India ranked at 10th position in ITU’s Global Cybersecurity Index 2020, US tops

• India has been ranked as the 10th best country in the world in the Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI) 2020, released by International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
• The GCI 2020 is the fourth edition of the annual index and ranked 194 countries. The GCI measures the commitment of countries to cybersecurity at a global level.

ICICI Bank launches a comprehensive banking solution for doctors

• ICICI Bank announced the launch of the country’s most comprehensive banking solutions for medical doctors. Called ‘Salute Doctors’, it provides customized banking as well as value-added services for every doctor, beginning from a medical student to a senior medical consultant to an owner of a hospital or a clinic.
• Mr Pranav Mishra, Head- Liabilities, ICICI Bank said,  “On National Doctor’s Day, we have launched ‘Salute Doctors’ banking solutions to express gratitude and salute our lifesavers for their service and sacrifice.

World Bank approves $500 million loan to support India’s informal working class amid pandemic

• World Bank on 1 July said it has approved a USD 500 million (about Rs 3,717.28 crore) loan programme to support India’s informal working class to overcome the current pandemic distress.
• The loan will create greater flexibility for states to cope with the ongoing pandemic, future climate and disaster shocks.
• Of the USD 500 million commitment, USD 112.50 million will be financed by its concessionary lending arm International Development Association and USD 387.50 million will be a loan from International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD).

• $100 million- for CHIRAAG (Chhattisgarh Inclusive Rural and Accelerated Agriculture Growth)
• $68 million- improve quality of school education in Nagaland
• $500 million- help boost India’s MSME sector
• $32 million-Improving healthcare services in Mizoram
• $250 Million: Initiatives of SALT Programme in AP

India records current account surplus of 0.9% in FY21

• According to the data released by the Reserve Bank of India, India reported a current account surplus of 0.9% of GDP in FY 21. In FY 20 there was a current account deficit of 0.9%.
• The reason for the Current Account Surplus in FY21 is a sharp contraction in the trade deficit to US$ 102.2 billion from US$ 157.5 billion in 2019-20. India has seen a Current account surplus for the first time in 17 years.

Indian-origin American Abhimanyu Mishra becomes youngest ever chess Grandmaster

• Indian-origin American Abhimanyu Mishra has become the youngest-ever chess Grandmaster in the world.
• At 12 years, four months and 25 days, he obliterated the long-standing record held by Sergey Karjakin, who was 12 years and seven months old when he attained the title.

2 July: World UFO Day

• World UFO Day is celebrated every year to spread awareness about Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs). The objective of the day is to acknowledge the existence of UFOs.
• The first World UFO Day was celebrated in 2001 by UFO researcher Haktan Akdogan. As mentioned above, the day was earlier celebrated on two days: 24 June and 2 July.

• World Sports Journalists Day is observed globally on 2nd July every year.
• The day aims to acknowledge the work of sports journalists & to encourage them to do better at their work. Sports journalists help millions of people in the world to receive information on various sports.

1 July: Goods and Services Tax (GST) Day

• India marks the fourth anniversary of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on Thursday, July 1, 2021. The date 1st July has been designated by the Central Government as ‘GST Day’, which is celebrated every year to mark the roll-out of the historic tax reform.
• On completing 4 years of GST, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman mentioned the journey of GST.
