Museum dedicated to former Prime Ministers of India will be inaugurated in Delhi

  • A museum of all former Prime Ministers, Pradhan Mantri Sangrahalaya (the Museum of Prime Ministers), has been built at Teen Murti Estate, in Delhi.
  • The Rs. 270 crore project will be inaugurated on April 14, 2022, at the Teen Murti Bhavan complex which was the residence of ex-PM Jawaharlal Nehru.
  • The Museum will showcase the life, times and contribution of all 14 Prime Ministers of India so far, except for the collections and works on Jawaharlal Nehru, who has a separate Nehru Memorial Museum, which was also his residence.
  • The PMs Museum project was approved in 2018, and the deadline for its completion was October 2020 but faced delays due to pandemic-related lockdowns, as well as civil works and content-curation issues.

Meghalaya’s Living Root Bridges included in UNESCO’s tentative list of World Heritage Sites

  • ‘Jingkieng Jri or Living Root Bridge’, found in over 70 villages in Meghalaya highlighting the socio-cultural, social and botanical links among people and nature, have been included in the tentative list of World Heritage Sites of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).
  • Villagers grow the living root-bridges by training the ‘ficus elastica’ tree on both sides of water bodies over a period of about 10 to 15 years where the roots form the bridge.
  • At present, there are about 100 known living root bridges spread across 72 villages in the state.
  • Villagers, (especially Khasi and Jaintia tribal communities) build and maintain these bridges from the past for more than 600 years.
  • The Geoglyphs of Konkan region of Maharashra, Sri Veerabhadra Temple and Monolithic Bull (Nandi) at Lepakshi of Andhra Pradesh have made it to the Tentative list of UNESCO world heritage sites in 2022.

Government set the target to create 220 new airports by 2025

  • Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced that the Government of India has set a target of building 220 new airports by 2025, citing the Civil Aviation industry as a critical component of India’s economy.
  • “Cargo flights for perishable food items will be boosted by 30% in the next few years, with 133 new flights,” Scindia stated. The government intends to build 33 new domestic freight ports, 15 new pilot training schools, more jobs, and a stronger focus on the drone industry.
  • The Airports Authority of India(AAI) and the private sector will invest Rs 1 lakh crore in the next 2-3 years to develop aviation infrastructure. AAI plans to create three new greenfield airports in the country: Hollongi, Hirasar, and Dholera, as well as 42 brownfield airports.
  • In the greenfield area, the private sector will invest Rs 30,664 crore. At Mopa, Navi Mumbai, Jewar, and Bhogapuram, four private-sector airports will be created.
  • Brownfield airports would get a total investment of Rs 34,000 crore, with seven new airports being built on brownfield in Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Mangalore, Guwahati, and Ahmedabad.

RBI governor laid foundation stone of Learning and Development Centre of BRBNMPL in Mysuru

  • Governor of Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Shaktikanta Das has laid the foundation stone for the establishment of a Learning and Development Centre (LDC) of the Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Private Limited (BRBNMPL) in Mysuru, Karnataka.
  • LDC is being established with active collaboration from Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India Limited (SPMCIL) and Bank Note Paper Mill India Private Limited (BNPMIPL). Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Private Limited (BRBNMPL) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of RBI.
  • LDC will act as a forum for robust knowledge dissemination, thus ensuring that the best practices, experiences, and innovations are shared efficiently in a congenial environment to ensure uniformity in banknote production, quality and supply.

Hurun Global U40 Self-Made Billionaires 2022: India ranked 4th; USA topped

  • Hurun Research Institute has released the Hurun Global Forty and Under Self-Made Billionaires 2022, which ranks the self-made billionaires in the world (in terms of US dollars) aged forty years and under.
  • The Hurun Report 2022 lists 87 Self-Made Billionaires in the world aged 40 and under, which is up by 8 from last year. The USA leads the list with 37 self-made billionaires. China is second with 25 billionaires, followed by the United Kingdom (8), India (6) and Sweden (3) respectively in the top five.
  • Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is the world’s richest self-made billionaire aged 40 and under with a total wealth of $76 billion. He is followed by ByteDance CEO Zhang Yiming, FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried, Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky, and Facebook co-founder Dustin Moskovitz,
  • 20 of the Hurun Global U40 are born and brought up in countries different to where they live today. These immigrant billionaires chose the USA (8), UK (7) and UAE (2)to live in today, and came originally from Russia mostly, followed by China, India and Ireland.

