Jharkhand CM launched Sports Action toward Harnessing Aspiration of Youth (SAHAY) scheme for maoist-hit areas

  • The Chief Minister of Jharkhand Hemant Soren has launched Sports Action toward Harnessing Aspiration of Youth (SAHAY) scheme aimed at nurturing young sporting talents in Maoist-hit districts of the state.
  • This scheme has been launched to curb the Left Wing Extremism (LWE) which affected 19 of the state’s 24 districts.
  • Boys and girls in the 14-19 age group from villages to ward level will be registered under the scheme, and will be given opportunities to display their skills in basketball, volleyball, hockey and athletics.

  • Dr Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (I/C) Science & Technology, inaugurated the 7th edition of the India International Science festival, IISF at Panaji, Goa held from 10th December to 13th December 2021.
  • IISF is a joint program of the Ministry of Science & Technology, Ministry of Earth Sciences, and Vijnana Bharati (VIBHA), a swadeshi science movement of Bharat.
  • Nodal Agency for organizing IISF 2021 was the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research, an autonomous institute under the MoES.
  • Theme 2021: ‘AzadiKaAmritMahotsav’ – celebrating Creativity, Science, Technology, and Innovation for a prosperous India.

PFC signed agreement with GreenCell Mobility for deployment of 350 electric buses in Uttar Pradesh

  • Power Finance Corporation (PFC), a Maharatna company signed an agreement with GreenCell Mobility (e-mobility platform supported by Govt of India and UK), to lend INR 275 crore for deployment of 350 electric buses across nine cities of Uttar Pradesh.
  • The initiative is part of the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles (FAME)-II scheme. The buses will be deployed in key cities of UP including Agra, Meerut, Aligarh, Bareilly, Ghaziabad & Mathura.
  • Government of India has launched FAME-II scheme with an allocation of INR 3500 crore for promotion of adoption of electric buses.

Rajasthan signed MoU with Rays Power Infra to generate 500 MW of green electricity

  • Rajasthan government has signed an MoU with Rays Power Infra to build an avant-garde PV Photovoltaic (PV) Power Station (commonly called solar power plant) and to generate 500 MW of green electricity.
  • This MoU is an instrumental step towards an eco-friendly future. The MoU was finalized during the ongoing Dubai Expo, to reduce traditional electricity consumption derived from non-renewable sources.
  • Rays Power has already started constructing 500 MW of solar energy commissioning in the next 9 months to offset the power requirements of 50 percent for corporate customers and 50 percent for utility projects.
  • Out of this 500 MW, India develops 220MW and the remaining 280 MW will be developed at Rays Power’s international portfolio.

Meta expanded partnership with CBSE to provide a curriculum on digital safety and online well-being and AR

  • Meta (formerly Facebook) is set to expand its partnership with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to provide a curriculum on digital safety and online well-being and Augmented Reality (AR) for around 1 crore college students and 10 lakh educators across India over the next 3 years.
  • This was announced by Mark Zuckerberg, Founder and CEO of Meta at Meta’s Fuel for India 2021. This is in line with the vision of the Indian government to Universalize Education.
  • In line with National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, meta and CBSE will collaborate on content curation and development of curriculum integrating immersive technologies, AR and Virtual Reality (VR).

  • India & Uzbekistan decided to promote cooperation & intensify interregional cooperation, especially between Andijan (Uzbekistan) and Gujarat (India).
  • The direct interaction for the implementation of joint projects in the investment, trade and cultural-humanitarian spheres will be established between Uzbekistan’s Fergana region and Haryana, the cities of Bukhara and Hyderabad, and also between Tashkent and New Delhi.

Cabinet approved incentive scheme for promotion of RuPay Debit Cards and low-value BHIM-UPI transactions

  • Union Cabinet has approved an incentive scheme to promote RuPay Debit cards and low-value (upto Rs. 2,000) BHIM-UPI transactions (Person-to-Merchant (P2M)] in India.
  • With this, Digital Modes of Payment will become accessible to unbanked and marginalized populations outside the formal banking-financial system.
  • The financial outlay for one year: 1,300 crores (for 1 year i.e., FY22).

