Cyclonic Storm ‘Gulab’ hit Odisha and AP
- The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Odisha and Andhra Pradesh after the ‘Cyclone Gulab’ made landfall over Northwest and adjoining West-central Bay of Bengal on 26th Sept.
- During the landfall, the wind speed could hover between 90 kmph and 100 kmph. Barring that period, the velocity on Sunday is expected to be limited to 70 kmph. Four-five districts will receive heavy rainfall.

PM Modi to address 76th session UNGA in New York
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on September 25, 2021.
- PM Modi reached New York after holding his first bilateral meeting with US President Joe Biden on September 24. He also attended his first in-person Quad summit, hosted by Joe Biden.
- Theme for General Debate for year 2021 is “Building Resilience through hope to recover from Covid-19, rebuild sustainably, respond to the needs of the planet, respect the rights of people, and revitalise the United Nations”.

Gordon Brown appointed WHO Ambassador for Global Health Financing
- The WHO announced the appointment of The Rt Hon Gordon Brown, former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, as WHO Ambassador for Global Health Financing.
- He is widely credited with preventing a second Great Depression through his stewardship of the 2009 London G20 summit. He mobilized world leaders to commit an additional $1.1 trillion to restore credit, growth and jobs.
Debabrata Mukherjee elected chairman of Audit Bureau of Circulations
- Debabrata Mukherjee, who is currently serving as Chief Marketing Officer at the United Breweries Group, has been elected as the chairman of Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) for the year 2021-2022 on 24th Sept.
- Debabrata Mukherjee is responsible for managing local and global brands like Kingfisher, Ultra, Heineken and Amstel. He has a wide range of professional experience in general management, marketing and sales operations, business strategy and innovation.

Defence
Defence ministry places order for 118 Arjun Mk-1A tanks
- Ministry of Defence will procure 118 Main Battle Tanks, MBTs Arjun Mk-1A for the Indian Army. The order was worth Rs 7,523 crore with Heavy Vehicles Factory, Avadi to sharpen the army’s combat edge.
- It will support the Make in India initiative in the defence sector and it will help in achieving the goal of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
- Arjun Tank has been part of the Indian Army for the last 15 years. It has been designed and developed by Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE). It will be manufactured at the government’s Heavy Vehicles Factory in Chennai.
India Army to organise ‘Bijoya Sanskritik Mahotsav’ in Kolkata
- Indian Army will organize “Bijoya Sanskritik Mahotsav” from 26 to 29 September in Kolkata. This Mahotsav will be observed to mark the golden jubilee of the India-Pak war 1971.
- Various cultural programs including a film screening, theatre plays, musical concerts, and band performances will be conducted during this event.

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak launches space start-up Privateer
- Apple’s co-creator Steve Wozniak has launched a new space start-up called Privateer Space, bringing potential competition to a field dominated by billionaires Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and Richard Branson.
- Privateer will be represented at the Advanced Maui Optical and Space Surveillance Technologies Conference, scheduled to run from September 14-17 in Hawaii.

Obituary
Feminist activist, poet and author Kamla Bhasin passes away at 75
- Eminent women’s rights activist, poet and author Kamla Bhasin passed away on September 25. She was 75. This is a big setback for the women’s movement in India and the South Asian region.
- Kamla is known for founding Sangat – A Feminist Network, in 2002 to work with disadvantaged women from rural and tribal communities by means of plays, songs, art etc. She also wrote many books on gender theory and feminism – such as Understanding Gender, What is Patriarchy – that have been translated into over 30 languages.
