Chhattisgarh becomes 1st state to recognise Forest Resource Rights in Urban Region
- Chhattisgarh became the first state to recognise Community Forest Resource Rights in an urban area, with the state government recognising the rights of residents of Dhamtari district over 4,127 hectares of forests.
- Under Forest Rights Act, 2006, Community Forest Resource Right gives gram sabhas the right to protect, regenerate or conserve or manage any forest resources used by the entire community, or village.

Kakori Train Conspiracy renamed to Kakori Train Action
- The Uttar Pradesh government has renamed a landmark freedom movement event as Kakori Train Action while paying tributes to the revolutionaries who were hanged for robbing a train at Kakori to buy weapons in 1925.
- The new name was used in official communications to refer to the event, usually described as the ‘Kakori train robbery’ or the ‘Kakori train conspiracy’.
G Manoj Sinha inaugurates “Bungus Awaam Mela” in J&K
- Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha has inaugurated the Bungus Awaam Mela with grand arrangements for village games, exhilarating local performances, and other activities to celebrate the 75th year of Independence at Bungus valley in Kupwara district.
- Lt Governor paid tributes to the great revolutionary, freedom fighter Khudiram Bose, on his death anniversary.

28th ASEAN Regional Forum Ministerial Meeting Dr Rajkumar Ranjan Singh led India’s delegation
- The Minister of State for External Affairs, Dr Rajkumar Ranjan Singh led India’s delegation to the 28th ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) Foreign Ministers Meeting. The Meeting was held under the Chairmanship of Brunei Darussalam.
- The ARF Ministers adopted a Joint Statement on Promoting the Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) Agenda. India engages actively in ARF activities and initiatives on Maritime Security; Counter-Terrorism; Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs); Disaster Relief etc.

Indian Navy, IDFC FIRST bank bring ‘Honour FIRST’ banking solutions
- The Indian Navy has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Infrastructure Development Finance Company (IDFC) FIRST Bank to initiate ‘Honour FIRST’, a premium banking solution for serving personnel and veterans of the Indian Navy.
- With zero – balance salary account feature, Honour FIRST account holders will receive up to 5 per cent interest per annum and a net banking and customised mobile app that offers a superior user interface and experience.

HCL Technologies becomes 4th IT firm to hit Rs 3 trillion market-cap
- HCL Technologies’ market capitalisation (market-cap) touched Rs 3 trillion for the first time on 13th Aug, becoming the fourth Indian information technology (IT) firm to achieve this milestone after Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Infosys and Wipro.
- Shares of HCL Tech hit a fresh record high of Rs 1,118.55, up 2 per cent on the BSE in intra-day trade, surpassing its previous high of Rs 1,101 touched on 12th Aug in intra-day deal.

Quad countries Navies to undertake Ex-Malabar 2021
- The Quad country navies including, India, the US, Japan and Australia, will be conducting the annual Malabar naval exercises, from August 21, off the coast of Guam, in the Indo-Pacific.
- The harbour phase of the Malabar naval exercises will take place from August 21 to 24, 2021. The sea phase of the exercise will be held on August 25 to 29, 2021.
- The objective of the Malabar series of Exercises is to increase the interoperability of naval powers of the four QUAD countries.

Shakib Al Hasan and Stafanie Taylor voted ICC players of the month for July
- Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and West Indies skipper Stafanie Taylor were named the ICC Player of the Month for July in men’s and women’s categories respectively.
- Shakib’s contributions in all three formats of the game helped Bangladesh win their series against Zimbabwe last month. Taylor was the standout performer for West Indies in the limited-overs series against Pakistan.

- The International Left-Handers Day is celebrated every year on August 13 to celebrate the differences and uniqueness of the left-handers in the predominantly right-handed world.
- Lefthanders International Inc. founder Dean R Campbell first observed the day in 1976. International Left-Handers Day was created to showcase the ‘sinistrality’ or left-handedness and to spotlight their advantages and disadvantages.
13 August: World Organ Donation Day
- World Organ Donation Day is observed on August 13 every year to spread awareness about the importance of organ donation and address and debunk myths related to donating organs.
- This day strives to encourage people to donate their healthy organs after death in order to save more lives.
