will commence operations with two aircraft, subsequently adding to its fleet, every month.
  • By the end of the fiscal year 2022-23, the airline will have inducted 18 aircraft and thereafter 12-14 aircraft every 12 months, which will make up its order of 72 delivered over five years.

PM Modi inaugurated Akshaya Patra Mid-Day Meal Kitchen in Varanasi

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the Akshaya Patra mid-day meal kitchen in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.
  • Managed by the Akshaya Patra Foundation (APF), which also runs one of the world’s largest school feeding programmes in collaboration with the government’s Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman (PM POSHAN) scheme, the kitchen will feed over one lakh children in a bid to ensure that they don’t miss out on education due to poverty.
  • This centralized kitchen will enable to APF to serve over 1 lakh children in 282 schools in Varanasi. it is Akshaya Patra’s 62nd kitchen in the country and 5th in UP.
  • APF is a non-profit trust of international Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), Bangalore.

Sikkim and West Bengal signed an agreement to ease travel for tourists

  • The governments of West Bengal and Sikkim have signed an agreement to help tourists travel between the two neighboring states with ease in a bid to boost tourism.
  • The agreement will allow West Bengal-registered commercial vehicles to drop tourists at their hotels in different destinations of Sikkim.
  • After getting down at Bagdogra airport or New Jalpaiguri railway station in West Bengal, people earlier had to take Sikkim-registered vehicles to reach the state. There were restrictions on West Bengal-registered vehicles in the Himalayan state.
  • Same was the situation for Sikkim-registered vehicles wanting to go to Darjeeling, Kalimpong and other Himalayan towns in northern West Bengal. With the signing of the agreement, these restrictions would be lifted.

Meghalaya to invest 300 crore in Childhood education programmes

  • Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has announced Government that government has earmarked Rs 300 crore from the externally aided projects to make investment in early childhood education programmes.
  • An estimated amount of Rs 8.33 crore has been spent on the construction of the DERT.
  • The state and has come up with a road map to invest in early childhood education programmes.

Ministry of Mines organized 6th National Conclave in New Delhi

  • The Ministry of Mines has organized the 6th National Conclave on Mines and Minerals in New Delhi.
  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah was the chief guest of the conclave to be organized at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi.
  • As part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav iconic week celebrations, the one-day conclave has witnessed the conferring of several awards including the Rashtriya Khanij Vikas Puraskar to the best performing States in the field of mining.
  • Ministry of Mines introduced the concept of National Mining Conclave in 2016 with the aim to provide a platform for interaction among different stakeholders like Central Government officers who are policy makers, state government officers, the real executors in the auction regime, industry and the industry associations.

UP becomes first state in the country to have 13 expressways

  • Uttar Pradesh has become the first state in the country to have 13 expressways.
  • Of the total 13, six are operational while the rest are under construction. (total length of 3,200 kilometers)
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 296-km-long Bundelkhand Expressway on July 16 and with its inauguration Bundelkhand will be directly connected to Delhi.
  • Also, the foundation stone of the 594 km long Ganga Expressway has been laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This expressway will not only reduce the distance between East and West but will also serve to connect people.
  • The Bundelkhand Expressway will connect people with Delhi and other states as well. This will benefit the people of Chitrakoot, Banda, Mahoba, Hamirpur, Jalaun, Auraiya and Etawah districts. People will get the benefit of connecting Bundelkhand with Delhi directly and Bundelkhand will be free from the stain of backwardness.
  • Apart from this, Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway, Bundelkhand Expressway, Gorakhpur Link Expressway, Ghazipur-Ballia-Manjhighat Expressway and Delhi-Dehradun Expressway are being constructed.

Kharchi Festival begins in Tripura

  • With the worshiping of 14 deities simultaneously, the centuries-old seven-day long colourful ‘Kharchi Puja’ began in Tripura with traditional fervor and rituals.
  • Khar means sin and chi means cleaning.
  • With colorful marquees, illuminations, religious rites and chanting of mantras amid drum beats, the festival features 14 deities – Shiva, Durga, Vishnu, Laxmi, Saraswati, Kartik, Ganesha, Brahma, Abadhi (God of water), Chandra, Ganga, Agni, Kamdev and Himadri (Himalaya).