ICRA projected India’s GDP growth forecast at 7.2% in FY23

  • Rating agency ICRA has lowered the growth forecast for India’s GDP in 2022-23 (FY23) to 7.2%. Earlier this rate was 8%.
  • The ICRA Ltd. has projected the GDP growth forecast for 2021-22 (FY22) at 8.5%, lower than the official advance estimate from the National Statistical Office of 8.9%.
  • The reason for the cut in GDP forecast is the Russia-Ukraine conflict, which increases commodity prices and the lockdown in China.

ICICI & HDFC Bank will acquire 15% stake in IDRCL 

  • ICICI Bank HDFC Bank signed an investment agreement for a 15% stake in India Debt Resolution Company Ltd (IDRCL). The IDRCL was established to manage stressed assets in India. 
  • The approval for the deal was given by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance. IDRCL works in tandem with the National Asset Reconstruction Company Ltd (NARCL) to clean up bad loans.
  • The investment would consist of a total cash consideration of upto 7.5 crore in multiple equity tranches. In March 2022, the ICICI bank also signed an agreement to acquire a 5% stake in National Asset Reconstruction Company Limited (NARCL).
  • HDFC Bank will also acquire a 15% equity stake in IDRCL for Rs. 7.50 crore. The first tranche of equity investment for Rs 3 crore is expected to be complete by 31 March 2022. The investment will be in multiple tranches.

  • CS Rajan, Managing Director, IL&FS has been appointed as Chairman and Managing Director for six months with effect from April 3 by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
  • Crisis-hit Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services Ltd (IL&FS) has resolved nearly 55% of the group’s outstanding debt over the last three-and-a-half years. Among others, the company sold its iconic headquarters at Bandra Kurla Complex for ₹1,080 crore to reduce debt.

  • Indian-AmericanRaj Subramaniam has been namedthe new CEO of FedEx, the world’s largest courier service corporation.
  • He is set to replace the founder of FedEx, Frederick W Smith. Currently, Subramaniam is serving as President and Chief Operating Officer of FedEx.
  • Subramaniam joined FedEx in 1991 and was elevated to the Board of Directors in 2020. Originally, he is from Trivandrum, Kerala and studied chemical engineering at IIT Bombay.

  • Verma is the youngest female cricketer to have played for India.

  • The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind has presented the 3rd National Water Awards in New Delhi.
  • National Water Awards is given for exemplary work in the field of water resource management. The first National Water Award was launched in 2018, by the Jal Shakti Ministry.
  • A total of 57 National Water Awards for 2022 have been conferred to states, organizations and others in 11 different categories.
  • In the Best State category, Uttar Pradesh has been awarded first prize, followed by Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu.

  • West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar dedicated to the nation supercomputer PARAM Shakti which will accelerate research and development activities in IIT Kharagpur in West Bengal.
  • A supercomputer is a very fast computer used in advanced scientific applications. Petascale computing refers to computing systems capable of calculating at least 10^15 floating-point operations per second (1 petaFLOPS).
  • PARAM Shakti was developed under the National Supercomputing Mission – a joint initiative of the ministry of electronics and information technology and the department of science and technology.
  • In March 2019, IIT Kharagpur and the Centre for Development in Advanced Computing (CDAC) signed an MoU to establish PARAM Shakti, the state-of-the-art Supercomputing Facility with 17680 Central Processing Unit (CPU) cores along with 44 Graphics processing unit (GPUs).

Obituary

Former CM of Sikkim B.B. Gurung passed away 

  • 3rd Chief Minister of Sikkim Bhim Bahadur Gurung has passed away at his residence in Lumsui in Gangtok, Sikkim.
  • B. Gurung served as a teacher and a staff reporter in a Calcutta (Kolkata)-based newspaper the Amrita Bazar Patrika and he also edited the first news-based Nepali Journal of Sikkim, called Kanchenjunga.
  • He started his political career with Sikkim Rajya Congress Party in 1947 and was later appointed as the General Secretary in 1958.
  • He served as the 3rd CM of Sikkim from 11 May to 24 May 1984, the shortest term in the history of Sikkim. Between 2014 and 2015 he served as the political advisor to the CM of Sikkim.