Cabinet approved ₹76,000 crore scheme to boost semiconductor manufacturing

  • Union Cabinet approved a Rs 76,000-crore production linked incentive (PLI) scheme for boosting semiconductor and display manufacturing in India.
  • With this, the total amount of production linked incentive (PLI) announced for the electronics sector increase to Rs 2.30 lakh crore.
  • This scheme was approved in order to position India as a global hub for hi-tech production, as well as to attract large chip makers. It would also strengthen India’s ambitions to be self-reliant in electronics manufacturing and bring huge investments.
  • The government will also set up an independent ‘India Semiconductor Mission (ISM)’, for driving the long-term strategies to develop a sustainable semiconductors and display ecosystem in India.

  • Paytm launched the first of its kind Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered Educational Technology (EdTech) platform named, ‘Paytm Wealth academy’ for traders and investors.
  • The educational platform will offer courses and webinars on trading and financial concepts according to the needs of individuals.
  • Paytm Wealth Academy will be initially available on the Paytm Money app, owned by Paytm’s wholly-owned subsidiary Paytm Money, to selected users (soon to every user).

WPI inflation at record high; surges to 14.23% in November

  • Producers’ inflation based on the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) has reached an all-time high in the current series at 23 percent in November from 12.54 percent in October on a year-on-year basis.
  • Wholesale Price-based Index (WPI) inflation base year is 2011-12. Also, the spike is highest since April 2005.
  • This is the eighth successive month of double digits WPI (mainly due to the hardening of prices of mineral oils, basic metals, crude petroleum, and natural gas).

Gen MM Naravane appointed as Chairman of Chiefs of Staff Committee

  • The Chief of Army Staff, General Manoj Mukund Naravane, was appointed as the chairman of the Chiefs of Staff Committee (CoSC).
  • The CoSC comprises the chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force. He succeeded General Bipin Rawat, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) passed away in an accident in Tamil Nadu.
  • MM Naravane is the Senior most of the Chiefs of all Three Armed forces – Army, Navy & Air Force. MM Naravane took over as the 27th Chief of the Army Staff in 2019, previously served as Vice Chief of the Army and prior to that headed the Eastern Command of the Army which takes care of India’s border with China.

  • Aditya Birla Group’s chairman, Kumar Mangalam Birla received the Global Entrepreneur of the Year Award- Business Transformation from The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) based out of Silicon Valley on Thursday.
  • Birla is the first Indian Industrialist to receive the award for global entrepreneurship along with top global business leaders Satya Nadella, Elon Musk, and Jeff Bezos.

F1 champion Lewis Hamilton received knighthood

  • Seven times Formula One (F1) champion Lewis Carl Davidson Hamilton has received “knighthood” for services to motorsport. Hamilton is the fourth F1 driver to be knighted.
  • Before him, late Australian Jack Brabham, Stirling Moss and triple champion Jackie Stewart have been knighted. Lewis Hamilton holds the record for most race wins with 103.
  • A knighthood is a title that is conferred on a person by a British king or queen for their high achievement and services to their country within their industry.
  • Other sportsmen who have received a knighthood include: Cycling’s Tour de France winner Bradley Wiggins, Olympic 5,000 & 10,000 metres gold medallist Mo Farah, Two times Wimbledon champion Andy Murray and, England cricketer Alastair Cook.

BCCI formed committee for differently-abled cricketers

  • The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has formed a committee for the differently-abled cricketers of the country.
  • On the basis of the recommendation of the Justice Lodha committee, a board of three former disabled cricketers was being awaited for the last several years. The Proposal was approved by BCCI headed by president Sourav Ganguly & secretary Jay Shah.
  • BCCI secretary Jay Shah launched the second edition of the HAP Cup, the biggest tournament for the physically challenged in India.