Axis Bank signed an MoU with Indian Air Force to manage salary accounts

  • Private sector lender Axis Bank has signed an MoU with the Indian Air Force (IAF) to manage salary accounts of the defense personnel.
  • The company has offered to incorporate best-in-class benefits and features under its ‘Power Salute’ initiative for defence personnel.
  • The salary account offered by Axis Bank will have benefits such as personal accidental cover of up to Rs 56 lakh, total permanent disability cover benefit of Rs 46 lakh, air accident cover of Rs 1 crore among others.
  • There will be no processing fee to open the account, while as many as 12 EMI waivers will be given on home loans. It will also offer additional zero balance accounts for 3 family members with no charges.

NPCI partnered with JBIMS for master’s degree in digital payments

  • The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has partnered with Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (JBIMS) to co-create a master’s programme in management studies in digital payments for its employees.
  • The degree has been launched under NPCI’s “Learn while you Earn” higher education program. The company will co-sponsor 75 per cent of the program fee and other related costs for the participating employees. The duration of the course programme will be 3 years.
  • The program is aimed to enrich employees with a deeper understanding and knowledge of research methodologies while encouraging them to publish research papers and articles. Additionally, NPCI employees will also have the opportunity to pursue super-specialization and further studies after the completion of the Master’s program.

 Union Minister Rajnath Singh launched first-ever AI exhibition in New Delhi

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has inaugurated the first-ever ‘Artificial Intelligence in Defence’ (AIDef) symposium and exhibition, organized by the Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.
  • It is a big event where 75 newly-developed AI products/technologies, having applications in defence has been launched as part of the celebrations marking 75 years of Independence ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ and to promote ‘Aatmanirbharta’ initiative in Defence.
  • The event has also witness panel discussions on ‘Deploying AI in Defence’, ‘GenNext AI solutions’ and ‘AI in Defence – Industry Perspective’, with active participation from the Services, academia, students, and research organizations and Industry.
  • Indian Defence exports have crossed the highest ever figure of Rs 13,000 crore in Financial Year 2021-22, with 70 per cent contribution coming from the private sector and the remaining 30 per cent from the public sector.


 Gujarat to host 36th National Games from 27 September to 10 October

  • Gujarat state will host the 36th edition of the National Games from September 27 to October 10.
  • This is for the first time that Gujarat will be hosting this prestigious event. After a gap of seven years, the event will be held in six cities – Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot and Bhavnagar.
  • More than 7,000 top sportspersons of the country are expected to showcase their might in over 34 disciplines including indoor and outdoor sports such as athletics, hockey, football, volleyball, lawn tennis, table tennis, judo, wrestling, kabaddi and kho-kho.
  • The last edition of the National Games was organized in Kerala in 2015. Due to various reasons, including the pandemic, the games are now being organized after a gap of seven years.

  • Ferrari racer Charles Leclerc has won the Austrian F1 Grand Prix.
  • Red Bull driver Max Verstappen came second while Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton finished third.
  • This was Leclerc’s third win of 2022.
  • Leclerc had earlier won the Bahrain GP and the Australian GP in 2022 respectively.
  • Overall, Leclerc has five race wins in his career, besides getting 18 podium finishes.

Wimbledon championship 2022

  • Serbia’s Novak Djokovic has won his seventh Wimbledon title after coming from a set down to beat Nick Kyrgios 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (3) in the men’s final.
  • It is Djokovic’s 21st Grand Slam title overall, putting him one behind record-holder Rafael Nadal. Only Roger Federer has won more Wimbledon titles, with eight. Kyrgios was playing in his first Grand Slam final.
  • Kazakhstani Elena Rybakina has won the women’s title at Wimbledon by beating Ons Jabeur 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.
  • Rybakina is the first player representing Kazakhstan to win a Grand Slam singles title.
  • She was born in Russia but switched nationalities in 2018.

  • Former President of Angolan, Jose Eduardo dos Santos has passed away at the age of 79.
  • He was one of Africa’s longest-serving heads of state, who ruled for almost four decades as president of Angola.
  • He stepped down from the president’s post in 2017.
  • He had also fought for the continent’s longest civil war and turned his country into a major oil producer.
