MoHUAM launched Swachh Toycathon

  • Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry has launched Swachh Toycathon. It is a unique competition that involves making toys from waste.
  • The competition will be hosted on MyGov’s Innovative India portal. The knowledge partner for the initiative is the Center for Creative Learning, IIT Gandhinagar.
  • The competition will be open to individuals and groups who desire to bring and support new ideas and creativity. Manoj Joshi, the Housing and Urban Affairs secretary said that used toys should be collected, redeveloped, and resold. He said this should turn into a social movement as it is a step towards environmentally friendly toys.

Jitendra Singh announces ‘One Week One Lab’ campaign

  • Union Minister Jitendra Singh has announced the ‘One Week One Lab’ theme-based campaign to showcase technological breakthroughs and innovations.
  • The campaign will be held in each of the 37 Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) labs & institutes spread across the country.
  • He announced it while addressing the 1st-ever CSIR Leadership Meet in New Delhi.
  • The laboratories came together during the COVID pandemic last year. They developed several technologies that helped India’s fight against COVID.
  • CSIR breakthroughs in areas like Drone, Heliborne technology, state of the art Sewage cleaning machines, Aroma Mission has opened up huge opportunities for developing meaningful and equal stake partnership among Research, Academia and Industry.

President Murmu inaugurated HAL’s Cryogenic Engines Manufacturing Facility

  • President Droupadi Murmu has inaugurated the Integrated Cryogenic Engines Manufacturing Facility of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in Bengaluru.
  • The Cryogenic engines are used by ISRO for its satellite launch operations.
  • The President has also laid the foundation stone of the South Zonal Institute of Virology virtually at HAL.
  • She has also inaugurated the St. Joseph University and attended a Civic reception hosted by the State Government in her honour.
  • The President hailed the role of the ISRO and the HAL in making India Atma Nirbhar. She called upon the scientific fraternity to utilise Amrit Kaal to make India a developed nation by 2047, when the country celebrates its cenetnary of the Independence.

  • The 20th Meeting of Prosecutors General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Member States has held in Astana, Kazakhstan.
  • Learned Solicitor General of India, Department of Legal Affairs Tushar Mehta, and Additional Secretary, Department of Legal Affairs Dr. Anju Rathi Rana attended the meeting from the Indian side.
  • Earlier on 16 Sept 2022, PM Modi had attended the 22nd Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

S&P Global projected India’s FY23 GDP growth at 7.3%

  • S&P Global has projected India’s FY23 GDP growth at 7.3% and estimated inflation to fall to 5% in the next fiscal.
  • Inflation is likely to remain above the upper tolerance limit of 6 percent till the end of 2022.
  • India’s growth outlook at 7.3 percent for the fiscal year 2022-2023 and 6.5 percent for the next fiscal year. The data was given in S&P’s Economic Outlook for Asia Pacific.
  • The Reserve Bank expects the Indian economy to grow 7.2 percent in the current fiscal (2022-23).

INS Sunayna participated in Operation Southern Readiness

  • INS Sunayna entered Port Victoria Seychelles to participate in the annual training exercise Operation Southern Readiness of Combined Maritime Forces (CMF).
  • The joint training exercise is being attended by representative delegations from USA, Italy, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and ship participation from UK, Spain & India.
  • This marks the first participation of an Indian Navy ship in the Combined Maritime Forces exercise.
  • It will participate in the annual training exercise Operation Southern Readiness of the CMF.

Veteran Congress leader Aryadan Muhammed passed away

  • Former Kerala minister and senior Congress leader Aryadan Muhammed has passed away at the age of 87 in Kozhikode, Kerala.
  • He has won the Nilambur seat (Malappuram district) of Kerala legislative assembly in 1977.
  • He was also a minister in the EK Nayanar cabinet when he was part of the Left Front Group A in 1980.
  • He also held the ministerial post in the AK Antony cabinet and Oommen Chandy cabinet.
