Exp.The General Elections 2019 commenced on April 11, 2019 as the first phase of voting began for 91 Parliamentary constituencies, out of the total 543 constituencies, spread over 18 States and 2 Union Territories.

Exp.In order to vote in India, one needs to fill an application ‘Form 6’ and submit it to the Electoral Registration Officer in his or her Assembly Constituency. After proper verification, person is included in the electoral roll as a voter. One can also apply for a voters’ ID on the Election Commission’s website.

Exp.The first phase of Lok Sabha Elections 2019 has begun in India, with a total 91 constituencies in the fray. As many as 1279 candidates are set to go against each other in phase 1 of the polls. In Uttar Pradesh, the polls are being held in eight Parliamentary seats including Saharanpur, Kairana, Muzaffarnagar, Bijnor, Meerut, Baghpat, Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddha Nagar. 

Exp.The Parliament of New Zealand on April 10, 2019 voted to ban all types of semi-automatic weapons and assault rifles following the Christchurch attacks. The bill was passed in the House of Representatives with the approval of 119 members, with just one member opposing it.

Exp.Incumbent Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to win a record fifth term in the country’s most closely-fought general election in years after his main rival conceded defeat. With more than 99 percent of votes counted, Netanyahu’s Likud party is set to lead a right-wing bloc with 65 of the 120 seats in parliament. Netanyahu’s key rival, Blue and White Party’s Benny Gantz, accepted the result.

Exp.India has built a 25-bed maternity hospital in Nepal. The hospital has been built under the Government of India’s Small Development Projects Scheme. The Hospital will provide quality maternity and health care services to the people of 50 Village Development Committees in and around Siraha district.

Exp.The UK and the European Union have agreed to extend Brexit until October 31, 2019. The decision was taken at an emergency meeting in Brussels on April 10, 2019 where the EU leaders agreed to offer British Prime Minister Theresa May a six-month extension. Accepting the offer, May said the UK would still aim to leave the EU as soon as possible.

Exp.Astronomers took the first ever image of a black hole located in a distant galaxy. It was captured by the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT), a network of eight linked telescopes. It measures 40 billion km across and has been described by scientists as “a monster”.

Exp.Air delivery developer ‘Wing’, owned by Google parent company Alphabet, began delivering its first orders to customers in Canberra, Australia via flying drones. The company plans to expand delivery areas in the nearby cities soon.

Exp.The Supreme Court imposed a fine of Rs 20 lakh on the West Bengal government for imposing a virtual ban on public screening of satirical film “Bhobishyoter Bhoot” in the State. The film revolves around a group of ghosts, including a politician, who assemble at a refugee camp and try to be relevant in contemporary times.
