  • Haryana’s Minister of State for Sports and Youth Affairs Sandeep Singh launched ‘Khel Nursery Scheme 2022-23’ to promote sports in the state.
  • The scheme promotes sports nurseries that will be started in government, private educational institutions and private sports institutions.
  • The sports nurseries are being opened for the sports included in the Olympic, Asian and Commonwealth Games.

Centre granted ‘in-principle’ approval for 6 Nuclear Reactors at Jaitapur, Maharashtra

Cabinet cleared proposal to raise women’s marriage age from 18 to 21 years

  • Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given its nod for proposal to bring uniformity in the minimum age of marriage for men and women, thereby, increasing the legal age of marriage of women from 18 to 21 years. The legal age to get married for men is 21.
  • In this regard, a Bill will be introduced to amend the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act (PCMA), 2006, Special Marriage Act, 1954 and personal laws such as the Hindu Marriage Act 1955 in the ongoing winter session of Parliament (November 29- December 23, 2021).

Rural Development Minister launched Management Information System portal named ‘Vikas Portal’ for rankings of States/UTs in Land Acquisition Projects

  • On the lines of Central Government’s Gati Shakti Mission, Union Minister Giriraj Singh, Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) launched Management Information System (MIS) portal namely ‘Vikas Portal’ for rankings of States/Union Territories (UTs) in Land Acquisition Projects under RFCTLARR Act, 2013.
  • It is developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) team of Department of Land Resources (DoLR), MoRD with zero cost.
  • RFCTLARR is an acronym for Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement.
  • In this regard, awards will be conferred upon top 3 States and top 3 districts by capturing the data, figures, and speed of the development in the country. It will promote healthy competition among States/UTs.

India & Vietnam signed agreement to establish partnership in Digital Media and in the field of IT

  • Government of India signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with Government of Vietnam, to enable collaboration in the field of digital media and strengthen the partnership between India and Vietnam.
  • The LoI anticipates sharing of information and experience in establishing policies and regulatory frameworks on digital media and social networks.
  • India and Vietnam also signed agreement for cooperation in the field of Information Technology (IT).
  • Ministers signed an agreement to extend India- Vietnam MoU on cooperation in Information Technology. The MoU seeks to foster active cooperation and exchange between Governments, private entities & institutions involved in enhancing capacity building and other public & private organizations from both sides in the field of ICT.

RBI allowed scheduled payments banks, SFBs as Agency Bank to conduct Govt Business

  • Reserve Bank of India (RBI), in consultation with the Department of Financial Services (DFS), the Ministry of Finance, has decided to make the Scheduled payments banks and scheduled small finance banks (SFBs) eligible to conduct Government agency business.
  • On May 10, 2021, RBI, revised the existing guidelines on ‘Appointment of Scheduled Private Sector Banks as Agency Banks of RBI’ for authorising Scheduled Private Sector Banks as agency banks of RBI for conducting govt business (Central and/or State).
  • Thus, any payment bank or small finance bank which intends to undertake govt agency business could be appointed as an agent of RBI only upon execution of an agreement with RBI and also in compliance with the regulatory framework prescribed for those banks.

RBI imposed Rs 1.8 crores and 30 lakh penalty on PNB and ICICI Bank

  • Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a penalty of Rs 1.8 crores on Punjab National Bank (PNB), while ICICI Bank has been fined Rs 30 lakh for deficiencies in regulatory compliances.
  • According to a statement issued by the central bank, PNB was found guilty of contravening provisions of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949, related to pledge of shares by it.

  • He will replace Seon Seob Kim (SS Kim), who will lead the Global Operations Division in Hyundai headquarters in Seoul, South Korea.

PM Modi received Bhutan’s highest civilian award

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred Bhutan’s highest civilian award, Ngadag Pel gi Khorlo also known as Order of the Dragon King (Druk Gyalpo), on the occasion of Bhutan’s 114th National Day (17th December 2021).
  • PM Modi becomes the first foreigner to receive the coveted award. The honour comes as an appreciation for India’s friendly approach to Bhutan under PM Modi’s governance.
  • King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck conferred the award upon PM Modi. The announcement was made by Bhutan’s Prime Minister Lotay Tshering.

  • Indian shooter Avani Lekhara, who has created history by winning India’s first Gold medal in Shooting at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, won the “Best Female Debut” honour at the 2021 Paralympic Sport Awards.
  • The Awards were announced by the International Paralympic Committee.
  • She became the 1st Indian woman to win 2 Paralympic medals in a single edition of the Paralympic Games. India won an unprecedented 19 medals at the Paralympic Games including 5 Gold, 8 Silver & 6 Bronze.


HAL signed Rs 2,400 crores contract with BEL for 83 LCA Tejas Mk1A fighters

  • Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) signed a Rs 2,400 crores contract with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for development and supply of 20 types of systems for 83 LCA (Light Combat Aircraft) Tejas Mk1A fighter aircraft programme.
  • The duration of the contract is 5 years i.e., from 2023 to 2028. Notably, this is HAL’s biggest order on any Indian company thus boosting the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ campaign.
  • The order for supply of these systems will be executed by two units of BEL at Bengaluru (Karnataka), and Panchkula (Haryana).

Ashok Leyland partnered with CVRDE, a DRDO arm to develop combat vehicle engines
